And yes it horrifically backfired in real life too. Isn’t it funny how Japan made an alliance in 1902, their first ever recognition as a “country” and they dedicated themselves to learning about Britain and vice versa. And in 1910 they’ve become imperialistic, colonising Korea. Obviously they studied Britain a little too hard

"Doggerbank" refers to an ancient country/area dating back thousands of years when the UK was still connected by land to the rest of Europe. A large landmass connected Southeast UK to what is now the Northernmost tip of France, Netherlands, Belgium, and Northwest Germany. This massive area was called doggerland. After ice caps melting and possibly a big tsunami, most of doggerland was gone, except for a tiny bit of the mountainous area, which became and island disconnected from the UK and the rest of Europe. Eventually, after thousands of years and rising sea levels Doggerland, now Doggerbank, flooded completely. It is suspected that inhabitants of the area fled to England or France, though some probably stuck it out till the end.
I'm not sure why this mod has Doggerbank where the UK is, but it's close enough.
I believe you’re thinking of doggerland. Doggerbank still exists and is the water between Netherlands and England. That’s why it’s next to the Tyne, which is Newcastle in England.

If you're curious about the ocean tile names, they're historically based:
Dogger Bank is a realworld region, its the shoals in the southern part of the North Sea, so its name is pretty much spot-on.
Tyne (pronounced similar to time) is the name of a great river that flows through Northern England (Newcastle's full name is "Newcastle upon Tyne" and the region is called "Tyne and Wear" after the two rivers).
Firth of Forth is the name for the large bay area next to Edinburgh. "Firth" is the Scottish term for a coastal area along the east coast, and "Forth" is the river that flows from the highlands to the sea through said firth.
Firth of Moray is the firth north of Scotland that looks like someone took a giant bite out of the land.

I like this mod. Usually, these geographical altering mods leave a huge imprint on where they took a country and moved it, but this one looks flawless.

The Firth of Forth and Firth of Moray are estuaries in Scotland. Where the river Moray and river Forth meet the sea. Tyne (T-eye-n) is an estuary near Newcastle.
One of the things that hindered the British here is the fact that everything around them was unknown, they had to develop several levels of technology in order to pick the exploration focus and start discovering their surroundings. If they had started with a full map of the region known to them their expansion would have begun much sooner.

I never actually realized that EU4 has relatively accurate scale. The isles should technically be a little bit smaller, but it’s accurate nonetheless. Japan is larger than any European country, besides the Scandinavians and Russia

Try the extended timeline mod. It’s similar to a mega campaign but it’s all in eu4 so don’t have to worry about converting
