As others have commented here, the screws are probably JIS heads being Japanese, which is why a European Philips screwdriver doesn't fit perfectly. Great video, very helpful. Many thanks! I made certain of the correct screwdriver before tackling the first pair of screws (try first to ensure a snug fit!). PH0 worked a treat - took it very slow at the start, to break the threadlock, then they came away without any problem. Fixings for the plastic surround mostly crumbled when removing those screws, but I shouldn't be surprised, as our Leaf is now in its 10th year, so they have survived a lot of summers. New screen now in and working fine. 👍😀
Thank you for another great video. It’s great to have someone showing the different aspects of electric vehicles. My next electric vehicle will be a Nissan eNV200 with a campervan conversion by Hertford Campers.
Thank you for the video, it helped me to change the touch screen and it's working! The only issue was the flap that holds the ribbon cable popped out, took me an hour to figure out how to put it back 😅. I wonder how long this will last, and if I should buy another one as a backup... thanks again 👍 regards, Andras
One thing with screwdrivers - the fit for a Philips is very important but so is the handle. A handle that fits your hand well will make the job a lot easier - the trouble with those skinny handles is you can't get much leverage on them especially in awkward positions like that one. I'd be swearing a lot. Well done.
Maybe a soldering iron would work for heating up the screw without accidentally melting the ribbon cable? You can get USB-C powered ones these days. Thanks for the video. My Leaf was never this bad but I found the right hand side had 'shifted' inwards so I had to tap slightly to the left of the back button to get it to register.
When the screen fails it usually happens gradually. Mine has shifted to the right but now has failed completely on the right side. Got a replacement now..
2:30 it's more likely they are JIS screws being a japanese company. having rounded a lot of screws in the last year a good jis driver is a must for jobs like this.
I bought a new set of multi head screwdrivers from Aldi for the job and the screws weren't a problem. Just fiddly to access. Make sure the head unit does not retract after removing the head unit. I physically obstructed it so this couldn't happen. Not sure what you'd do if it did. Also, my digitiser didn't work so I'll have to order another one. I used the link from a Jonathan Porter field video a while back. Will try the link in this video next. The ribbon cables are the worst bit of the job IMO. Very fiddly and easy to put back incorrectly.
@@GoGreenAutos PH0 worked fine for me - the Aldi screwdriver kit came with two slightly different shape of Ph0 head for that fitting and one worked with the tiny screws on the underside of the head unit well, while the other was good for the larger head screws.
@@GoGreenAutos on closer inspection it was a lump of paper tissue.. no idea why. Unfortunately the whole head unit is kaputt now though. Really wish I hadn't bothered!
Replaced screen with aftermarket one I bought online. I took unit out of car to make access easier. But when I powered it up afterwards... nothing. Screen is black, and the tilt button doesn't work. The screen tilted back up to vertical when I plugged the cables in on the back, so now I can't take the screen off again. Any ideas?☹
@@GoGreenAutos You're right! I managed to pry the screen open and redid the ribbon connection on the back and hey presto! The screen is at 90 degrees to where it should be! The pins on the screen/cable are in the wrong place. Now I have to either find a way to reorder them or find an adapter. Yuk.

great comprehensive run through this tricky job thanks this is the best demo of this cheap but very effective repair to a common leaf screen problem
Thanks :-)

Thank you Andras. So kind of you. I'm glad the video helped.
When I did on my LEAF 24 I removed the whole unit. Made the job easier. Also buy good quality screwdrivers.
I will try that next time. I guess you pull off the whole black surround with the air vents and switches?

As someone else has pointed out, the screws are probably a JIS head, which is slightly different to Philips.

Good point. I didn't think of that.
Do a calibration as per my previous video ruclips.net/video/xvFwdS_mRRc/видео.html

You might need to invest in a mini tripod for the camera action so you can use 2 hands :)

Yes, I'm sure you're correct. I only learned about this JIS type recently after watching a RUclips video.

hi there , looking for replacement screen touch for Nissan leaf 2015 , is it exactly same on the link you uploaded ,, thanks for your help
Yes. All the details are in the video description.
i would use masking tape and cover the heater controls, to avoid scratching with the screwdriver whilst swearing profusely at those fiddly screws :)
Do you have a link to the source of the replacement touchscreen please ?
Its all in the video description
When i took my unit apart there was a lump of blutak holding the digitiser in place. Someone had been there before!
Not sure why blutack was needed as it all clamps together ok.

Sounds like your ribbon cable isn't in properly or making contact.

@@clivechafer9651what do you mean? Did you manage to connect the screen again?
You can manually pull the screen back to flat. Same happened to me.
Same here. Changed screen but now it is black and tilt button does not work.
