I purchased EXACTLY the same item on ebay. Arrived today and it worked first time!
I did note that the 12 Volt +ve pin on the adapter has a slightly smaller diameter than a normal 5.5x2.1mm socket. Therefore the 12 Volt +ve pin may not be making connection.
Suggest you make sure you use an male plug that has a 'pinching' connection on the 12 Volt pin - not just a 'sliding' fit as this type may not make proper connection. 🙂

In Device Manager, under "Disk drives", do you see JMicron Tech SCSI Disk Device?

You need 12V and 5V. Check output for said voltages on connector to hard drive.

Your problem is you don't make a live connection to a hard drive without the risk of frying your hard drive.

Did you use a POWERED USB hub? Direct connection of the adaptor to a computer USB may not be able to supply enough current at 5 Volts.

hard drives typically require a 12V power connection, which is not provided by the USB port that had only 5v

OMG thank you for your review!!! I also has this adapter with 2Amps power supply, when I plug the adapter to my laptop, the mouse cursor suddenly very hard to move, I think there is something wrong with this adapter, so I disconnect the sata to usb adapter quickly.. thankfully this garbage doesn't fire my laptop

Yeah, but first up you need to check the manual each one of them, so that you will know if that is compatible to 2.5 or 3.5, Because you just test them without having known the compatibility LoL…🥴

Maybe you should use it directly to your pc, not using the extension cable ...

No first plug the adapter to sata 3.5 then plug the power .then plug the USB to pc. I just did that today on my 2t hdd 3.5 and worked pretty well lhamdullab
