Surprised Opinel knives are known around the world, here in France they're usually used by "grandpa the farmer " or by gypsies , that's why my EDC knive is a number 12 for Years . I really like the way you customise yours. Great job . French should be proud for three little but very useful things : Opinel and Bic lighters and pens 😄
I do alot of my own blade work and make lot of my own stuff in general and i gotta say you do some gorgeous work with your projects brother you make some of the nicest pieces ive seen
Brilliant little blades on Opinel knives, I tried a mate's Opinel saw but wasn't particularly impressed lol I've had Opinel knives since I was a kid skinning rabbits I hunted and I've never been let down by them yet.
Step One survival the first one I bought myself cost about 10gbp heh heh heh, bought it same time and place I got my 1022 that cost me 150gbp, decided I had a spanking new rifle may as well get a new blade to go with it :)
Step One survival great work brother . looks good man really diggin the knife gonna look into buying one...... I didn't like it when i first saw it but its growin on me thanks again for the video an God bless
Nice idea, might be easier with a rotary tool, once the bandaid is gone you should be able to get it open easier ; ). Had a friend do that a hour before formation one day, drinking and sharpening a knife. Long day that was.
@ SOS Thanks for the video, I have like many other Europeans also a Opinel N ° 9 to the mushroom search. I will accept your improvements and optimizations for my Opinel. I get this with my "two left hands" just still! -? Maybe I'm trying to burn an oak leaf with acorns and my name with the soldering irons? Unfortunately, I do not have your options, a cheap soldering iron and tung oil I will buy myself and use the soldering iron on a piece of wood or branch to practice a lot. The base counter with the Ranger beads I will not implement, because I can not deal with it! We did not expect ranger beads from the Austrian army. This knife is a classic among us among the mushroom-pickers in Europe! Thanks again, it's just mushroom season! :-) Now I will also subscribe your channel, because I find your posts on RUclips very interesting - and of course a thumbs up for the video!
Great video! Wish I could stay a bit longer but the salmon are in the river. They are calling my name, oh how I hate to be mocked by fish! All kinds of fluffiness right back at you!
I like the tongue oil trick. I've been using Bullhide wood oil and Howard butcher block conditioner for my scales. I think I will go over to tongue oil for final 2 coats. Thanks brother.
Well yeah first thought was knife video and bandaged thumb. Is he practicing these videos? Nawwww. The T-Rex bit him. Great Vid! Love Opinel knives. My Dad had one when I was a kid and a Swedish Barrel pocket knife. I almost thought you were going to carve not yours into it.
What oils are you using for your leather work? For me, it s been Fieblings golden mink and Fieblings neatsfoot in reverse order. Mink is last coat before buffing.
Frigging Jarhead! "I cut myself makin grilled cheese"!! I blew water out my nose! Between you and Sippy I'm going to have to keep the drinks away from me!
You forgot everyone patinas them too lol. But aside that's cool, I love messing around with opinels. I whittled the back to a curve on one it helped the ergo's nicely.
Oh I have a semi related tip to throw out there. If the wood you are paintinting or treating is really dry mix 1/2 mineral oil with oil base paint or stain for 1 or 2 coats then allow to dry and finish with a couple more coats. This is to lower the amount of paint it requires. Especially if the stain or paint is expensive this can save a lot of product and allow the wood to soak up all it needs.
Thats cool man. Did you do this trick of charing on your 870 that you just tricked out with the leather stock saddle? Thats the purdiest 870 I ever did see. God Bless Brotha.
Bobby Parker I've used that on so many projects that's the only thing I recommend if you're doing would work like this making custom axes and things like that
Nice! From what I've seen in the Catalogs, one can get the Opinels from Isty Bitsy to NBA Center sizes, and either Stainless or Carbon. I also understand that a lot of Europeans carry Opinels in Stainless for "Personal Dining Tools". You know, cutting Sausage, slicing Cheese, etc, especially in those places like England where carrying Self Defense Knives are VERBOTEN! Think I might get one, but that Cold Steel version looks nice also. Thanks.
I have used shoestrings from shoes that have worn out to make ranger beads, godo way to recycle good shoestrings after the shoes have totally crapped out
Simplicity, pragmatism, affordability, customizability, good blade. It has a rustic charm to it and it's an old design with a lot of history attached, that has changed little because it just works.
@@AnotherAnon l get all that. But these guys that reject a knife that has .0002 worth of side slop are all gaga over these. A steel blade held together with a stick and pin. The first time l saw one of these was about 35 years ago when a Greek guy l worked with showed me his favorite knife. In my mind l was thinking " how primitive". Then over the years they started catching on here. There are some cool looking modified ones l've seen. But as an actual tool? Still don't get it. I have one,but it just sits there. I feel pretty much the same about the Mora Knives. Great knife, l have 2, but they just don't give me the "fizzzz".
great vids bro ! . but..... do you remember opie ? opie Taylor, from the Andy Griffith show .. that is how it is pronounced .. opie-nel ..sorry just had to :) its like when i hear people say porsh instead of Porsche .......it drives me nuts ..
Great video from a subscriber. We love Opinels here where I live. Visit us and see our video entitled: "Opinel Fire Kit." I think you'll like it. Our mod is no where as cool as yours, but it works for us.LJ Vietnam Veteran, USMC
It's a nice knife, I'll give you that. But the engraving gives you no tactical advantage whatsoever. Unless you were planning to auction it off as a collector's item.
David Crouch Ted Nugent??? He was a presidential candidate a few years ago wasn't he?? Oh and I think he played in a band once but don't know their name..

As much as I love keeping a knife as it comes and just letting it wear naturally for a "used look" ....
This is outstanding brother
Thank you
Bought an Opinel because of this video. Thanks again man

Good Job!! Like the burnish.. Lots of character.
Jim White I started to cut into the section of the handle where the thumb nail is on the blade so you could reach the blade better
Nice idea, might be easier with a rotary tool, once the bandaid is gone you should be able to get it open easier ; ). Had a friend do that a hour before formation one day, drinking and sharpening a knife. Long day that was.
I think we would all be interested in seeing what you do to a No.13!! Lol
Great job, thank you!

Charles Bollerman now keep in mind tungol hardens like glass
now that is something to think about. Especially when using red oak and mahogany.
Im guessing it would seal good enough to prevent expansion and contraction due to weather/ humidity?
Im trying to find another method other then stabilization of the knife scales in a hardener. Ties up wood for a week in stabilization method.
Thomas Grant that would be pretty cool carve not yours in Rune markings
Looks good!
Thanks for the great video! 👍👍👍
I thought I saw a T-rex very scary lol great customizing take care
Gut gemacht,schaut gut aus.
That is one sweet Opinel.
Looks good, I was just trying to decide weather I should get an Opinel or a Peasant folder.
Nice job.
Thank you
Are you make them for sale?
good work!
What oils are you using for your leather work? For me, it s been Fieblings golden mink and Fieblings neatsfoot in reverse order. Mink is last coat before buffing.
Charles Bollerman I have those in my cabinet. For some of the looks that I go for I have to use bag balm
Frigging Jarhead! "I cut myself makin grilled cheese"!! I blew water out my nose! Between you and Sippy I'm going to have to keep the drinks away from me!
It's definitely fancy.
Nice mod! One quick question that I may have missed. Did you sand the original finish off before using the torch and putting the tung oil on?
Yes
You forgot everyone patinas them too lol. But aside that's cool, I love messing around with opinels. I whittled the back to a curve on one it helped the ergo's nicely.
Can't patina stainless. I've tried.

I'm going to have to give me a can of that oil that looks cool
Bobby Parker I've used that on so many projects that's the only thing I recommend if you're doing would work like this making custom axes and things like that
what are you using to sand off the logo and smooth out the thumb notch??
Matthew Tesar Scotch-Brite

since the blade can lock, I'm not sure this would be allowed in the UK either!
The best thing about these is the customization. And if you screw up, just get another one for like $10
I use an Opinel No.6 as my EDC neck knife.
Cut a new handle out of g10, elforyn or juma install pairs of teflon washers et voilà you end up with half decent folder.
That sounds cool
Great artwork, love it! What temperature did you use on your soldering iron? Greetings from Germany, where "marlinspike" is called "Marlspieker" ;-)
Has 2 settings 15-30 I use 30
Very nice video
melih hasmert thanks brother
I have used shoestrings from shoes that have worn out to make ranger beads, godo way to recycle good shoestrings after the shoes have totally crapped out
You drive the hole at 10°??
Your Wood rasp is called a four in hand!!!
David Crouch I couldn't remember the name of it I didn't want to lie to you all thank you brother
you can pry off the metal ring for cleaning
cassanoa yep, get a screwdriver and push it in near the bottom of the ring and pry up and it should slide off
thats bad ass no pun intended ;] ;]
Clicked like when I saw the t-rex
any one else catch the " Cone Heads " reference?
No matter how l try, l don't understand the draw to these knifes.

To avoid cutting yourself when making a grilled cheese sandwich, never used sharp cheese...lol
Sam Adler That sharp cheddar is dangerous!!
