The players may have played their butt off tonight. But I felt like the coordinators quit on this team. So happy that Hazelton and Johnson are finally done!!
I was originally upset about the Jonathan Smith news. But the more I’ve looked into him, but more I’m ok with it.

Penn State fan here. I didn’t see an ounce of quit in the MSU players last night. They didn’t give Penn State an inch in the first half and the score showed it. They got worn out without a ton of subs in the second half. Anyway, having been through our own coaching crisis, I give the young men who stayed with their team and played hard all season a tip of the cap. That’s heart and dedication to teammates and team. See you next year!

@@ryan2985kManny Diaz lost his job at Miami in part because MSU kicked his butt on the road in 2021. I don’t think Penn State finished that game in classy fashion, from blitzing a walk-on to running the ball when they could take a knee, but at the same time if you don’t like it then don’t get beat. They play between those lines until the clock hits zero.

I know I’m bias, because I love Spartan Stadium, but if they’d move the last game of the year to Detroit every year would be a bad look for the program. Basically saying “we know our fans won’t come out in the cold”. Ohio State and Michigan don’t have that issue. And to not make a west coast team play in the cold? That’d be a miss.

Michigan fan here: I’ve been through the rough years of late Lloyd Carr / rich Rodriquez / the ups and mostly downs of Brady Hoke and now Jim Harbaugh. The one thing I always take away, is no matter how much you lose or win by, these kids chose to come to your school. Whether that is Michigan or MSU, or whatever school. As fans, we shouldn’t question the heart or determination of the players, just competency of the coaching. These are the young men that will shape our future as a nation, placed on public stage. Win or lose, support them and watch them grow.

I hated the idea of playing FF initially, then I realized 99% of the students are at home in Detroit on Thanksgiving anyway. So maybe not a bad deal. I'm sure you had more fans that stayed in FF than would have at SS. You could do a double play with MSU hockey at LCA.

If we want positives from this season, I'd say Eckley is about as good of a replacement for Barringer as we could realistically hope for, Jonathan Kim is a good college kicker, we have established Leavitt as by far the best quarterback remaining on our roster, Carter is good, the defensive line has been intermittently sturdy against the run despite the injuries and attrition (at the start of the game Penn State gave up on running it after being stopped on first and 1 and ran back to back passing plays), and it looks like we are finally going to have a competent coaching staff. A lot of other pieces need to be fixed. And we could easily lose some of those good points to the transfer portal.

  • @supermodel2

Not sure who this tall guy is but don’t agree with him at all on recruiting. Of course we need the local kids but these days the best players are from the south these days are Texas, Florida and Georgia. That’s why the best teams are Georgia, Alabama, Texas and Florida State. Michigan State needs to be a national brand not a regional brand. We want to compete with Ohio State, Michigan and the rest of the top 10. Technically in the future we want to be competing every year for a playoff spot that should be the goal. Of course I want Urban Meyer as the next coach and make him the highest paid coach in the country. If he passes then he passes. Michigan State needs to go big or go home that’s it!!! Johnathon Smith I think would be ok along with Elko from Duke or Lance Leipold. Regarding playing in Detroit I’ve been saying for years Sparty should have 1 home game every year at Ford Field. It can help in recruiting and improves the image of the program to play on the bigger stages and in the best stadiums.

Random thoughts from a PSU fan. PSU was where Sparty is, different circumstances, so we feel your pain. Sparty played their guts out until depth took over. I am surprised to see the darts being thrown at a coaching staff that ran out of bullets. Great idea to put this game at Ford Field. But, please don't do this in the future for the new Pac 12 members. Kenneth Walker got Mel Tucker a contract he never deserved. Tucker, was fools gold and was the cancer that sucked the life out of Sparty. Put the blame where is should be. Tucker's deal is also what got James Franklin his ten-year deal. Sparty fans were all class and showed PSU fans a fun time. Good luck, get the next hire right, and let us show our new members what BIG TEN football is all about.

"It's hard to get a winning power 5 coach from another team" - Yeah, now continue with that logic. Why is it hard? Because if they're winning , they're going to get paid. And they aren't going to leave a good situation. If you can get a winning power-5 coach, what are the chances they aren't really that good??
I prefer a coach who has proven they are elite on some level with a varied resume. Not 6 years at the same place with an overall losing record and essentially ONE marquee win in their career. I mean if we want to hire Jon Smith for his win against Oregon last year, why not get the coach from App State for beating A&M?

I doubt anyone is questioning the players. And you can never hate Harlan Barnett, he smiles too much. I don't even blame Mel Tucker, I blame the idiots who hired Mel Tucker.
And if those same idiots hire Jon Smith, I will blame them when the program starts to resemble Nebraska.
I know some fans, like Jim, like Smith, but he will absolutely be a dismal failure at MSU. I'm hoping Haller proves me wrong and surprises me with someone else.
Best sign right now is Jon Smith wasn't hired yet, meaning there's a good chance he won't be.

53 total yards and -35 rushing yards.
Imagine if this team had quit. Is negative total yards ever been done in the history of college football?
Players didn’t want to quit but they also know that football is a very physical game. Major injury is only a play away. Why would anyone risk injury for a non-consequential game?
Of course, they pulled back some. I don’t blame them either.

When you are completely demoralized on the field in multiple games, the best you can hope for is a complete overhaul of the coaching staff, and that’s the only positive you can take from this-there will be a new staff in the next 5 days.
Otherwise, this season was a COMPLETE disaster.

I also find it hilarious that this was tuckers year, he had his recruits and tucks coming. This was every sparty fans mentality. Well when this unfolded it was " were were only supposed to win 5 or six games at best😂😂😂 " tucker was never vetted before the hire and the rest is history. @JustinHudson-cx5ym I see time as a problem. You don't build a program in one year. Especially at MSU. If this guy recruits like he did at OSU, mostly weak 3-star guys. And wins 5-6 games per year for 3-5 years. It will take the next coach 3-5 years to restock. People will always say "you have to give him 4 years to get his own players". That's why you don't mindlessly pick a HC. At least get someone who recruits well. I doubt that's Smith.
