    "Don't move here, there's traffic"
Imagine moving to one of the most walkable cities in the country with great public transportation and deciding to own a car anyway

I worked in King of Prussia and lived in Mt. Airy so the car came in handy but it was worth it because I could take the train and almost anywhere else I had to go.

Remember, you are never stuck in traffic, you are the traffic. If you don't like the traffic in the city, get a bike, walk, use septa. Stop bringing more cars and congestion into this city.

Thanks for the honest video. The negatives you listed are pretty much the same in every major city so people who can't live with them should stay away from all major cities.

Thoughtful of you to list these reasons but I think for most people they are minor irritants at best. The taxes aren’t that big of deal unless you’re coming from a zero income tax state and PA has a reasonable sales tax with lots of exemptions,it certainly helps. Traffic is just a fact of life in major metros and while SEPTA isn’t perfect,it’s pretty good. Philly is also highly walkable which is a huge bonus. Weather? The humidity in summer is the biggest drawback IMHO. There’s no sugarcoating the filth issue though, the city could and should be a lot cleaner. That requires buy in from the public and greater effort from government. As for crime,it’s complicated and one could write volumes. My general feeling is that there are certain areas that should be avoided and the city,by and large is mostly safe. Overall Philadelphia is an underrated gem and has great potential.

I lived there for 3 years. Commuted from Germantown to King of Prussia everyday because my partner worked in Center City (You know what that was like). I loved the energy there but I had friends who lived there without cars and guess who they called when they needed to buy something on the other end of town or further out. Keep in mind even if you are lucky enough to live near Reading Terminal Market or a grocery store you are going to have to get your bags of goodies back to your apartment in that freezing cold and sufficating heat this vlogger is talking about. It's a fun city and you never get bored but I would never move back. I moved to Pittsburgh for family reasons. Overall a much easier city to live in except that downtown is dead compared to Philly along with having to put up with obsessed sports fans who love french fries on their sandwiches and salads.

Indeed, downtown Pittsburgh is dead. It's not even a city IMO right now.

I live in Center City. I have a fold-up cart in my apartment for bringing grocery bags home. There are 6 grocery stores within walking distance of my house. I don’t think you are cut out for urban living - and a dead downtown like Pittsburgh isn’t urban living. If you have a car you are not a true urbanite.

@@georgemiller151 Urbanite is a relative term. Before Philly I lived in Seattle for 20 years, 10 of those years without a car. I am doing OK financially but can't afford to move back to Philly or Seattle. Both cities have a vibrant culture and you have to pay for it. I will take boring Pittsburgh for now because my house and car are paid for and I have the money to travel anywhere I want to. I am glad you are doing well over there. Sometimes I miss it.

Why would anyone move to a pedestrian city and complain about traffic? I want more congestion! I want the city to make it more uncomfortable for cars! I’m thrilled that the city is about to narrow car lanes on south broad street. And that many car lanes have been converted to bike lanes hope that someday cars are banned and trollies are everywhere.
New York City is dirty. Center City is pretty clean.

Bonus Reason #6 - The sport teams. Don't move here if you're a fan of other teams. Moved here from S. Floriduh and the philly fans are brutal. I don't go to live games anymore.

PA does not tax Social Security. ~Sincerely a GEnX-Boomer. Taxes are a wash. More bike-able and scooter-friendly, access is coming. NYC cleaned up so Philly is on the way… This guy is a Debbie downer.

I grew up in Philly a long time ago. Think about the movie Rocky and you'd see what it was like while I was growing up. Dirty, but mostly livable. Then watch Rocky V and see how it went completely downhill. That's what it was like when I moved back in 2017 and worked on helping my mom sell her house so I could get her the hell out of there (she lived in Holmesburg for 50 years, where I grew up). I moved her and my mentally disabled sister to Lexington, Kentucky and have no regrets. Sure, it's a lot slower here (people from major cities would consider it boring) but we like it that way. A couple of years ago, we had our highest number of homicides ever for the year with 44. With a population 1/5th that of Philadelphia, you would expect that there would be five times as many homicides there. That would be about 220. Nope, it was more than double that amount. So Philly is more than twice as dangerous as Lexington. And we don't have people stepping onto a bus and shooting people here, either. Nor do we have druggies walking around like zombies in our neighborhoods (cough Kensington cough). No thanks, I have no desire to go back. I tell anyone I know who visits Philly to enjoy downtown, enjoy the suburbs, but forget that the rest of the city even exists.

The only safe parts of Philadelphia are Center City and Roxborough. It’s chaos everywhere else here. I’ve been a mailman in Kensington for 34 years and I’ve been robbed twice myself. There’s hardly no police and people shoot at will knowing that they’re not going to get caught . And people are riding those motor cycles and scooters are in and out of traffic and nobody is stopping them . People from all over the country move to Philadelphia for a year or two and then they’re out of here.
