Crisis is an underated piece. Its a brilliant 80's synth symphony.
Definitely one of my favourites, especially from 13:30 - pop up the volume :)
Back then on day 0, I bought the album Crisis and I've lost count of how many times I've listened to it! Mike Oldfield is undoubtedly blessed by God, to allow us to hear something out of this world! A genius, alongside whom, in my opinion, only someone like Hans Zimmer can shine so brilliantly!
Best album of all time
This man is a true musically genious..! I have loved him since mid 80s and still want more of this.
#metoo
Only after reading Mike's Autobiography changeling did I realize he worked so hard on his music and collaborated with some great musicians and his music is timeless. Still discovering some of his music I never knew existed even though I was raised listening to him. Amamzing concert. Wish I was there but hadn't been born in 1983 :D
Masterpiece, Mike Oldfield at the top of his musical mind
This was my first ever concert! So great to be there - and to see it again!
Lucky
Mine too
Simon Phillips is really at the top on this performance. Thank you!
Simon Phillips is one of the most inspiring and versatile drummers I know!
Simon i Spalding ,to muzycy z Toyah
. Spalding z Gtr. Simon Phillips był producentem i drumerem crisis .Mike Odfield 83.
The only album I have both on vinyl, CD and as download from iTunes. Crisis has been with me for 30 years and it still makes me turn the volume all the way up - just want it louder, louder, LOUDER! Thanks, Mike.
Good idea! I´ve got the cassette too, but the 5.1 30 year aniversary is the best.
I've been a fan of Mike Oldfield for many years, yet in my older age I've discovered music that I've missed and still feel riveted by it. His music will resonate forever.
I'm only 22 but I can relate. :) Mike's music is truly magnificent, it touches a part of our humanity rarely engaged by nowadays life.
Simon Philips !! Quel batteur.
I'm in my teen years, and I'm so glad my dad introduced me to Mike Oldfield. There's all those other songs teens listen to, then there's me with Mike Oldfield and Ben Howard. :)
Mike Oldfield's best work, like Crises, is truly complex and intricate to play, so much you would think it would only work as a studio album. But all those live renditions are completely crafted, perfectly executed, so much so that they are as good, if not better, than the studio albums. Great stuff. And, although it should be obvious, Mike Oldfield is a tremendous guitarist, but - I don't know why - usually and totally undeserving underrated...
The bassist reaction when the leqd guitar and violin come together just epic!
Phil Spalding is phenomenal, a very good bass player
@@aleksanderwasilewski5686 Mad as cake, though...
@@34hedgehog every band needs a loon.
The fact that 99% of them are bass players and drummers is merely coincidence. :)
@@aleksanderwasilewski5686 RIP Phil Spalding
@@docnflossie7351 I think that Phil may have snorted some CC: he's dancing a bit too much, even when the music is very soft. Mike was more into LSD in the old days... Seems that stopping with acid was even worse for him than for Santana : he turned [far?] right wing conservative making boring music, Carlos has just became boring but he's still cool
Note that those I knew who were doing acid went schizo in the end for the most of 'em... Those doing CC became really dumb...
Finally, I took the right decision doing without...
Pisses me off for Phil: I have an ongoing project and I was considering to hire him for sessions job when I heard that he passed.
Awesome drumming from Mr. Simon Phillips...
What a great show with a lot of musical enthusiasm by Mike and his group. What a shame that the concert film only includes these two songs. The setlist on that evening was pretty awesome:
Intro (Woodhenge)
Excerpt from 'Incantations (Part 3)'
Sheba
Excerpt from 'Ommadawn (Part 1)'
Mount Teidi
Five Miles Out
Tubular Bells (Part 1)
Taurus I
Taurus II
Crises
Moonlight Shadow
Shadow On The Wall (special guest: Roger Chapman)
Family Man
Mike Oldfield
Crisis is an amazing piece, powerful guitars and drums. This concert is awesome and Simon Phillips is a genius!. The version of Family man from this concert is the best version of that song.
Fantastic performance! Mike's on fire!
At 13:00 the real magic starts!!! I've been in love with the synthesizer & drums part since my early childhood.
OMFG. What a performance.
Just . The best of Mike.
It is wired but i hear this song every day. Mr Oldfield got so much musical power...unbelievebale and every woman starts to shiver and gets nervous while listining to his music. A Masterpiece. Thank you so much Mr Oldfield that we can share your talent. I do this since the 80. Greetings from germany
I had just spent a year in Britain and went to this concert just before I left for home. I remember clearly. It was wonderful.
The music of the Gods. Thanks Mike for giving it to us, mere mortals.
Oldfield, what a wizard!!!
Brilliant music, brilliant performance.
I was stationed in Germany during this concert, and bought the album there. My only regret is not going to see this fantastic concert, nor the one that followed (Discovery), due to mission requirements.
PS: What a great God-given talent Simon Phillips has. My favorite drummer of all time.
Such a great performance and music!
Crisis is an
absolute beauty...
I was in London that night, a 17-year-old US fanboy (and he never toured the states much), and I couldn't see it because of a rehearsal for the group I was in...Nooooo! Thanks for the chance to see it 35 years later!
the really great things of music: Mike Live
love this live version of TB. The drums really adds a lot.
Oldfield has been brilliant and amazing for years
The watcher and the tower, waiting hour by hour... epic!!!
Everyone: **jammin**
Mike: **completely concentrated and stonefaced**
I was at this concert too. It was actually billed as the Tubular Bells 10th Anniversary Concert, I had never seen a rock concert then or since with so much gear on stage!
Huge thunderstorm going on outside when we left, what a night!
Definitely one of Mike's best live performances. Tubular Bells 2 live in Edinburgh tops this but not by all that much. And I have a bunch of nostalgia for TB2.
This one is better ...truly played live ... Edinburgh is a flagrant playback !!!
This explains Phil Spalding's performance in the GTR video for When the Heart Rules the Mind. The guy is a dancer with a bass.
Outstanding!! I have not heard this before. Very nice to see & hear a Steinberger fretless bass being payed in there. Drums....Amazing!! And of course Mike :-)
Excellent, grandiose !
On another planet. Absolutely fab. Crises crises - did Mike know something………………..
There never was a music like this
Oh but... this guy is a genius !
I was there in my youth
Mike Oldfield's Mark Knopfler moment. :)
MAGNIFIQUE J'Y ÉTAIS AN 1983
dedecool
J'étais à ce concert à Bruxelles, Forest National.
Blimey, how good is this? Great to see Simon Phillips giving it some stick too...never seen him play with MO before on a vid. Bass player is totally into it and slightly bonkers but bloody good though. Thanks for uploading. Love the album, love this energetic performance. Great sounding vid. Happy times!
+Glen Ferris There's much more from this show on the Crises deluxe edition. Great live stuff.
If you enjoyed Simon Phillips playing here, you should check out some videos of MO's concerts in San Sebastian and Viareggio from the 1984 tour.
Merci Mike.
this is the coolest thing i've ever seen.
Superb. absolutely superb!!
09:07 Simon Phillips on Drums!;-)
@and321now that is funny! Are you a comedian?
SUPERB...I'm going to be all greedy and snotty and request that a DVD/SD-Blu-Ray of this show be released as an accompaniment to the Deluxe edition of the Crisis CD...
+Scott F. Good idea ;-)
+1
It was. There was a boxset, that included a DVD of the show (just these two performances though), but it's extremely rare to get now.
Let the hunt begin...Thanks...
Oh of course!
The best Part of this Song on the Album or live in my Opinion starts from min 4:38 with the following highlight moment peaking at 5:04,finally the Music starting from 13:52 !!!
Unbelievable !!!
It is a great pleasure to know this Album !!!
You know its good music when the musicians are losing and s*it while they play! I LOVE IT
Fantastic! I was there on the night with my mate Tim. Loved the rocked-up TB and seeing Roger Chapman sing Shadow On The Wall live was a real treat. First big gig I ever went to and still by far the best.
+Andrew Fowler This music is pure sci-fi in billions of ways
+Andrew Fowler i envy you. i was born in 1984 i and feel i missed a lot.
My first gig too I was16
helluva percussion lineup..pierre moerlin and simon phillips!
13:20.......it made me eyes water! AMAZING!!!!
There is a story behind this. Mike was unwilling to do this stadium rock thing. His manager offered him a new car and some. Just to do it. Mike agreed. With doubt and concern in his head. I understand why. But this is fucking great. Charity love.
+j b the car was for TB in the BBC TV in 1973 when i recall correctly. An old Bentley, Richard Branson drove MO to the show with. MO wasn't sure if can do it, so Richard offered the car to avoid the disaster.
Richard Branson didn't have easy job with MO :).
Jeeeez! I thought Mike was Mark Knopfler for a moment! Same wristbands/headband set up! Super video. Thanks for posting! Love it and can't believe it was never release before! Mike on the radio "Bring me my chopper" Pilot: "Roger That" Mike "Wembley this is MO1. We are Oscar Mike do you read" Wembley "Copy that. You're fans are waiting"!!!!
That headband was actually the influence of his girl friend at that time. So she pointed out in a BRAVO interview actually, that Mike as boss on guitar should look way cooler :-/
Imagine Mark and Mike team up
@@suhardyabdullatiff801 Mike Knopfler!!!!🤣😅
what a powerfull performance all around the stage!!
In my book Phillips is one of the most musical drummers on planet earth. End of discussion
Amen!
Tout simplement magique...
Pierre Moerlen & Simon Phillips a perfect pair
Gracias Per TODOS Mike Oldfield, Message from a Fan 👍🙏
And with Ant on second guitar, Graeme Pleeth on keyboards, Phil Spalding on bass and the fantastic Simon House (High Tide, Hawkwind, David Bowie) on violin.
and that does rather look like Pierre Moerlen on percussion and second drum kit :-)
England's Mozart.
Masterpiece. he was brilliant for me. After Discovery he lost his way. Discovery was the highlight.
Well, he still did very good albums like "Amarok", "Voyager" or "Songs Of Distant Earth". I also have a special thing for "Guitars" and "Heaven's Open".xD
If you have missed it. Early this year (2017) Mike Oldfield released a new album called "Return to Ommadawn". It is very good. Is it similar to the original Ommadawn? I wouldn't really say so... But they are both good!
That does it: only Decaf for Spalding from now on!!!
Ant, like young Slash :) Giant!
the best mike oldfield's band !
I was traveling with my family in England when Crises came out. I remember seeing posters all over the London underground for 'Crises' and Peter Gabriel 'Plays Live' My older brother bought the cassette tape. We played it at our hotel in London. I was hooked. The LP/CD wasn't available in the US for several years. It's still my favorite Mike Oldfield album. This live performance is awesome.
Simon Philips = GOD
He played for all the big ones and still you dont notice him, he is just there doing his thing as part of it all.
Thats professional.
Not at all. too many egos on stage, him and the bass guitarist with the headless guitar especially. The real DRUM GOD was Pierre Moerlen. He never needed an oversized kit with double bass pedals, as he was faster than that, and perfectly tight.
really legend. so impressive! precious musician in 20th century. my precious~~~~
I was there as a 16 year old. It was the 10th anniversary of Tubular Bells! I didn't realise they were so off their tits as a kid! LOL 4.39 is a classic, way too fast!!! I have one of simons drum sticks from that night ;)
Mike Oldfield really did make Beautiful Music, Thank you ror Posting it.
Crises and tubular bells in the same gig, fucking luck for all the people was there
That’ll be me then 😊 It was incredible.
Simon Phillips omg!
Gods. Everybody in the band. But Simon is a godbeast.
I'm 13 and I fucking love mike oldfield crises is my fave song and album
At 13 mins turn up keyboards are amazing
Whatever drug the bass player is on; I want it!
Phil Spalding is a very good musician. See how they play with this music
Hi Andreas Baer. A little hallo as i wrote on fb.. Glad u liked the upload. Cheers Lars :-)
crisis gran álbum del gran mike genial
I like as Mike's guitar sings. It is Simon Phillips to the battery ?? Of ToTo at present. It is a good !!
Un pur bonheur. Respect
