i have a Merauke blue tongue skink and it has about the same humidity requirement and his enclosure just bleeds humidity, me misting 3-5 times a day wasn't keeping it where it needed. So i MacGyvered together a home made fogger from a vicks humidifier (basically just added a washing machine drain line i bought at lowes to funnel it into the enclosure) and bought a humidity controller and set it to kick on and off when needed. the reason i didn't just buy a regular fogger was because none of the ones i saw didn't hold very much water and didn't have very good reviews. the vicks humidifier had great reviews and holds over a gallon of water so only needs filled once a week. the humidity controller(made by hummingbird) is meant for hydroponics set ups but works for what i needed.
I'm so glad you made this video! :) I've had halmaheras for years now and honestly I pretty much just had to wing it since all the care sheets just kept contradicting one another... Its great to see someone put out some accurate information! :) it's too bad your guys don't take any live insects! I definitely feel it's necessary for their diet to have them but obviously you've done everything you can (grub pie is great for picky geckos!) just crazy to me that a halmahera would refuse all wormies lol mine jump to the front to greet me every feeding night, they know the routine now. Have you tried black soldier fly larvae? Mine like those. It's funny though because mine go though picky moments too of only eating one kind of bug for a month and then deciding they don't like it anymore for another month... They are funny little things. Thanks again for the video!
I tried bsfl once quite awhile ago and they turned their noses up to them but I'm going to give them another try! It's so weird because most owners that I've talked to don't have as much as an issue with theirs eating insects like mine do. I'm going to keep trying and hopefully they'll take interest at some point 🤞
@@ReptileSmiles that's great :) honestly your care seems pretty spot on, it's just super surprising to me that they don't take live since mine actually beg for food. But they do have their own personalities and my male won't take crickets no matter what I do so it's really all trial and error but good luck! :)
Great Video I am getting 2 Halmarhera geckos tomorrow morning from Underground Reptiles I am very Excited I know that wild caught is not good but if i can tame a Crazy Demon Tokay gecko then this is a walk in the park
I just got a female halmahera giant gecko from a online auction, at the auction photo she looks cute not too big and have kind a bright brown skin just like your gecko, but after I won the auction and then the package arrived I was shock with this creature size its huge, she's arround 28cm long and 7cm wide, and their color is dark green just like moss/bark, and their head n their eyes so big its freaking creepy 😭 idk what I suppose to do now, I hope I can handle this creature but Im affraid
People are really against wild caught, but what people dont understand is animals dont just magically appear in captivity. Also if new genetics don't come in occasionally captive populations will eventually die out.
I need some help. I am the process of breeding two helmahera geckos. How do I know if they're getting along or if the mail is just picking on the female during night I will come down and I will hear a lot of commotion grunting etc I will take a look at time to time at her and I will see bite marks down her body not too sure if he is trying to me or if he's picking on her either way what would be your recommendation of how long to keep them in the same cage till removing!?!?. Please let me know I would love some feedback.
I’ve never heard of these guys but they look fantastic! So cool. It’s great they you plan on eventually breeding them. :) I learned a lot from this video. Thanks for sharing.
I might be getting a female of this species soon and I am so great full you did this video. I cannot seem to find any videos on them. This one was great thank you so much !!!! Love your Chanel 😊
Thanks for the info, I try to learn about all different types of animals not just the ones that I own. I always just knew them as the gecko that sloughs there skin off lol. Have great night
Now that you've had your pair for a few years, do you still consider them to be principally a display species? I have a breeder locally and find the species interesting. I have noticed many pics on Instagram of you and other keepers handling them, and am curious about how tolerant they are. Thanks for posting such a thorough and informative guide
There is a tip for getting baby geckos to take insects that may still work for you. It may seem savage, but if you remove a crickets head from their body and then using tongs put the cricket close to the geckos lips they shouldn't be able to resist and will love them from then on. Good luck they are awesome.
I've been wanting to get one of these guys! Such a cool species. I had a really hard time finding a trust worthy care guide. This is a great video! Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video! I saw a beautiful Halmahera at my local shop and was really curious! Turns out they're not for me yet, but I'm so glad you have so much good info on them!
The red eyed crocodile skinks are the same way more for show they’ll rarely let you hold them and you can tell that they don’t want to be held when you do hold them cause they just sit really still
I’m currently trying to breed these amazing animals. One of the coolest animals I’ve owned. Hate how not many people care enough to breed them in captivity.
Saw one for sale today for like $100, was curious what they were. I own 3 Crested + 1 Gargoyle Gecko. I wanted a Chahoua but they are like $700+ here so when I saw one of these cheap I was interested and curious.
I hardly recognized them seeing them so calm and not on the ceiling 😂
It's like having 2 geckos in 1 😂😂
Love this video! One of the only good videos about gmarginata that I’ve seen!
Such a cool animal! I've never heard of them before, but they're so neat looking. Thank you for sharing! :-)
"Not gonna Deprive them of their poop water bowl for my convenience" 😂😂 love it
they look so similar to chahouas
I love Howlmulhera geckos too!! 🤩😂😅
Can't go wrong with a hamsandwichahera shmecko 😂😂
Thank you SOO much!
What wattage is the bulb you’re using?
Do you know anybody that has captive bred babys ?
I got both of my CB's from The Rep Room
Never heard of these.

The 7% Arcadia Shadedweller T5 would be a good option for them UV wise.

@@Rsheissekopf yeah but only one baby so far
Glad to see they are doing well. I remember on Reptilian Garden, when you got one of them. Please keep us updated.
Is it safe to pet them or will gently stoking their skin tear it off?
They seem like crested geckos
good video. subscribed.
Cool video :)
Do you know the names of any breeders?
I got both of mine from The Rep Room! Northern Maryland Geckos also breeds them 🙂
