    I like that you show these scenes in the order the actual game presents them in, rather than smashing them together in a chronological order that actually makes no sense like the other movie of this game did.

      @aquelesousa 3 года назад +22

      It is ALMOST correct.
      Drakengard has actually Three Routes, let's call them "Route A", "Route B" and "Route C". Except from the Route A, the Route B and C has Two endings. Route B and its ending is the one of Furiae's becoming a Dragon-Like creature, the other ending to this route is the Angelus one, where we fight her.
      Route C is the one where it takes consideration of the presence of the side-characters - Leonard, Arioch and Seere. Route C and the first ending, the one where Seere sacrifice himself, starts off with the normal encounter of each individual character and that's why they are not part of the first Route, Route A, because they are part of the Route which has Roman Numbers (I-II-III-IV), these numbers represents the Route C and its endings. To Route C they do not consider and are not part of the same storyline structure, but the second ending to this Route, the ending that we all know as the one that ties with NieR, "Ending E", this one starts with each individual side character and its different meetings, because in this Route the story is extremely different and it is going for a redemption arc of these horrible characters - in the Japanese is even more clear because Seere considers Caim as his brother and Leonard as his Uncle, and this feelings to a Japanese audience is more "personal" than we think.
      So to summarize:
      Route A: Manah is defeated and Angelus becomes the next seal.
      Route B - First Ending: Furiae becomes a Dragon and all the seals cracks and gives birth to an race of Furiae's Dragons. (Fucking weird) This Route recognizes Leonard, but only Leonard being found by Caim. The trigger to each ending is the fight against Inuart, the second one, and the trigger is whether you can kill him fast enough in the fight. If you are powerful and fast enough, you can get the Second Ending first.
      Route B - Second Ending: We fight Angelus, Furiae is not put in the Seed, the Seeds are destroyed but the Petrified Dragons awake and Caim goes to fight them. (Fucking weird, because it is bad written)
      Route C - First Ending: Starts of with Caim meeting each side-character, is in this route that their presence is acknowledged and it is the one that through the end we have the flying babies and it ends with Seere sacrificing himself to save the world - Caim and Angelus dies.
      Worth mentioning that the scene of Furiae being incestuous its part of the Route B, because to any other Route besides A to happen, you need to make a choice right before you go up to the Air Fortress (Don't remember what its called) right after the War and the Nukes. Leonard alerts you that the Sea Fortress is being attacked, and then you fly to that place and has a fight in there. The trigger for the cutscene to happen is whether you are fast enough (again) to beat the seals that are surrounding the Fortress, not the enemies.
      If you are fast enough, you get inside and there's no one there, so you and Leonard found a Portal and that Portal teleports you to the Air Fortress. And then you get the cutscene.
      Route C - Second Ending: This Route is the one of the Side-Quests and Tokyo-shit. (Crazy)
      This one is tricky, because different from the Route C - First Ending, this one has an entire separate story, because this route - if you pay attention to - is the only one that recognizes the Side-Quests, the individual stories of each character, and they are supposed to be done in order, because they are progressively telling an story which is the redemption of the entire team. But one might say: "So the Route C - First Ending has them and acknowledges them, right?" Well... No, because the beginning of this Route is when you meet these characters before their Side-Quests in completely different contexts and this is the trigger to each individual side-quest. The Temple of the Forest has already being destroyed and that's how you find Leonard in this ending, for example.

    I was going through the other "The Movie" version again and thought "I would really want to go through a The Movie video with japanese dub. But there is no way anyone have done it" then I see this. Awesome.
    I see you show things the other video doesn't, good! I want those NPC character dialogues. I recall the same person who made the other video skipped a shitload of that for the Drakengard 3 too.

    I love it when a story's core is the deconstruction of concepts and people. I loved especially the deconstruction of Seere in his ending. It's the ultimate form of storytelling for me. To see the structured reality slowly crumble and see what comes of it...

    Furiae's song of exhaustion described her unfiltered feelings.
    Caim's tells his story and the true multitude of emotions behind his character.
    The two siblings are very clear contrasts of each other and are very intriguing.
    P.S: A comment said the horns sound like Dragons laughing. Considering the Dragons are actually the devolved versions of the Watchers, I would not be surprised if that was a literal assumption.

    Nice to see the original with subtitles - it's a shame that the American release edited out all the lore though. Heck, you get worse in GOT! What's missing in the subtitles are the parts where it said about Leonard being sexually attracted to Seere (and his kid brothers), Arioch being a child murderer and cannibal and of course, the vital line that Furiae is forced to say by Manah, which is "Brother, I want you inside me". (All physically said.)

    • @eldarius237
      @eldarius237 2 года назад +9

      The sexual perversions of the protagonists are vital part of the lore, surely.
      It was supposed to be the selling point for the Japanese audience, I guess.
      The story, the Nier sequels especially, is great on its own; I can only assume that straight protagonists don't sell on the Japanese game market.

    If I made the anime movie/series based on the game, I think in terms of timeline, I would make it similar to "Evangelion", meaning there would be two versions of it.
    First, we would see route C, but with the final monologue following Caim's race towards battle being similar to "1.3", so we would get the revelation dragons are the Watchers and the Seeds/Eggs, objects that exist through out time all at once, and this route is an entire time loop of sorts.
    But then, after the credits, Accord's voice would be heard explaining the concept of timelines and Singularities, taking us to a route that is a mix of routes B, D and E, in order to make this "true" ending as Lovecraftian as possible.

      Angelus (or Angel as known in the original, with her male counterpart in Drakengard 2 having the same name as her but in reverse - Legna) is still female in the original. Similar to Moro being female in Princess Mononoke - although they are played by men, they are actually female, with both being Goddesses.

    I've been thinking a bit about the importance of music for the Watchers to use their power and how important music is for Inuart, to the point that's his Pact's price.
    I wished there were videos dedicated to analysing this game's characters, such as the similarities between Inuart and Seere as artist/scholar and what makes Manah and Caim reflections of one another.
    Because it would help me spread this theory. I'm starting to think Inuart may indeed have Intoner blood in him (don't know if it is Brother One, Five or Zero that is his ancestor). It could explain, if you take anything about the disasterous happy go spin-off seriously, why only he and Furiae could use the Seed to birth the New breed. Dragon DNA mixed with Intoner and Goddess material... Remember that in "Drakengard 1.3", it is implied Dragons might actually be the Watchers from "Drakengard 1". I think this is the New breed they were unknowingly strifing for.
    The Watchers from "DoD 1" are VERY different from the ones from "3". They feel like black holes in baby form rather than destructive beasts of immense power. I think that's because they don't simply have Intoner power. They have dragon and Goddess power to back them up. That said, I don't think Inuart and Furiae died in the fortress. I think he her convinced her to bang, bringing the Watchers from "Drakengard 1.3" over.

    There is this anime called "Angel Beats" that keeps failing at winning me over despite its MANY qualities, and I couldn't understand why... Until this game. The deconstruction in that anime not only felt rushed, it wasn't enough for me. Many of the characters weren't handled properly with that process.
    Well, that, and my somewhat lack of empathy for Yurippe's cause, since I saw other grief blinded characters more prone to listen to reason. I find the placing of the world's problems on God alone completely idiotic and illogical. While it is true the Force could do more to help, we can not forget our own responsibility in corrupting this world. It must be a team work to fix it, especially when you remember there are other forces at work.
    Just needed to let this out of my chest.

    Did the English Translation Team include a few references to Buffy in the English release, or are the name changes just conincidences/mistranslations/avoiding offending relegion?
    They changed 天使 (tenshi) = Angels to The Watchers and the name of the Red Dragon Angel to Angelus. Both of these terms are highly associated with Buffy, which at the time of release of this game was arguably at its peak in populartiy.

    What if we've been looking at the timeline all wrong ?
    For example, what if there are actually two Cathedral Cities (although the city is said to be on the Iberian Peninsula, in the original game, it's located outside the map, beyond clouds) because the timeline is actually this:
    -Drakengard 3 (routes C and E);
    -Tokyo, 2003;
    -Drakengard 1;
    -Nier;
    -Nier Automata (route C).
    What if Brother One and his cult were the ones who came up with project Gestalt ?
    What if he's the reason the Gestalts became violent before the Shadowlord was thought of ?
    What if the Seeds are actually clones of Emil and his sister that are harvested by the androids to be turned into angels/Watchers, with those who disobey being twisted into dragonhood ?
    What if the Empire's crusade is the reason humanity is so spread thin in "Nier", and without any knowledge about technology, and with little to no use of magic ?
    What if that's why Brother One was exiled from the church ? Because his red eyes were too similar to that of androids and Salt creatures, meaning he could turn humans into bloodthirsty creatures too, the same way androids and the Legion were ?

    That said, I think I have a timeline that explains how "Drakengard" and "Nier aren't set on different Earths, but on the same one, simply in different continents and time periods.
    It all starts with the Cathedral city being transferred from Earth's future into medieval Europe during the alien invasion we learn of in "Automata", forever changing the final outcome of humans, dragons and all the other species that inhabited our world.
    Us humans were meant to hunt down and destroy all magic on Earth, thus becoming the dominant species and being abandoned by God and Its angels when the 👽 invaded us. But the city got transferred into Europe during that invasion, probably in an attempt to save our species from extinction by preparing us for what was to come, introducing our science MUCH earlier and having humans in what would become the Imperial part of Europe/Midgard evolve at a rather fast but corrupting speed, leading God to decide that Mankind's time had come. If genocide or corruption were the only options with humans in charge, then a flower would rebuild life through self fertilization, using the decay for the proccess and replacing it with something that offered a better smell than humanity's.
    Unfortunately for the divine beings, Caim, Angelus, the dragons and everyone else would keep Furiae from achieving this goal, thus forcing the babies to come down, using Furiae's clones to form their mother/pathway. But even then, they would not be successful, because Seere would freeze everyone in Midgard so the insanity could not spread through out the globe. But before he could freeze the Mother, the monstrosity, realizing what was about to happen, would cut herself off from the womb and escape into the distant future, in a place far away from the frozen Midgard/Europe, when humanity's corruption reached its peak. This place was the Cathedral city, when it was still known as Tokyo. Angelus and Caim gave chase before they too could be frozen, and although they did keep the beast from rampaging, in the end, their battle would seal humanity's fate.
    So, conclusion:
    -Europe is a weird arc floating in the still waters of time, locked on an apocalyptic picture with an innocent child sleeping at the heart of everything, keeping humanity from reaching the world we know today, but probably keeping magic from going extinct, as I suspect it was the Europeans who began promoting the genocide of all magical creatures once the age of Discoveries began;
    -Asia still managed to develop, probably 50/50 the same (not sure if any country would be interested in initiating the Discoveries though), until the arrival of Caim, Angelus and the Mother Watcher, beginning the disease that would wipe out the remaining areas of the globe before the alien invasion;
    -The only humans and magic left are the Europeans and probably part of the Africans, all preserved like insects on crimson and black amber. If the androids or the machines will ever wake them up or try to prevent this timeline of events from happening however, is unknown. Earth is already on a delicate state. It could be unwise to do something radical now, though I suspect they will simply make sure the cycle starts anew in their attempts.

    • @SpookerK
      @SpookerK  4 года назад +3

      The timeline is rather confusing and can't be put into a perfectly chronological order, so I've ordered it mostly the way the game presents it when you play through it. It's been a while since I made this so I couldn't think of a very good answer to help you out lol.

    So right off the bat I noticed that in english Angelus sounds like a women but in Japanese it’s a man!? I mean surely Square Enix was consulted over english voice actors so why did they make such a silly change?

    • @SpookerK
      @SpookerK  3 года назад +8

      Angelus is canonically female in both versions, despite the voice. Look up Shinnosuke Ikehata, he voiced Angelus AND Caim.
