There’s a great video on RUclips of Dio recording his verse in the studio. He wrecks it and one-takes it, blowing Jack Black’s mind and all the other people in the studio as well. He asks if they want another take and Jack Black is like “no, that was perfect.” And Dio’s like “ man, I was having fun!” Lol. And he says he likes his lyrics. Lol. This song is from the movie Tenacious D and The pick of destiny, starring Jack Black and Kyle Gas. The movies plot is basically how the band Tenacious D came to be and it's gotta be one of my favorite movies ever. Also that song smokey was talking about is called Tribute and there is a reference to that song in the movie.
Also, the song you heard on MTV is called “Tribute” the chorus goes “This is not the greatest song in the world... this is just a tribute... couldn’t remember the greatest song in the world, no... this is a tribute... to the greatest song in the world.” The music of the song is clearly implying that the song they’re referring to is Stairway to Heaven
@@gimphandjeff I mean, the album version still has chord progressions and rhythms reminiscent of Stairway. But I agree, they did mask it a bit more in the album version.
Actually going by the lyrics in the song as well, it could be referring to The Devil Went Down To Georgia as there are a ton of similarities between the lyrics.
@@RemniStrath I mean... that’s clearly the inspiration for the actual events of the song with them battling the devil with music... that’s just obvious. (And also the inspiration for the pick of destiny movie) I’m talking about the actual music.
The dad was played by the legendary Meatloaf, in Tenacious D Jack plays acoustic rhythm guitar, Kyle Gass plays the lead. This was the opening and first song of The Pick of Destiny, which was the full length musical film version of the story BEHIND The Greatest Song In the World.
The thing that I love about this is that Meat Loaf is portraying a dad who thinks rock and roll is the devil’s work meanwhile he’s a rocker himself. This is just hilarious. Unfortunately both Dio and Meat Loaf are gone at the time that I’m posting this comment.

This musical scene is from the Jack Black movie Tenacious D, I suggest you watch it, one of his best movies. I seem to remember a part two call "The Pick of Destiny" or something along those lines. I read an interview where he said that back in the day when Jack Black played Sean Penn's younger brother in the movie "Dead Man Walking" his band Tenacious D played the wrap party and Sean Penn walked up to him after their set and told him that they were really talented musicians and asked him why did they only play comedy songs instead of more serious stuff and he replied that they'd tried doing serious music and felt weird and that it didn't work so they decided to stick to the comedy stuff because that's who they are. I think it's an interesting insight and a valid take because even if the songs are funny and the lyrics and themes are ridiculous, the songs are still well written and they play and sing them like any other serious band. Dude's got pipes and they've been doing this since forever because "Dead Man Walking" is from 1995.
