  • Last week, the US finally passed $61 billion in aid for Ukraine after months of debate and discussion in the US Congress. The news is a relief for Ukraine as it's facing a difficult situation on the battlefield and a series of continued attacks by Russia.
But is the aid coming too late?
And is it really enough to help Ukraine get closer to achieving victory? To answer these questions Kyiv Independent's Liliane Bivings speaks to Kristine Berzina, a managing director at the German Marshall Fund based in Washington DC.

The thing that kills me sometimes is people love to bash the US , but the second something goes wrong everyone is looking here to see what we are going to do to adress the problems. The gift and the curse of being a superpower i guess.

The USA creates money out of thin air. That's why they give it away like candy. It's actually worthless... It's just that the US military makes sure people around the world better use that dollar or else...

The emphasis needs to turn from the argument of continued aid to Ukraine and to a commitment to total victory over the aggressor based on an agreed strategic plan. Ukraine needs help in developing their own defence industry that will turn the tide from dependency to that of self sufficiency. The retired Luitenant General speaking in the following interview provides us with his excellent advice and observations:

If only Biden didn't remove the German sanctions and leave Billions in equipment in the middle east. This wouldn't happen. Duda & Trump get along well. Don't underestimate that relationship

Someone expects 200 billion a year like it’s entitled to it. Meanwhile Europe sits there waiting to be bailed out. This is probably the last large aid package from the us.

You don't really know what you are talking about do you? The vast majority of that "AID" is money spent in American Factories equipping and upgrading the American Armed Forces. The US sends Ukraine 30 year old equipment, old stock it doesn't use and puts a dollar figure to it. So you are basically saying, you don't like stimulating your own economy. Typical AVERAGE American brain.
