what a scene man. . .Denzel is a truly a master, a natural. I love the how alluring mannerisms of the sister too she was fiiiiine lol. One of my favorite scenes in the movie.
I'm sure Spike and Denzel chatted about how important it is to make certain scenes as authentic as possible. Also the Fashions that they wore were similar to the Jazz Musicians during the Heyday of The Cotton Club.
@badname8501 .... I beg to differ....commenting strictly from a cinematically aesthetic perspective. DTRT covered the current social events of its time in a certain neighborhood over a 24-hour time period. The primary reason that most think that it was his best film is because it mirrored the prevailing social tensions of America at that time in its history. Malcolm X covered time and space so far-reaching and layered that one could arguably call it a period piece. The cinematography alone made it far beyond DTRT. Lee himself said it was his most difficult film to make... 'Mo Better Blues' was a better film than DTRT, and as quiet as it's kept, 'School Daze' as a faux musical was just as good a social commentary...with 'Miracle At St. Anna' closely following. His worst effort, for the sake of polarity, hands down was 'Bamboozled'.
I was a Freshman in (H.H.S) in High School when this movie- Mo' Better Blues launched. I played the Alto Saxophone from Middle School to the end of High School. I played Alto Saxophone from 7th Grade through the 12th Grade. Middle School was Band Director Mr. Bonpanni and High School was Band Director Mr. Egerton.
I am like Bleek in the sense that I like this in a routine myself. That way I know what to do and when it needs to be done, etc. Denzel is so brilliant working on cleaning his Trumpet and the like. I'm sure alot of Musicians identify with what he does. I was blown away at the rituals that some Artistic Folks go through to do their work. For example, Elton John & Bernie Taupin never wrote a Song together in the same room at the same time. Then Bjorn Ulvaeus & Benny Anderson (Whose Real Name Is Goran), of ABBA always wrote their Songs in a Cabin on an Island off Of Stockholm, Sweden. Charles Schultz who wrote created Peanuts featuring Good Ole Charlie Brown did all of his Strips with a Fountain Pen and A Bottle Of Ink while Jerry Seinfeld wrote all of the Seinfeld Scripts using Felt Tip Pens made by Bic. I loved Bleek's Loft Style Apartment if that what is is. In The UK it would be known as a Flat.
If I had a woman like that trying to make whoopee with me and I had to choose between the trumpet and her , the trumpet would just become an afterthought. This actress was so damn gorgeous in this movie... Great movie period..... Classic...
The score before he starts reciting chords is Bill Lee. Part of the score that was left off of the soundtrack. Miles Davis song All Blues doesn’t come on until the start making out
I also have noticed that "Real Estate" is a "Theme". Think about it, Dap tries to apologize to Rachel outside her Dormitory Room, then Buggin' Out takes a hissy fit on John outside his Brownstone and Bleek's Home may have been an Old Warehouse converted into Lofts. Alot of Artistic Folks live in places like that.
Spike Lee's Father "Bill Lee" Composed the Movie Soundtrack. The Music you first hear is Unreleased I asked Spike on several occasions if he would release an extended Soundtrack...I'm still waiting on an answer. Sorry all.

that rotating shot at :50 is amazing then the lighting goes up with the doorbell. Ernest Dickerson a legend.

I wish I knew the title of the song that's playing between 0:00 & 0:48. Can't find it anywhere! So BADASS! Love this movie, though!
Me too! I've been looking for it for a long time!

Well the theme is the Mo Better Blues song so it’s probably a fleshed out orchestral version Bill Lee did

The more I watch this movie, I realize that Bleek is the villan of this movie
This is really interesting...I’d love if you elaborated on this idea.
EchoRhythm.TV no he isn’t, bleek is a man who is on his purpose nothing wrong with putting your purpose before anything else.

Let me explain something to you... you all made a huge mistake attacking my children and I.
it is laughable to see denzel trying to act as a musician. great actor, but does not have the talent to pull off a saxophone player.
He played a trumpet not a sax
haters gone hate
mmmh that's a trumpet
Lmfao learn your instruments troll
Zakd trumpet or saxophone all musicians are a little bit nuts/self centred . Denzil did a great job
