I am a black women and a native American and I’ve been to northern Italy this year for New Years and it was such an eye opening experience for me. I didn’t feel this unspoken inferiority for being black (like I sometimes do in America) but instead I was just seen an American and treated as a guest away from home. Which was so refreshing

When you look deeper at this statue and the gestures or movements its making, you start to feel a little sad inside. I mean I don't know about slavery physically but spiritually yes. I could imagine how my ancestors felt being bought and sold like discarded objects. Anyways the stature really brings light to the pain and embarrassment our people had to endure. I cried so hard when I saw this. It just made me think of our ancestors and the pain that they endured. It was just so empowering to me, I couldn't stop the tears from flowing. Especially when I saw her look up. Now I'm crying again just thinking about it. As a black woman in America, I feel so much pain almost every day at work. And seeing this really did something for me. I don't know why they did it, but they did a beautiful job and I'm so glad they did.

This is truly a work of art and deeply touches my heart. It’s interesting in the color they chose for the clothing on the Statue of Liberty. A orange jumpsuit that can be easily depicted as red! A very passionate but color of rage! Yes we are angry but our passion is to break free from bondage. Red also seen by those of us whose blood. sweat. and tears. has built a country that doesn’t even count us as human let alone worthy of a public act of kindness, sympathy or remorse of any kind. I visited Italy I went to Rome, Capri and Naples never felt anything racist towards me over there at all. Everybody was very warm and welcoming.
There were evil people trying to say that this is not the black American woman's struggle and that it wasn't about the slaves. They also didn't want to believe the notion that the statue of liberty was modeled to represent a black woman. Those people continue to lie about our history and our pain. This float was needed.

All you ever hear is African Americans, what about the other black slaves that were scattered world wide, not just to north America, they went through just as much hardships and hatred as the African Americans, and are still living in abject poverty and squalor, who are not even welcomed in some EU countries but they will quickly bring in Eastern European people.
