I have to say I've always had a pretty simple tag. Never wanted to go heavily styled. As a result I've always felt a little ashamed of my tag. But seeing how much you praise straight letters etc has made me feel a lot better about my tag.
Lol oh dude I literally have done tens of thousands of graffiti critiques in my time teaching and let me tell you, every single person who talks bad about simple graffiti hasn't learned the basics and only say those things from ignorance. NO experienced knowledgable artist or graffiti artist would ever talk down on basics. I'm sure you're doing better than all the people who've talked bad or made fun of you
this was really nice going out and seeing some of these because tbh i used to live in a heavy graffiti area but now i live in a pretty dry area so this was good
Do you have anywhere where freight train pull in or park? That's always the one way to go look at some if you live in a rural area. A lot of those spots a really chill too.
@@dailyyy_ @k1348 lol. if your gonna make me point out the obvious well yes silver fills is what I'm talking about. But Silver fills with bright red fills get the job done too. Not as good as say like a dark purple outline though.
Do you have many more videos like this? Where you're just looking at pics of graffiti and talking about what makes the throws/tags good? This video is perfect
I have a question. So I feel like I have a good handstyle and stuff, but let's say I watch a Wekman video or something, or a photo of good handstyle; Is it okay to copy a letter I like? Would that be biting/unacceptable?
Hi Grim, I'm new. I've been sketching since finding your videos at the start of this month but I'm not an artist and never have been. I don't want to bite and want to keep things simple so I've been looking through print font and calligraphy for inspiration and as a way to get started. Is this a good thing or should I be doing everything from scratch? PS You've got me hooked on letters lol
I'd say biting is fine for practice and learning basics, but don't put stuff on walls unless you've gotten your own spin on it. Basic letters are always looked favorably upon. Don't try too hard in the beginning to force style. Learn how to make words flow.
@@Theartistblock That's great. If I manage to do something I'm okay with sharing I'll send you my Instagram for a critique. Keep up the great work. I feel like I'm learning a lot from you man.
@hastefly I don't recommend biting ever. ESPECIALLY to a beginner. Everyone wants to skip the learning stage and just do dope shit . But as a beginner it's too easy to skip if ur biting and already doing dope letters. Biting I can't say is ever cool unless paying homage. Ijs
Glare is a fuckin dope writer tags, throws, burners and massive fuck off rollers, this dude can do it all and has done it all all over the USA,am I tripping or does the Saxo octopus legs spell out Saxo.???
Well I'm not grim but I hope he would agree with this and if he doesn't I apologize just my personal opinion. Letter structure . Get ur letter structure down first. Easiest way to do this is start with straight letters . Perfect that tuen u should add ur extras.. little by time mind you. But first get ur fundamentals down first. Don't move on till u perfect it. See even tho graffiti is always kind of loose with its rules but ur letter still have to look like the letters it represents. Of course there are those who venture out of this and they can put a letter that doesntlook like the letter but u still know. These people are usually graffito kings and so advanced I recommend not even trying till u perfect ur basics . Nobody ever goes from sloppy straight edged to those complicated dopeness. Sorry didn't mean to write so much lolz
ok understand i say this just to give you perspective and not to belittle, remember I'm here to help and to look out for your best interest. If you want the short version skip to the last line but I'm going to give you knowledge that took me years to figure out in the long version. Ok so number one, if you're asking a question like this then you're likely not too experienced yourself, and you're likely newer in the grand scheme of things. In other words know that you're likely not much better than they are and that's ok. Number two, worrying about others having your name is kind of silly, petty, childish, and amateur. The reason it's amateur is because if you're skilled enough then people know your established style and won't confuse you for the toy. They would pose no threat if you were experienced. Its childish and petty / silly because at this point in graffiti every name is pretty much taken, so you can expect THOUSANDS of others to have your same name and plenty of them are better, there is always someone better. hell even the names of legends are starting to get taken even though that's against the rules. On that note, the only names off limits are the names of legends, you're not a legend, meaning your name is up for grabs so you cant be mad if someone else has it. You haven't earned your name yet to make it exclusive. Ill use myself as an example, i used to cross any Grim i saw. As i got older and learned, i realized all the things i just told you. Now people tell me all the time, hey i write grim, ill change my name out of respect for you jon, and i tell them NO use the name, we can both be grim! Im not a legend, i haven't earned exclusivity for this name, and its such a common name its silly to think no one would use it. not to mention my style is unique and advanced enough to be recognized so there is no threat. i give them advice for the name and invite them to use it. in short don't sweat it and move on.
that’s crazy. never knew JESUS SAVES was well known and had rep like that. i seen tags of theirs in random dollar stores of no name towns in pennsylvania.
can someone explatin to me how is it possible that you met those guys so easily and know who they are, but they still dont get in trouble with police? like i know a guy from my town ive never seen, only thing i know was his tag and where it was and i was able to find who he is, i even found his phone number. how is it possible that these writers dont get in trouble?
@@wade3976 lol pretty much what he said. I no longer do it illegally personally but many people who post their stuff online do in fact get caught. when they do their whole social media is used as evidence. many states require the artist to be caught in the act of graffiti to be charged for it.

6:49 that's Cano loc. He's known as the truck God here in NYC. Dude is LITERALLY on every box truck it's crazy.
Loved watching this, handstyles are my favorite part of graffiti and the simplicity and genius into so many of these is so pleasing to watch
i dident notice all the tags in nyc till i started do it my self
Silver and red throws go hard too. Has to be a bright red though.

You should roll through the 4-corners area. It's been popping since the quarantine.

Glad u took my suggestion! Great vid!
So I've started graffiti I'm fairly new. But my town if really small and I'm not sure how to start doing it yet
Start with stickers and tags, then work your way up
Practice where it's not visible. When you got the hang of it, the world is yours... Lol
Thumbnail is hilarious . Almost tempted to throw 1 up myself just for the laugh.
Blessed to live in NY
Thanks again as always Grim, you've helped me improve my shit so much.
Bro this video was awesome u should do more like it where u just tour/spot tags and throws and break em down super entertaining to me haha

Get a Graff tutorial book(s)..blew my mind. Also, grim has great, concise tutorials.. Good luck, bro
Jesus Saves is still incredibly active out here in Chicago, good eye
