She is one of my favorite ships. I was fortunate to sail in her five times, including her final voyage for HAL and then another cruise when she was REMBRANDT. I'm so happy she has been saved. Can't wait to go back to Rotterdam to see her again. They have done a great job in preserving her.
As a long time cruiser I really appreciate a well presented and professional tour of a new ship. This is the best one I have seen of the Rotterdam! We are looking forward to our first cruise in three years and it will be on the Rotterdam! Thank you, Peter for your creative presentation!
Wonderful tour, Peter! Your video included some areas I never got to see and your informed narrative made me appreciate the ship even more than I already do! 😊 Great job!
great video,Peter. I sailed on Rotterdam 6. They really ruined it by turning the Sea View Pool into a wading pool and making those "lanai" cabins that opened on to the deck, so others had limited lounge chair space. Partner and I sailed to Hawaii on Rotter Dam 5--- down my favorite ship. QE 2 was stunning on the outside but a horrible mishmash of Carnaby Street inside---but, still glad I did a trans-atlantic on it. Hope you do a video on Queen Mary 2---loved that ship, never thought another liner would be built after QE 2---many "family" members couples on that ship.
Thank you Peter! I am sailing on this ship April 3rd to the eastern Caribbean and can't wait. Your video well put together with beautiful photography and interesting and informative narration. I too am an avid fan of the older cruise ships. I have been many times on the Olympia/Regal Empress and also once on the Gripsholm/Regent Sea, Zion/Dolphin, S.S. France/Norway, Vaso de Gama/Seawind Crown, Federico C/SeaBreeze, Transvaal Castle/Island Breeze, and many of Carnivals original older ocean liners. I never was able to try the Rotterdam from the 50's, but it is great to know I can still visit her! Mike🚢🚢
I am considering a short trip on Cunard's Queen Anne, which I understand is very similar to the Rotterdam and other Pinnacle ships. Looking at the video I am really missing nice, spacious outside areas to walk around the ship. That obstructed promenade on Deck 3 looks more like a service corridor. Guess I am too old school for those modern ships, despite all the bells and whistles ;-) .
I haven't been included in the latest visits, so can't report on QA with much authority but I will say that the ROTTERDAM's obscured promenades are disappointing. Otherwise, I think she is a nice ship for her size. I do hope to visit QA this year and provide some insights on her design. The VOLENDAM has nice proms if you want to go HAL and the Viking Ocean ships have them, as well, although not lined in teak.
Peter, That was wonderful and a Beautiful ship top to bottom, The last Video I watched of yours was your journey on the Fairstar, Wow what a Difference you saved the best for Last is all the art Wow incredible, I sailed twice on the Statendam to Hawaii many years ago, this is on my list now and THANK YOU
Thank you so much, Bud! So glad you enjoyed both videos. The ROTTERDAM has many nice spaces and a great art collection but I do miss those smaller ships. And, yes, what a difference from the classic FAIRSTAR! Thanks again!
This was excellent Peter Knego, If I could I would take off on her right now. Great views of the ship. I'd feel at home for sure. Can't wait for the next video, hopefully of the AMERIKANIS EMERALD SEAS....
Thanks so much, Deborah! I'm so glad you liked it. Trying to get a bigger audience for the new ships but am always going to be doing the old ones, too. I only have EMERALD SEAS as OCEAN EXPLORER I and will get to her one day. AMERIKANIS, too. Thanks again. :)
Thank you for watching and commenting. Putting the boats on the deck level saves more unobstructed space above for balconies. At least this ship has a fully encircling promenade, which is better than what most ships are offering these days
I totally agree that the slot machines located by the Ocean Bar (across from Rudi's) lack class. People go to these venues to get away from the noise and the crowds. You are paying extra to dine at this wonderful restaurant, especially for its ambiance, and you have to put up with these machines? Which person designed or planned this ought to have their head examined, unless they were in the finance department looking to increase revenue for HAL during 1.5 years it was out of commission due to the pandemic.
I sailed aboard sister ship Koningsdam during her inaugural season. I boarded with an open mind & tried to like her, but it wasn't a match for me on so many levels. Pinnacle class ships don't have that sumptuous feel of Statendam or Rotterdam class. Zaandam will always be my favorite HAL ship. As a three star Mariner, it seems to me that HAL is becoming a shadow of it's former self. I've jumped ship so to speak to Viking Ocean. Those slot machines contaminating the Ocean Bar are unforgivable. Perhaps one of the worst execution of lounge space ever.
Thank you for posting. I understand how you feel about the new versus recent HAL ships. I definitely prefer the size and wraparound proms of the STATENDAM and ROTTERDAM 6 class but this ship does have some very nice spaces. I have been told the slot machines were there for a charter, so hopefully they have been carted away now.
Captain Van Drummel was instrumental in getting HAL to buy back Stephen Card's paintings when the ship was sold. He had been Master of Rotterdam (VI) and requested that painting, as well as Rotterdam (IV) to be installed in the Captain's suite.
The outside cabanas are called The Retreat. You can rent them by the day or by the length of the cruise. They include a table and chairs to eat inside, two lounges, robes, and slippers as well as Avian water spray misters. You are provided bottles of cold water in a top hat along with a basket of fresh fruit daily, and are alsoserved chilled grapes, choc covered strawberries and champagne in the afternoon (between 2-3). There is a mini continental breakfast (pastries, coffee, juices, water) served there in the morning (I have also seen champagne served there in the morning as well in case you want to make a mimosa) and the wait staff will also bring you lunch (you have menus to view and choose from). There is an outside eating area with tables and chairs, as well as lounge chairs outside if you want to catch some of the sun's rays. They are usually a quiet space (those not having a cabana are usually not permitted entry to this area) if you want to get away from the crowds and noise.
@@captainahab6089 thanks for that info that’s good place for pepole who do not like the noice and the crowds that place wil not work for me I like cabin with a balcony with it that’s all I need
Thanks for posting. Everything shot in this video is genuine and done from my own personal perspective with no input from HAL. I have been a regular HAL cruiser for over 3 decades, going back to the ROTTERDAM V. That said, times have changed and the ships have changed. I prefer the smaller ships but I do think the current ROTTERDAM has some nice touches.
It's a beautiful ship the only thing I can't get around it is owned By that worthless piece of dog mess Mickey Erickson who's responsible for the poop cruises
I missed my job at Holland America Line...it was a great experienced to work in a cruise ship...
My first cruise was on the last Rotterdam the grand dame as it was known in 1980 the one that is saved in Holland

Wonderfully done - very informative and detailed! Truly excited about stepping on board this summer - thank you so much for posting:)
I'm so happy you found the tour useful and appreciate your kind comment. Hope you have a fantastic time on ROTTERDAM this summer! Thanks again. :)
This is an amazing tour. Saved it to refer to on our cruise on the Rotterdam in November🤩
Thanks so much, Carole! So glad you enjoyed it! :)
God speed...and bravo to Rotterdam for their expertise and loving care in preservation of one of my favorite Atlantic ocean liners...thanks Peter...
Here's to the real Grande Dame, Jimmy! Long may she serve. :)

Excellent video and narration Peter, very informative, even more impatient to board on 05/29 in Amsterdam ! Franz
Thanks so much Franz. I appreciate your kind words. I think we were both on the 5/29 sailing. I enjoyed it very much. :)
Another wonderful tour!!😉

You didn't show the balcony area for the vista suites which is what we were interested in. 😐
Sorry, but if you scroll to 11:32, the balcony in the Vista Suite I was able to access was pretty much identical to the Veranda Suite shown.
Thank you for posting. Why do so many newer ships have Prominade Decks with obstructed views?

Since I posted this video, I've been told that the slots are there only temporarily for a charter. Let's hope so. :)

Well I imagine it was a lot better than your cruise on the britannis for the very 1st time
Well, yes but to be on BRITANIS was an incredible experience to have.
Britanis was a beautiful ship
Didn’t realize they added those slot machines near the restaurants. Seems a bit tacky tbh.
Love the library though!
The slot machines were only there for a charter. They are thankfully gone now. :)
@@midshipcinema oh thank goodness. Wonder what kind of charter it was 🤔
Can you tell me does the thermal spa have steam baths?
It has several steam options, including a Hamam but I don't have a specific list of which types are there.
I can’t get into it. Cunard is the only line for me.
Thanks. We all have our favorites.
Is the Rotterdam VI Stephen Card painting not on board of this Rotterdam?
I'm told VI and IV are actually in the captain's office.
@@midshipcinema Thanks for the update. Excellent video! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Gambling on a cruise ship is a fool's errand
What is a cabana
As shown in the video, a covered private sitting area with loungers that guests can rent out.

Don't be hoodwinked by this video. The bean counters have taken over HAL. I will never sail this brand again..3 strikes!
