@@TheBirdingVoyage Ended up spending half a day at Madera. Got a great view of an elegant trogon which went down as one of my most cool birding experiences ever haha.
I’ve lived in Green Valley (20 minutes from Madera Canyon ) for 15 years. I distinctly remember my first trip to the canyon and nabbing a good 10 or so lifers, just like you. Wonderful place!
I watched your Arizona videos last year for a whirlwind trip I took in May. Taking friends at the end of April this year. Your various SE Arizona videos were a big help last year, and now that I am more familiar, you will have helped all 4 of us this year! Your videos are informative without being too wordy, and you found enough birds that have us all anxious to be there! Thanks so much for your willingness to share all you find!!
We are thinking of building some cabins for bird watchers in Arizona! We live in the mountains above payson. We have some fun birds here like evening gross beaks! This year we have a nest full of red tailed hawks and many more!
Thanks for sharing this video. You were exactly where we would like to be in the near future! . Appreciate the opportunity to take this birding hike with you as we endure one more winter in Ohio. Enjoyed your quiet voice simply naming the birds. However, you might want to check the correct pronunciations for Gila (Hee"la) and Grosbeak (with a long O in first syllable).
This is a great video - really appreciated the information. This was just the right amount of detail for slightly more than a casual birder but not a super serious birder who 'chases' rare, migrating and endemics. Having not yet been to this area, it gives me a great perspective on what to expect in environment as well. Thanks so much!
Based on some of those lifers, that turkey might have been as well. That was a Gould's turkey, which have a pretty small distribution in the U.S. Nice video, great place to go.
I stumbled upon this video and it is great! If you're ever in SE AZ again let us at Tucson Audubon know and we'll show you around. Also, looks/sounds like your gnatcatcher at the beginning is a Black-capped Gnatcatcher, they nest along the Proctor trail and it's a great bird. Your mystery bird could be a Lark Bunting going through molt?
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm hoping to get back there within the next year or so. That's very cool about the Black-capped Gnatcatcher! And yes I agree that the mystery bird is the Lark Bunting. Thanks for watching!
It was an amazing trip! Totally worth it and there were plenty of other birds I didn't see. Had I spent a few more days out there I'm sure I would have seen a lot more. Thanks for watching!
1:48 & this sounds an awful lot like a Black-capped gnatcatcher (longer bill also makes me think this), which is an amazing find. I should also say thank you for the great video!
Nice work Evertt
Thank you!
Thank you!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Headed to Arizona in May, I live in the Midwest so I’m going to see a large number of lifetime species. I can’t wait!
That's exciting! Enjoy your trip!

That's awesome! I went in April and unfortunately missed the Trogan. Glad you had a great time!
@jackpanozzo6004 When was in May? Mid May? Just wondering when is the best time to get as much birds as I can. Thanks
@@rockymanilow5115 Around May 20th or so.

I’m doing this trail on Sunday. I’m so excited
Awesome! It is such a cool place. I hope you have a great time!
Great shots and always amazing birds in Madera Canyon. You’ll have to go back to get the Trogon!
Thank you! Yeah I was bummed to have missed the Trogon.

I didn't know there was such a thing as a Gould's Turkey! I guess that is a lifer too! Haha
@@TheBirdingVoyage Technically a subspecies but of the five in the U.S., they have the smallest range.
Very cool!
Gould’s is a subspecies of Wild Turkey
Thanks for excellent views of Madera's birds. Wish I was there right now. I think you'll want to know: Gila is pronounced HE-la.
Thank you for watching and thank you for the Gila help!

Wonderful! I really enjoyed that Broad-billed Hummingbird at 6:17! Thank you for sharing your talent!
Thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching. I hope your trip goes well!
Amazing video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Those birds are so cool!!!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent birding in Arizona. Most are all new species for me comparing with Florida. I should consider a birding trip to Arizona.

Follow Thomas You should def check out AZ - last trip we saw 12 species of hummingbirds - many of them at Santa Rita lodge.
Great video again ! Keep twitching !
Beautiful shoots!
Awesome video! Great day. Enjoyed the great shots of all the birds.

Really enjoy your birding videos. What camera are you using? I think a camera could help with some of my IDs especially when visiting a new area.
Thank you for watching! I am using a Nikon P950. I really like it because of the zoom capabilities. Glad you have enjoyed the videos.
Bird at 4:29 Bells vireo, I believe.
Yes you are correct! Thanks for watching!
Nice. You did this in August? Are this many varieteis there all year round.
I think the summer and migration is the best time to go to see the most birds.
@@TheBirdingVoyage Considering a lot of bird species migrate??? In NJ hummers leave for the winter. Maybe not that faar south. Thanks.
Yes lots of migrants through SE Arizona
The “Rufous-crowned Sparrow” is actually a Chipping
Thank you for letting me know and thanks for watching!
3:55 Another Rufous-winged Sparrow I think
Thanks for your input!
Mystery bird at 2:05 looks like lark bunting
Thank you!
Muy bueno, te saludo desde España
Gracias por ver el video! Me da gusto que le gustó.
Great place, huh? It's Heela Woodpecker, by the way.
It is an awesome place! And thanks for the info on how to pronounce the Gila!
2:07 Lark Bunting -- molting male
Thank you!
2:35 Looks like a Painted Bunting (female) albeit a little bit of a weird bird
Thank you!
I gotta go!
It's an amazing spot!
Gila is pronounced with a H not a G
Thank you!
