Shelf clouds are fascinating 😍 We have been getting them a lot lately in Delaware. Our recent one yesterday was truly terrifying and beautiful. I literally thought there was a wall cloud hidden in there because of how green, dark and intensifying the clouds were getting.
This town is Charleston, West Virginia, where in live 5 or 6 yrs ago we had a "Derecho" go through a lot of lightning & high wind. Sounds like you weather, so you know what a Derecho is.
I saw the best shelf cloud ever today!! Just the structure on it was amazing and you could even see a slight swirl on the smooth leading edge but below it was very ragged scud claws just stretching down...and the lightning CGs were intense!
I remember watching one of these things come straight at me while I was playing center-field in a Junior College baseball game in Concordia, Missouri way back when. Being a California boy, I had never seen anything like it... everything was calm until that cloud rolled over us...the temperature dropped like 20 degrees and the wind / rain was instantaneous... needless to say, that was it for the game lol
This video is of my hometown Charleston, West Virginia. We get some terrible storms, mainly from the west, but the bad ones come from the South. We had a "Derecho" 5 or 6 yrs ago that was bad it actually hit Columbus Ohio and then hit us. What a storm. No tornadoes a lot of lightning and high wind.
This video where I live Charleston, West Virginia 5 or 6 yrs ago we had a "Derecho" go through, WOW. A lot of lightning and high wind, very little rain.
This video Charleston, West Virginia where I live, 5 or 6 yrs ago we had Derecho go through. We had no idea what a Derecho was, we do now. Very high wind and a lot of lightning, very little rain.
Today in Charelston they are having terrible weather, and it is moving up into several counties North to East. It is said to be moving up to 60 mph and said to go into a save place in your home. Just saying as a warning so people can be safe today.
It’s called a shelf clouds. It forms when cold air from the storm pushes against cloud and warm air in front of the shelf cloud circles around it. Giving it its shape
At certain scenes looks as if the clouds are actually coming out of the ground on those hills. If it wasn't for the lightning that would have been a cool thing to be in the middle of a forming shelf cloud. Cool video. Hope this spring here in TX is full of these type storms.
This is my hometown Charleston, West Virginia and we can have some terrible thunder & lighting storms. Being a Mid-Atlantic State we get storms usually from the west and south.
i just want to know.. it's normal cloud and thunder strom which is every year happen? since years before 90's or 70's... or it just only come out several years latest?
I love watchin storms, but for some reason here in Akron, they usually pass around us alot, but when they dont, we get these terrible ones were things get hairy really fast.. Can't ever have a nice calm storm 😅😑
Wrong. In aviation and meteorological terminology, this is a squall line.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squall_lineA squall line (also known as a quasi-linear convective system or QLCS) is a line of thunderstorms forming along or ahead of a cold front.
Roll cloud. A roll cloud (Cloud Atlas name volutus) is a low, horizontal, tube-shaped, and relatively rare type of arcus cloud. They differ from squall lines by being completely detached from other cloud features. Roll clouds usually appear to be "rolling" about a horizontal axis.
A storm wall once came where I lived in southern ohio and once it flew over us I had to help 2 of my friends home because they were crying their eyes out. And they like storms. THATS HOW BAD IT WAS! But I stayed outside (until my hair started to raise up so I ran like hell back inside)
If you could stand (or fly/hover) right where the shelf cloud passed you, would you notice a difference in temperature as it passed, (from one side to the other?)
This video is my hometown Charleston West Virginia, we get a lot of lightning and thunderstorms. Charleston is in the Kanawha Valley surrounded by mountains and that makes the thunder double the sound.
There must have been a tornado warning right? Because not only were the conditions favorable for a tornado (tornado watch) but the storm had rotation. And rotation=tornado warning.
There was a funnel cloud in this one but it didn't form but it was strong enough to make a tornado normal they dont but this one was stronger than most or I'm say saying one had a tornado warning
I know is almost 5 years ago,but this is a perfect example of a timelapse that rocks... Thank you Mr an Robinson
Greetings from Oslo,Norway

When it comes to supercell thunderstorms, the darker, the better
I 100% agree with you especially where I live where the darker a storm the longer and more spectacular it is.
TheBudgetGunCollector you are so right tho
TheBudgetGunCollector When it comes to scorpions, the bigger the better.

We once had a storm in our neck of the woods that moved almost as fast as these ones, only non-lapsed (O_O)
You now this is in time laps right
"It was a dark and stormy night"...
Or something like that.
Excellent footage here! Those Shelf Clouds were just racing across the skies!!!

in the us these types of thunderstorms are called super cells and they can produce tornadoes

I seen some shelf clouds During 2022 I also had seen shelf clouds During the night, they didnt produce tornadoes really
Awesome timelapses!! I love shelfclouds, especially like this ones :O
This video where I live Charleston, West Virginia 5 or 6 yrs ago we had a "Derecho" go through, WOW. A lot of lightning and high wind, very little rain.
Those are the most dangerous ones, as they would be the most likely to trigger a wildfire, aren't they?
Simply Amazing footage! Just hope our storm season is just as good! :) But fantastic footage :)
I love Thunderstorms Rain is so peace ful and the sound of the Thunder but lighting is scary but beautiful !
This video Charleston, West Virginia where I live, 5 or 6 yrs ago we had Derecho go through. We had no idea what a Derecho was, we do now. Very high wind and a lot of lightning, very little rain.

When I was about to leave New Jersey, there was a severe thunderstorm warning and a tornado
At certain scenes looks as if the clouds are actually coming out of the ground on those hills. If it wasn't for the lightning that would have been a cool thing to be in the middle of a forming shelf cloud. Cool video. Hope this spring here in TX is full of these type storms.
great video, beautiful shelf cloud :)!
Awesome 👍🏻
Since these shots obviously came from more than one storm, I'm guessing that Charleston,W. Va. regularly gets some pretty significant weather events.
Gorgeous! thanks :)
Me: look it an hurricane!
Thunderstorm cloud: *hold my lightning bolt*
U know a hurricane is nothing but thunderstorm clouds right?
Nice video!
Great compilation. Beautiful in a creepy sort of way.
I love severe thunder storms if they are not too severe or dangerous !

I have seen a shelf cloud worse then this, at my house. It produced 70-80 MPH gusts.
beautiful shelf clouds !!!! I like !!!
The shelf clouds remind me of the movie the mist! Creepy
At the beginning of the that view is pretty with all of the buildings and highways and stuff
Shelf clouds forms in thunderstorm
Tornado ally: our non mountain areas get more severe thunderstorms than anywhere in USA
Charleston West Virginia: is that a fact?
That’s crazy
I love watchin storms, but for some reason here in Akron, they usually pass around us alot, but when they dont, we get these terrible ones were things get hairy really fast.. Can't ever have a nice calm storm 😅😑

The accurate terminology is called a squall line.
Are roll clouds and squall lines the same thing?
Daniel Mehta SHELF CLOUDS

Sir Christopher nope. Did not see any squall lines. All looked shelf clouds from supercell thunderstorms

A storm wall once came where I lived in southern ohio and once it flew over us I had to help 2 of my friends home because they were crying their eyes out. And they like storms. THATS HOW BAD IT WAS! But I stayed outside (until my hair started to raise up so I ran like hell back inside)
Scary Weather! Pleased one i got on video was just a waterspout! though it was huge and did come close to our condo.
Wow, people sure drive fast in Charleston.
For a few mins, I thought some of these were tsunami's, idk why thought. The darker and scarier they are the better.
If you could stand (or fly/hover) right where the shelf cloud passed you, would you notice a difference in temperature as it passed, (from one side to the other?)
It does
I literally go to Charleston like 2 times a week
They sure do drive fast there!
it got really dark
I love thunderstorms even when they are monsters severe thunderstorm one time I had one and I *panic* so bad I didn’t know what to do
Nice clouds and moving faster! Maybe the wind speed was around 80 km/h....
Yeah, I think it's probably moving at, at least 90-100kph but I'm not a storm chaser or meteorologist so I don't know.
I really feel those cars aught to slow down a bit. What do they think this is? The Indy 500?
it's sped up genius haha
Wayne Phillips XD
TheSportsFanatic just imagine if this was how fast it was though xD
I loved weather when I was 3
I love squall line thunderstorm
So much thunderstorms
Unlimited Lightning Intense
This video is my hometown Charleston West Virginia, we get a lot of lightning and thunderstorms. Charleston is in the Kanawha Valley surrounded by mountains and that makes the thunder double the sound.
I remember this I got a picture of it but sadly my phone soon after broke and is now inaccessible.
2018???
I like for the people who are driving in these
now i know what severe thunderstorms are they are supercels
Amazing
Tornado?

Sometimes yes and other times no with shelf cloud u don't see many tornados :D
