TBDM took more of its influence from European bands - the likes of At the Gates, Dark Tranquility, Carcass, Darkane etc. Trevor was a super nice guy; everyone in the scene misses him. He was a massive supporter of the underground scene and did all he could to help promote other up-and-coming bands.

I think I heard Trevor describe TBDM as a cross between At the Gates and Morbid Angel or something along those lines

Its true that you hear some in common with Shadow of Intent, but its because Black Dahlia Murder is a inspiration to Shadow of Intent.
Black Dahlia Murder is actually a inspiration to many, many Deathcore bands. Trevor Strnad was also known to regularly promote and tour with smaller/upcoming extreme bands like Deathcore, Death Metal, Deathgrind etc.
Like for example, the guitarist from Shadow of Intent, Chris Wisemen has named Black Dahlia Murder as one of his biggest influences as a songwriter/composer.
And Benn Duerr, the Vocalist of Shadow of Intent made a list for Revolver called "10 Albums that made me" and put the Deflorate album on his list. Which is the album the song you're reacting to is from. And also credits it for his vocal style and approach to songwriting.

Speaking of melodic death metal, I was just listening to, maybe, my favorite melodic death metal song of all time. Beyond Creation - Earthborn Evolution. You have to check this song out. That bass solo at the end is INSAINE!

I've seen them live. They played 19 songs and ripped the roof off. Necropolis was indeed fun. They're so fast and tight ., can't wait to see how they are live w Brian now at lead vox (he put the guitar down) and Ryan back in the band WITH Brandon should be absolutely disgusting melodically.

I remember I wanted to see The Black Dahlia Murder back in October of 2021 for the "Up From The Sewers" Tour at Toronto. But stupid pandemic policies ruined of course. Then several months later hearing Trevor Strnad's death was very tragic. :(
From albums like Nocturnal, Everblack and Nightbringers are my top 3 favorites. R.I.P Trevor Strnad.

I know I sound like a broken record right now but I also got to share the stage with these guys a few years ago. Before the show I walked up to Trevor, introduced myself, told him I was playing that night and dropped a handful of edibles in his hand. He immediately without thinking threw all of them in his mouth. Good thing I wasn't trying to poison the dude. To take care of future video comments, I spent nearly 20 years playing with high level metal bands. Even played with Whitechapel and All Shall Perish when they were still local bands. Your channel keeps getting better and better. TBDM is amazing and they have an amazing catalogue. Over the years I really fell in love with the Abysmal album. Keep up the great work Kaiya! RIP Trevor.

I saw these guys in 2007 in a tiny venue here in the UK, it had no actual stage, no barrier, and there were about 300 people in the crowd packed wall to wall and it was fucking brutal. Loved every second.

TBDM is one of those bands that gave inspiration to tons more. There are so many newer bands that basically does TBDM-worship music. The bands you mentioned were probably influenced by TBDM a lot. Infant Annihilator and Shadow of Intent for sure got inspiration from them.

Trevor was truly a legend. An absolutely great guy with a huge heart. Also one of the greatest supporters of up and coming metal bands.
As far as my favorite album it will always be Nocturnal. It's dark and melodic. I feel like it is when the band really hit their stride.
They may not have been the first melodic death metal band but they really brought that more occult and dark feel to their lyrics and guitars all while still being goofy and relatable. Many people early on confused them with metalcore as they kind of came up around that same time and still had that melodic style you here in bands like As I Lay Dying and August Burns Red. But over time with each release it became clear they were way more death metal adjacent with their punishing drums, solos and lack of "core" breakdowns.
As far as impact they've basically been considerd one of the greats in the melodeath community and just a huge pillar in the metal community at large. They pioneered their own sound unique from other melodic metal bands and have influenced many bands after them.

The reason i play and write death metal now and they will always be my favorite band . RIP trevor you are dearly missed !

Trevor was the best person in Metal and a really nice honest dude. Always remembered you if had spoken once 2 years ago, gave props to the fans. Garnered a community of positive metal and helped smaller bands get noticed. He had issues with mental health for a long time and that is probably a big reason why he gave others so much love, he knew how it was to feel alone and depressed. He gave more of himself than any other person I know of.
