In this situation they're basically just there for show. It's all ceremonial and symbolic. They're not exactly going to charge a terrorist with their horse in the event of an attack, that's what the armed police are there for.
You **really** don't want those troopers to have to use that saber on you. Since the UK's pull out from Afghanistan was a year or so before the US', I suspect that few of the troopers are 'battle-hardened'. Their NCO leadership almost certainly is, however. Besides, you don't want pissed off combat veterans with PTSD on public duties anyway. Scares the children 😁 [please note that a] I'm a combat veteran myself and b] I mean that mostly in good-natured jest]

Queen Elizabeth II has provoked a reset hopefully of respect, love of GOD, LOYALTY, HUMAN DIGNITY, UNITY OF A FREE Sovereign Country. I have never witnessed a calmness, manners and respect for all people of the United Kingdom and the British Commonwealth. The tradition, reenactment of regal ceremonies is so thing to behold. If only our society could emulate the formality of the Pom’s! The previous countries that belonged to the Empire are doing very, thank you very much. The discipline of the British Services ceremonial parades by the Royal Navy, Army and Airforce. Are second to none. And three hearty cheers for Her Majesty the Queen.
I'm guessing you're a 'royalist' ... I'm not!! I don't believe in God either. I admired the Queen for the job she did and how she went about doing it .. but to me .. Australia should now be moving to become a Republic. The problem is, we need to be very careful about the model we choose and ensure that the appropriate checks & balances and safeguards are legislated. Australia has been standing on its own two feet since 1905 and it's about time we left home!! That doesn't mean we have to break our ties with the family though.

As a proud cavalry trooper myself, I always delight in the training and discipline of the horses themselves. They know where to be, the pace to get there at, and the interval they should be in when they stop. It's almost as if the riders are superfluous. Mind you, I know very little about how to ride or care for a horse. My spot at Fiddler's Green will be in the tank park around back, where I'll get to break tank track for eternity. Cuz, you know, that'll be fun... 😁

Yes, I like being a cavalry trooper, but there are several line infantry units that I wouldn't throw shade at. The 27th 'Wolfhounds' Infantry, for example, or the 7th Marine Infantry. These are units with proud histories going back 100 years or more, that average everyday people made famous by doing incredible things. And every army in the world has troops like this in them.
They still have their duty to perform. It is their sworn duty to defend the Royal grounds and the Crown at all costs. They will be known as the King's guard. Well done to these Guard for passing inspection 🙂

Being smaller is an advantage in modern warfare because a smaller target is harder to shoot at. These guards are soldiers serving ceremonial duties, they'll never need to use a sword, but if they did they'd be mounted on a horse so a small size would once again be an advantage. These are soldiers who have served in war, have some fucking respect you old gammonface.

Like, some have the white feather things on the helmets and some have the red, some are wearing armour etc etc. Who is who and what who does what for what reason? 🤗👍
They are all Household Cavalry, the white helmet plumes wearing red tunics are Life Guards, the red helmet plumes wearing dark tunics are the Blues and Royals. Life Guard horses have white sheepskin saddles, Blues and Royals have black sheepskin saddles. That's the easiest way to tell which regiment the horse belongs to if his rider isn't on him.
I'm not a royalist myself, but Elizabeth was born into duty and was a lovely lady, totally majestic. She was civilisation itself. Best monarch since her lovely father and Henry the 5th in my own personal opinion. Pity her government's didn't match her wisdom and grace.
