- The blackest show on television is no more. NBC is calling a wrap on “Brother from Another” with Michael Smith and Michael Holley. The pair made the announcement recently and in doing so said the quiet part out loud. NBC specifically designed the show as a response to George Floyd’s death, as an attempt to drive black subscribers to Peacock. Is this another sign that America’s woke era is falling apart at the seams?

Its only within the black community we make heroes our of our own worst people. Personally, I would never think of this guy as a societal victim. Thats why it makes no sense to me why he is being celebrated by the national media.
I'm old, non black. Decades ago, pre and post civil rights, blacks respected the average black man. Black men, who endured hell on earth, got up every morning, conformed to white dress codes, rules, paid their bills. Never cussed in public, aired dirty linen in front of the Man. Raised respectful children who came to school scrubbed clean and ready to learn. Those men made less, denied opportunities and remained classy. Those men were highly desired for marriage. In my younger days, I can still hear black daddies rejecting "Shiftless, no accounts" we need to go back to honoring the hard, daily work of the average man.

It doesn't seem they learned anything about why black shows weren't making it. I can't believe they made it this long pandering strictly to black people. They make up 11 to 13% of the country... not a profitable audience.

TSC was exposed on Twitter/X for having a woke/DEI agenda within their company such as having DEI programs and donating money to left wing political organizations among other things. This led to an organized boycott which caused the stock price of the company falling. Due to the customer backlash, the company announced this week that they would get rid of their DEI initiatives within the company and stop donating to left wing political organizations to appease the boycott.
I love this message from Whitlock. But the sad truth is, if these talented journalists had tried to do anything else, like use their intelligence and go beyond their "black-ity blackness", they would've been called "Uncle Tom" by the audience that DID watch them. Their black "colleagues" would've pounced on them for not being down with the "cause". The show probably would've died even sooner.

I think Michael Smith's narrative has already been written in the minds of many men, black men specifically. I think his past association with Jemele Hill and support of many things she champions that men didn't necessarily agree created disinterest in what would be his target audience for future shows. He needs to reinvent himself if he's not being true to who he is because, as it stands, no one I know is checking for him.

What does it say, when we have the democrats hoisting George Floyd as our role model and hero, about us a blacks? We have so many prominent blacks that we would want representing us a black Americans, and we celebrate George Floyd? Are we that simple-minded? I hope not.
What’s simple minded is your understanding of why people of every color and hew responded to the murder of George Floyd. Floyd wasn’t celebrated as a hero but a symbol of the well known fact of police brutality. Symbolism is a much used methodology of bringing awareness to a whole host of issues people wish to address. It might be hard to hear this when you live in an echo chamber but you should give it a try.
