You will never fire an airbag off by unplugging it, The yellow male connector has an orange clip (or green or blue) that you need to pull up first, that releases the locks but also shorts the contacts together, as you pull the connector out of the bag it has another bus bar that shorts its contacts together so both the wire and bag are shorted on their own two wires.....BUT when it comes to diagnosing a problem you need to know you can't do continuity checks along a wire (clock spring) when disconnected as the other side of the circuit is shorted to it. Of course a thin sliver of plastic and a magnifying glass (at my age) and you can bypass the safety shorts for testing, but use a diag tool to get ohms reading from the bags rather than a £3 multimeter from eBay
Hi George, what if i removed my steering wheel spokes with Cruise control functions and tried to replace them with spokes without functions? Will there be some kind of "insertion" issue due to cables and stuff?? Will they fit? Im looking for the reverse procedure 😂😂
Great Video, really wanting to do this to my R56 mini as well. Do you have the part number for the what you described as the steering switch as I believe mine has the same options? Any additional help would also be appreciated.
What part number are you using I have the same options as you and can you see without taking the steering wheel off if it's the correct one or not. Cheers
Hi, am I correct in thinking that baring the steering wheel buttons, and the multifunction part, that all the wiring and other components are pre-installed?
What’s not to get used to? Haha I can’t stand people on the motorway constantly slowing down and then speeding up, makes it a nightmare when trying to overtake
Question , I’m doing a retrofit xenon lights On a mini r56 2012, I added 522 to the list then to the FRM and CAS , low beam works but not high beams, is there any other module that I need to code?, thanks
@@GeorgeAusters Sorry, I rewatched the video, you say your SZL has not MFSW options, but I can't see when you explain how you know what option it has...
Anything newer than 94'ish without cruise control just doesn't compute with me. Can the Topdon code/activate new MAF for E46 M47? That's kinda where I'm at with the E46 I got for 450 quid 🤣
@@GeorgeAusters Well I have pre-facelift E46, when you change MAF on those you have to recode for the new MAF. Usually that means downloading DIS and use a Windows XP/Windows 7 machine connected to the OBD2. Unless these new OBD2 softwares can do it?
"Hey George, great video! I'm excited to upgrade my steering wheel too, but struggling to find a garage in Essex. If anyone knows a place, please drop a comment below. Thanks!"
George, can you tell me how I would know IF my Steering Angle Sensor is MFSW compatible? I have a 2009 R57 with Paddle Shift, NO MFSW controls, NO Rain Sensor and NO Zenons. My Steering Angle Sensor is labeled 6131-3451910 Production Month 7/2009. I see the new part number on this is now 6131-9253777. I don’t want to source and buy the new angle sensor if it is not needed. I have ordered MFSW controls 32309200098. Thanks for the help!
Is it me or did you not include the cruise control parts in your list of things used?? That’s like having a roast dinner but with no food, only a plate

What was the part number of the SZL you installed?
Hey, I can’t find part numbers on real oem for the steering wheel angle sensor. How can you tell if you have the right one?

Exactly.. we’ll explained!

actually Pat ma shants at the nuclear bomb airbag bit 😧😂
😂
This time I did not jump out of my skin because I knew it was coming. Still makes me smile though.
😁
It would be cool to see a video of retro fitting things like the powerfold wing mirrors 🤔 not sure if you’ve got them already on this or not!

Correct!
I’ve had cruise control in many of my cars, but never use, can’t get used to it.

Hello! Thanks for the video! How do you know what options are on a SZL?
I say in the video
@@GeorgeAusters Sorry, I rewatched the video, you say your SZL has not MFSW options, but I can't see when you explain how you know what option it has...
Hey George what are you doing with the mini? Are you going to keep it?
I’m giving it to a family member👍🏻
Good video George 😊
Thanks 👍
Strange that the SZL has the connectors on for the buttons, even through its not got internal wiring!

Yes
how did you know what steering angle sensor was correct
Wedding ring mate😂😂
Do you know it is posible to do the xenon head lights retrofit programming for my r56 with that scan tool ? Thanks
Yes it is
Awesome, thanks

Funny.. on the e91 you called it a mod… on the mini its a retrofit 🤣
Would this work for a standard r56 cooper?
Yes
Nice video George but it’s not a cheap upgrade if you don’t have equipment that will go to coding level.
Which Scan tool are you using it is not ISTA..
Linked in the description mate
