  • Hi there!
Another year and another doll figurine made for my sister's birthday!
When she was a child she just loved horse riding and her favorite horses were always the palomino ones.
So I made her a palomino centaur!
It was also a perfect opportunity to practice my sculpting skills.
Hope you will enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed making this girl.
    Have fun watching!
    My awesome intro made by:

The horse sculpture I used as a reference:
    one-horse.net/k...
    Music:

This turned out amazingly well! The sculpted horse body was totally the way to go. I think you should do more centaurs. Maybe with a deer body instead to match how slender the Monster High bodies are? I'm also looking forward to more of your fairies. : 3

I started watching you after getting addicted to Dollightful and I was instantly taken with how differently you approach things vs how she does it. Your work is very different -posed vs articulated, the faceups are done differently, techniques are different, different media etc. But you both tell a story with your work and it's all art. I love what you do and how much detail goes into your art. I hope some day you can stop being so hard on yourself and your talents because you are amazing!

Each time I see you customize dark skinned dolls I’m always so inspired and happy with the colour variation you add to the skin. So many artists make darker skin look dull but you always add colour variation in all the right places. You’ve come a long way with your customizations!

The carnage! Decapitation, removal of legs and an arm, ( a boob job!) the agony and ecstasy of getting the sculpted horse armature hind to connect, this was a full epic drama! Watching everything come together was emotional and because it was for your sister, a labour of love. There's no way she doesn't love this as much as we do. There's nothing wrong with your sculpting, in my humble opinion, it's bloody marvellous 😀 Best birthday gift ever.

Not only more creative, she manages to find more and more detailed with each new piece as well! It's truly astounding! I love that she reroots the hair. Everyone else just makes a wig. Wigs are not any easier and they don't save time. I don't understand why anyone wouldn't just go the reroot route.

    3. Watching you mix kitty litter and glue is always so satisfying

    5. I’m really glad I subscribed to your channel! Watching you work is relaxing and you have a soothing voice

She came out so amazing! I love the dynamic pose and the war paint, she looks like a Celtic warrior princess. According to the Romans, the Celtic warrior women were fearless, and went into battle bare-chested to intimidate men. Hard to say how much of that is true, and how much is Roman propaganda, but it makes for a very powerful and dramatic image.

Oh, my, she turned out so beautiful. I love her war paint and for your very first time, I think the horse body turned out pretty dang accurate. The only thing I would've done differently is placing her tail behind her similar to her hair, instead of in-between her legs, since it covers the right back leg a little, but that's just a personal preference of mine. I'm sure your sister will love her birthday gift 💕🎂🎁
Also, I just love those little unrelated clips you always put in the end! I always stick around to see them ^^

    • @CatmeleonStudio
      @CatmeleonStudio  2 года назад +2

      Thank you :)
The placement of the tail I based on an idea that she is about to land on her four legs and stopped to freely trow the spear (I thought it could be hard to take a good swing while galloping and looking backward :P). And even if her movement is suddenly stopping - just like in a car when you pull on the breaks - her hair and tail are still moving forward. That was the idea :P But as I said - I was experimenting a little :P

Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite videos on the channel because of the decision you made to make the body of the horse by yourself, that is without a doubt to be admired.

I liked Horseback riding ever since I was little my dad has a friend who owns a stable with a couple of horses I go there sometimes and ride some but I stopped going there as I grew up because I’d always be the only girl there and they’re all grown man and it’s always awkward because I can’t ride the horse
unsupervised since I was little so after an hour or something of me riding then i have to sit and just be quiet so my dad can talk to his friends and smoke I kinda miss it🥲
Edit: I miss horseback riding not the awkwardness😅

I mean, as someone who has taken a veterinary science class before, that is a VERY good horse sculpture, especially considering that this is your first time sculpting something. This is normally the part where I'd give out ways to "refine" what was made, but you honestly can't do that with a horse. It really depends on which horse breed you were aiming for. For example, if you were aiming for a Clydesdale, it would have to be very muscular and very big, where as an Arabian breed would be very thin and sleek looking, as well as having a more prominent separation curve between the horse's ribcage and pelvic area. The only real thing I would say is that I think Palomino coats might be lighter, but honestly that's a nonissue.
(and I totally agree with not wanting to cover the nipples. It feels like a lot of guidelines everywhere are punishing artists for being able to create realistic art/works for no reason other than to "protect younger viewers" or some other unrelated reasons.)

I've been customizing tabletop miniatures for ages, and I'd like to offer my little two cents to deal with those body carvings: liquid green stuff (or any other fluid epoxy putty/acrylic filler)
it's rather cheap and easy to find, basically every modeling supplier carries it.
works wonders when you have to fill small gaps or imperfections.
apply it on the sanded piece with an old brush (the smaller the better), then damp the brush to smooth it in place.
sand it lightly again after it has cured, then paint as usual.

    • @CatmeleonStudio

Thank you :) I was thinking about using apoxie sculpt to filled those gaps... but maybe I will check out that liquid green stuff too!

Honestly... I kind of want to suggest challenging yourself when you next do this doll model by *not* erasing all the marks. Instead use the scars for the story of the doll. I thought you were going to go that way with a centaur doll, cool job with getting rid of those, but I'd love to see that kind of contrast of how you used it. Use it as tattoos? Paint it as battle wounds? Scarification? A mix of the two?
It's all good if it doesn't fit your art style I just had never seen those markings before. They're pretty. I've only discovered most of the monster high dolls through channels like yours. lol
PS: Because I forgot to mention, your art is *incredible* .

    • @CatmeleonStudio

This is not a bad idea. But there's a "but" :P The deal with me is that I am making a design and I am picking a doll that suits the design, not the revers. Dolls are just canvas for me :) they are not a source of inspiration by themselves :P
So yeah... that would be a challenge for me XD

I have a suggestion for a good source of gaining knowledge in sculpting on armatures; go watch some videos by a youtuber called “North of the Border” every video of his involves sculpting figures on armatures, he’s a master at it and I’ve learned quite a lot from his content, your centaur’s Horse booty is really really well done, but if you’d like to get even better, watching some of North of the Border’s videos is my advice lol
    (Great customisation btw)

Oh Wow!..I wish I was not as skilled at sculpting as you are. She looks Exquisite on her own and the sculpting is superb. I have seen the others done from the ready made centaurs in these dolls ,but they do not look as proportional as yours does. This is so beautifully sculpted right down to the hooves.I love the choice of hair, much nicer than the first choice. But what I think I love the most about your dolls is that they are more of a figurine rather than just a doll . They are all very special and a beautiful piece of art work too.🥰

Why don't you make a video making a doll with ideas from your subscribers?

    • @CatmeleonStudio
      @CatmeleonStudio  2 года назад +1

I'm always making them in April :) Last year I made a Bone Fairy and this year - a Bumblebee Fairy. My subscribers are very creative and they are suggesting a lot of ideas. The thing is - I have tons of ideas of my own and those are the ones I really want to make and share with you. My schedule is like 6months long... and those are only the concepts that I already have a finished design for and for which I already started the dolls preparations :D And there are way more of those that I know I really want to make but don't have a specific design or doll yet :P
Maybe one day, for some celebration, I will make a survey or something, or, like someone suggested: a design challenge (I've seen Poppen Atelier made something like this). We will see what future will bring :)

U r so stick stanking awsome at what u do. she is a beaut.
odd request but can u make a beefy gal? it always kind of bothered me that traditional female dolls are dainty and smol. can u create a warrior fairy with a muscular build?

    • @CatmeleonStudio
      @CatmeleonStudio  2 года назад

I was always drown to the slim silhouettes. I preferred it on my paintings, my photographs etc. Probably because I always wanted to be so slim and dainty myself XD (I am more on the "short and solid" lower part type :P)
But I will never say never to a more muscular type of girl in the future. I can definitely appreciate that type of woman's body, so maybe one day I will come up with a proper concept for that :)

It takes guts not to take the easy routes and it's great to see you take every opportunity you have to learn something new! Hats off to you, mad lass! Regarding sculpting, this was a very good first try! Next time you can have an additional reference with the muscles of the creature you're trying to sculpt, it is easier to capture the subtle natural bumps in a body when you know where they come from. I look forward to the 100k subs video! Let's go!

Oh my Sorcery she's Beautifully Gorgeous!!! Your sister is going to love her Happy B-day for her, I love all kinds of horse's especially their little ones but my number 1 horse bread is
Gypsy Vanner I love how they have a little bit of Clydesdale feathers and their Rapunzel mane & tail. Maybe you can save the reject hair for another doll project,
If you or I ever made a Centaur with Gypsy Vanner mane & tail I give her armor from Centaurworld main character Horse.
I'll call this lovely Centaur Kamali (means Spirit Guide)
Kamali, Born on the month of June from a strong & proud village with luscious green's, great farms that no hot summer or coldest winter's can bring these Centaur's down not even any hunter's could find one.
One day a child got lost in the woods trying to find her way back home till she encounter Kamila, now Kamila is a proud hunter like her father but she is also helpful as a spirit guide like her mother
Kamila knew this human was no threat so she kindly help the child find her way back home. As soon as the reach she tells the young human.
This is as far as I can take you young one, follow the stream and it will lead you to your family. The child never saw Kamila again but she knew in her heart she was her spirit guide.
As soon as she returned to her family every night she looked to the sky thinking of her spirit guide Kamila wondering if they will meet again.
I wonder if there will be a Kelpie or a Pegasus in your next video. See you on your next video Catmeleon Studio. :D
