But VERY rarely do i find one with a neck profile that suits me. I can never play one for more then about 20 mins and its a real bummer lol
3:06 He's not exaggerating. I've had an SE singlecut for 15 years. Over those years I've brought home some really nice guitars (some of them triple the cost) and none of them have managed to dethrone my daily player SE. I don't know if they still make them like that but if they do, they're an absolute steal at that price.
I have an SE single cut that I bought around 2012 and yes, it's made in Korea, but a few years ago PRS switched overseas production to Indonesia. Recently I was looking at an SE Paul's Guitar in a store and it had the "made in Indonesia" print on the back of the head.
I think the SE Standards are still made in Indonesia but the SE Customs are made in Korea but to be honest the quality control of both models is just as good. Only real question is whether you feel having a flame maple top is worth an extra £300

I actually tried a large number of PRS guitars in 2 different shops. I tried mainly some SE Custom 24's and the USA made Custom 24's. With the SE versions I had 2 guitars that stood out from the others I tried. I then tried 4 of the USA versions and for the life of me I could not hear or feel a difference between those 4 guitars. It was like playing the same guitar. Basically those 4 USA guitars were just crazy consistent. Now I have heard people tell me that these guitars just don't have any.. . What's the word? Hmm... Any how, for me I had one SE Custom 24 Special Edition Exotic Wood (Zebrawood) that was screaming at me to buy it. For me the Korean version of the 15/85 PUPS had the edge for distortion and gain while the USA had the advantage with the clean (I never play clean lol). Feel, playability looks the USA version had it, but it was damn close. Yes. all in all the USA version was better, just about. But not over £2800 better. I bought the SE, looks and sounds great.
There is no comparison between the USA models and the overseas builds. The overseas builds are great for the money, but if you can, get the American built. The feel, craftsmanship, and overall playability are very obvious when you try both.

They’re both very good, honestly. I own several USA PRSs but I work on guitars for a living so I’ve seen SE models right on up to private stocks. Anyone who sees this…if you own an SE model, don’t feel like you’re playing a whack guitar AT ALL. Those guitars are professional grade…they stay in tune, most of them sound phenomenal and I’ve even played several SE 24s that rival my core CU24 in terms of playability. A core model is a legacy instrument, yes, but an SE is nothing to feel “lesser” about owning. Take comments like this one with a grain of salt, otherwise it’ll get in your head that you don’t have a “serious, big boy” guitar and that’s bullshit. PRS’s budget models still outclass about 90% of all the guitars I’ve seen over the years.
To all the Schecter, LTD, Variax, Chapman Guitars fans.... If you get a PRS SE built in Korea, it was built under the same roof as the previous brands named. I have 1 Schecter, 2 SEs, 1 S2 SC Semi hollow, 1 Core CU24. All are great, I just like stripping the SE guts to put the American pickups in it. Keep the SE G&B pickups for spare parts that I have had to use as such. Just swapped out pups in the S2 SC Semi Hollow with 57/08 pups, it's now a les paul killer.
The thing PRSs get as you go up the range is Coherence. The Customs sound much more coherent. Youre right about the ce24 i really dont want to rip in to mine just yet! But man i love it....also as soon as i bought it, my wife brought the kids in the room and knocked it over!!! Heartbreaking lol
I'm pretty sure the pickups in the S2 guitars are slightly different than the ones in the overseas models. If I'm not mistaken their made by different manufacturers (pretty sure their both overseas just ones little bit higher quality) so its kinda like having different cooks make the same recipe.
Still waiting for the day PRS announces lefty single cuts. I have a Les Paul with Core Tremonti pickups and this past christmas i got my first PRS a SE277 and absolutely love it
After viewing loads of PRS SE and core models, and not hearing a major difference between them. I came across a 2013 Korean made Custom 24 in charcoal grey with the birds on the neck. As it had three holes screwed into it for a GK3 Synth pickup (idiot, use the sticky pads) I got it at a steal, at least $200 less than other ones I'd seen. It also had a hard case so I done the deal. I filled the holes, colored and drop filled them, sanding them smooth. I felt the fingerboard edges a bit too abrupt so I rounded them off, perfect. after playing Les Pauls and Strats for many, many years, I wanted to see what this guitar could bring to the table. Firstly humbuckers, It's a good bit brighter than my Les Pauls, possibly because of the treble bleed capacitor fitted, not the same tone quality, missing the Gibson quack, really a bit generic. Think more Schecter, Ibanez etc! Split coils fare a good bit better, getting a reasonable Strat tone out of each and a nice Tele middle position. Where it falls down of course is Strat positions 2 and 4, everyone's favorites! Maybe a three humbucking pickup version with a five way switch and extra coil split would be the ultimate PRS. Check my video ;0)
@@melvynobrien6193 I get that, but unfortunately my trying options are very limited in my area. It's great if I want to try out Ibanez guitars under $1000 or some Fenders, but not so much for other brands. From what I've heard, PRS guitars are high quality all the way down to their cheapest models.
I get a Core 22 in 97" and I don't know what i would do without it. I saved up for a Gibson but then a guy at the store asked if I tried a PRS and then I did, after that it was like Gibson who?
Back in the day the SE ranges topped out at $600 and the S2 standard range were $1000+/- now the top of the SE range is more than the S2 standard. So it’s difficult to tell if the S2 standard is a better quality guitar than say a Paul’s guitar SE or the Holcomb SE
🤔 I'm not so sure. Here an SE custom 24 would cost SGD1.1K while the S2s stand at $1.9K on average. The core CE24 and 35th anniversary editions are $3K+, wood library ones hit $7-8K
If you can't tell the difference between a Malaysian (not Korean sadly) PRS and the Core (USA) version, you're not looking at the right core model... check out their "Special" with the 3 pickup arrangement and the 12 different tones it's capable off.. this is a $6000 with "10 top" guitar, but trust me, you'll know you're holding a guitar worthy of the price tag once you give it a listen.
I had an artist pack custom 24, back in 2001 But, I wanted the single cut, that was the time that gibson stopped them selling them. I stupidly sold all my other guitars, thinking it would replace them, but it didn't have the feel or vibe that I eventually missed, so I traded it back for a gibson les paul std. Fast forward 10 years or so, I had a quilted maple black cherry prs se 245, I put the pickups out of phase, sounded great, possible one of the best guitars I owned. I then stopped playing a few years later and sold everything.
Hi. Thank you for this review. For a beginner who wants to play blues, country, rock (no hard rock or metal) which PRS should I Buy in the SE series ? What’s the differences between the SE Santana signature and the SE Custom 24 ?
No mention of the SE 24-08 models considering those are an option in both SE Standard, SE Custom, SE Paul's Guitar, S2 McCarty 594 (singlecut, doublecut, thin) and the other more expensive lines' variations.
I didn't even know these guitars existed. I have both a les Paul and custom stratocaster, now I regret buying both when I could've just bought one of these to do both jobs, and look better doing so.
Great vid! Though I thought the SE Customs were created in America, instead of Korea. Also didn’t they move to Indonesia to use Cort guitar’s factory for the Standards, though I might be wrong
I had a $2500 Custom 24 and it played well but had zero "mojo" compared to my Schecter USA PT, Les Pauls, and Fender Telecaster. Generic and bland. Ive never been more disappointed. Anyone else have the same experience or should I give PRS another chance? I like the Vela model.
Look, not every manufacturer is for everyone I personally don't care for fender because of the scale length. it is what it is......Just because Paul makes the best guitars in the world doesn't mean everyone has to like them
It really depends on how the manufacturers have adapted, really. Talk about modern metal, metalcore, we have SIS (Specter, Ibanez, Schecter), and yeah, hands down the best if you're playing those two long term. TBH i like how PRS now has coil tap standardised across almost all its lines except the McCarty's (since they're Gibson inspired), albeit at a slightly higher price than say, a Squier or Epiphone alone.
But they're lightweight too, and that's a major factor in deciding to get one of them. Carrying an Am Pro strat 94 an LP (both $3.2K) would've made my arms drop like hell since I'm not that muscular
Dagan, this video was awesome. I did not know much about PRS guitars. Played a SE custom 24 -8 today. Wow. One question. I like the 35th anniversary (Faded Blue Burst) but the pickups are TCI "S" rather than 85-15 (which I played today). Is there a big difference between the two pickups? I would have to have Guitar Center bring one in from another store to play it.

I'm pretty sure the pickups in the S2 guitars are slightly different than the ones in the overseas models. If I'm not mistaken their made by different manufacturers (pretty sure their both overseas just ones little bit higher quality) so its kinda like having different cooks make the same recipe.
PRS are amazing .. wish I could visit the factory and get a custom ooof
There are also the wood library core models which have hand picked wood components
the way the light catches the Black model, it looks like a Music Man Majesty & nothing like a PRS!
Still waiting for the day PRS announces lefty single cuts. I have a Les Paul with Core Tremonti pickups and this past christmas i got my first PRS a SE277 and absolutely love it
2:19 watch for about a minute and thirty seconds. The most important thing said in this video happens at this point.
Got me an Ibanez ax 120 today. Love it
After viewing loads of PRS SE and core models, and not hearing a major difference between them.
I absolutely love my Santana semi hollowbody se!
I was actually hoping to find an SE locally when I went shopping the other day, but no luck. Will be ordering one online soon.
My experience suggests you should try before you buy,
@@melvynobrien6193 I get that, but unfortunately my trying options are very limited in my area. It's great if I want to try out Ibanez guitars under $1000 or some Fenders, but not so much for other brands. From what I've heard, PRS guitars are high quality all the way down to their cheapest models.
You missed the S2 Standard Nitro Satin with pick-guard mounted HH pickups it’s actually a little bit of a different beast for PRS.
OKAY NOW I SEE IT, THANK YOU. I WAS THINKING ABOUT BYEING ONE
Dude made the Starla look so cool
I get a Core 22 in 97" and I don't know what i would do without it. I saved up for a Gibson but then a guy at the store asked if I tried a PRS and then I did, after that it was like Gibson who?
Back in the day the SE ranges topped out at $600 and the S2 standard range were $1000+/- now the top of the SE range is more than the S2 standard. So it’s difficult to tell if the S2 standard is a better quality guitar than say a Paul’s guitar SE or the Holcomb SE
Inflation
🤔 I'm not so sure. Here an SE custom 24 would cost SGD1.1K while the S2s stand at $1.9K on average. The core CE24 and 35th anniversary editions are $3K+, wood library ones hit $7-8K
Very educational great advertising you do a awesome job
Just ordered a Starla, pretty excited.
I have a semi hollow Vela - love it! The S2 line is THE line for me.
Good review, thank you.
Awesome video man . Thank you .
Absolutely love my Hollowbody 2 SE!
I had an artist pack custom 24, back in 2001
But, I wanted the single cut, that was the time that gibson stopped them selling them.
At least someone decided to explain this. Half the time you don't know what your getting.
Great and energetic presentation. Fun!
any guitar just looks good on this lad!
This is one of thr best guitar cideos/info on the net
For me the S2 is the best line. Mostly because they skip the gaudy tops that plague the rest of the line.
Do they all not have an inlay on the first thread? I rlly wanna get a guitar with an inlay on the first thread for my next guitar
first time I've heard "thats absolutely crackers" and I love it.
I just want to have a conversation with dagan
Me too. He’s about the coolest dude doing this stuff right now and an awesome player. Infectious energy.
Thanks helps me alot 🤘🎸
Look, not every manufacturer is for everyone
I personally don't care for fender because of the scale length. it is what it is......Just because Paul makes the best guitars in the world doesn't mean everyone has to like them
It really depends on how the manufacturers have adapted, really.
I love how my PRS SE feel but was never stoked on the tone. I put Seymour Duncan pickups in it and it is now my favorite guitar..
As far as i know the SE guitars are no longer made in korea, my standard 24 is definitely made in cortek indonesia
