    Nigel that was an excellent video! I love that it was a seed to harvest video!! I have to say, it's not just newbies that will benefit from this series! I've grown many things, some well, some not since 2010, but, now that I have a larger growing space available, I"ll be growing many things I've never tried before! This series will be my reference tool for everything I do this year! (No pressure! LOL). I can't thank you enough for helping newbies and me to be successful this year! Cheers! I think this style will be a huge hit!! 💚

What a really easy to follow, thorough teaching video! Thanks for taking the time. A masterclass in big fat juicy onions. And funny and honest enough to conclude by admitting you completely forgot red ones.👌

    🙋hi from Scotland,hi Nigel thank you so much for sharing this vidio it was so satisfying whatching you sow the onion seeds and follow them growing right up to harvesting them ,I grow my onions from seed but I have to start everything indoors in my house i have a potting she'd in the garden and a nice big treehouse along at my allotment so have to wait till the weather heats up then I can move all my seed starts out to my shed or along to my unheated greenhouse as soon as the weather ge a wee bit warmer ☺️ stay safe take care Anne Scott from Scotland ❄️❄️⛄⛄

    Super interesting Nigel, I am an experienced gardener but I have always grown from sets. This year, inspired by your results, I have sown some Zebrune shallots, as a trial, to see how they do. Presumably you pot them on in a similar way? All the best Jo 😀

    Hi Nigel, For us newbie/useless veg gardeners, this series will be a real boon and so many thanks for putting it together. One comment on this particular one - I got a bit overwhelmed by all the different compost brands you used at the various stages and wondered if the change of type is a necessary one for optimum results or just what you had to hand on the day of filming. Thanks!

    • @MuddyBootz
      @MuddyBootz  3 года назад +1

      Hello and welcome to the channel 😀. In general, for sowing seed, have the compost as fine as possible preferably sieved and with no lumps or twigs (mole hills are good) and for potting on any multipurpose will do. Potting on is done for a few reasons....the plant roots need more room to grow hence the bigger pot, and also compost only contains enough plant food for about six weeks, so the new compost add more food 😀

    Only problem in terms of efficiency and productivity with onions and brassicas is the effort and time not to mention the netting required for brassicas it defeats the purpose. Onions and brassicas are so cheap. But love your devotion and attention to detail. Always a must watch for your uploads👍

    • @MuddyBootz

      I partly agree with you but the initial outlay will pay back itself over the years and also the method of growing is known unlike the ones you purchased in supermarkets 😀. Plus with staggered sowings I can harvest crops and varieties that are not available in supermarkets at various times of the year

    I see you’re using BHGS trays Nigel, I used them for all of our sundries when I was at the nursery. I’ve just had a compost delivery and they sent Bathgate, ever used it before so will be interesting to see how it performs. I ordered a vitopod, the delivery came within two days, i bought the 100 watt instead of the 50 watt, they are changing no problem, what service. Take care.
