Nightcrawlers vs Chicken Liver | Most popular catfish bait challenge?

  • The results were a little unexpected as I thought one bait would easily out fish another!
I wanted to try and do a fishing challenge with baits that your average fisherman would use to catch Catfish with. Nightcrawlers and Chicken liver have to be the most popular baits ever for fishing for Catfish (or anything else really!). I went to a spot that I have caught Channel Catfish at before in the past to see which bait would work. This video is the results! You could consider both baits as natural baits that a Catfish would find in the wild. Liver is a little difficult to fish with that is why I try to salt cure it or dry it out some. Catfish really like the most fresh baits possible so leave me a comment below if you want me to try using liver differently!

Hard to beat a worm. Only bad thing about them is having all the little fish clean your hook while waiting for a good one.

I used to cover my hook points and the cats would swallow the hook. Now that I leave the hook exposed, no more gut hooks. Great tip. I laughed when you told the fish "That Way!" I talk to them as well. The first release left a beautiful mud trail in the water. Looking forward to more excellent content. Tight Lines Bro!

Yes, I like the bait challenge videos. Please do more! I carry as many as 3 to 4 different baits cause you never know what they might want. Could be the difference in catching something or nothing. I tried chicken breast for the first time a few weeks ago close to chickamauga dam and caught a 20 lb blue on a big chunk of it while the nightcrawlers I had on the other line never got touched. The next day, I caught a nice channel cat on the nightcrawlers while the chicken breast sat untouched the entire time I was there. Go figure, but either way It`s good to try multiple baits.

Exactly. I ore make dough bait from cheese that I keep in a tub ready for easy use. I bring that and chicken liver and night crawelers rerely get skunked unless the fish just aint bitin.

What I do with chicken liver is take pantyhose and make bait balls out of them. I've had one of my little bait balls catch 3 cats before I had to change it and 1 pound fresh liver from anywhere can make around 15 good size balls.
The secret is adding garlic and whatever else you choose to the blood and small chunks of liver left over and put the bait balls into that and soak them. You can freeze that in the same container and it stays fresh longer plus when it thaws out you still have your stink bait juice to keep the bait balls fresh through the day. Happy fishing 😄

I need to try that! I rarely use liver although recently it caught me a few Bullhead catfish in a local creek here: ruclips.net/video/uiXUze6KxLc/видео.html

Take the challenge to the blue cat spot and maybe add cut bait. I'd suspect cut bait to prevail but I think it would make a perfect control group for the experiment.
No fishing here @ 35 degrees but loving the free entertainment compared to anything on tv. Playing with my latest 7000C3 (that needs re-boxed and gift wrapped). Love the lever spool engagement more than anything else at this point. Rod selected has not been ordered or mentioned on RUclips but should be worthy of a quick initial review and test casting vs. similar 1990's gear.

I've never had much luck with liver. Sardines/Anchovies and worms are my usual pick, at least where I fish. A deadly combo is a nice hunk of sardine topped with half a worm.

Team Catfish Double Action Circle Hooks are the hooks that have caught me the most fish. I use the big 8/0 ones for big fish and big baits and the small 1/0 ones for smaller fish using nightcralwers and such. I am promotional staff with them now thanks to using their hooks for years.

From my experience. Worms= a lot of smaller fish and Chicken liver= bigger fish maybe less. Now with that being said that can be bice versa at times and you can catch a big one on a worm and numbers on liver. But I have just caught more big cats on liver and cheese dough

When I was a boy we would get a hand saw and go in the woods near where we were fishing and clear the ground leaves around a small tree that was about a inch or two in diameter saw it off about a foot or so high then slowly drag the saw across the stump sawing toward the ground and the worms come to the surface thinking it's raining, free bait and didn't have to go spend money for it
