This video is about how to creat pintucks, not basic sewing machine operation. There aere 1000's of videos about that.
The foot pedal acts like the gas pedal in a car. The harder you push, the faster it goes (up to the machine's max limit). Some machines have a switch you can set to limit the speed no matter how hard you push the foot pedal. Good for beginners.
