Word on the street is those Noodler pens are biodegradable, that's why they smell so bad. I don't know if that's an excuse, though. I smell a lot of other biodegradable things all day that aren't so rank. Anyways, it doesn't keep me from taking a strong whiff of the pen every now and then.
They smell like Raclette cheese.

The pens are made from ebonite, which is why they have an odor.
I actually love the smell of the ahabs! Seems like i'm the only one who likes them haha. The aroma goes away with time tho.
Sorry it stinks lol, mine have been fine since I washed them. I have those tootsie pops all over cause I don't eat them. Surprised that they didn't just send you a print out of my note. The paper from Rhodia is hydrophobic, so it does not dry quickly. The idea is that for highly shaded inks, they won't seep into the paper.

Smell doesn't go away quick, I have one from half a year ago and you still smell it up close. Such a shame for such an otherwise nice pen.
it's really odd to me because I washed the pen with a diluted bleach solution pretty thoroughly as well as wiping it down with soap and water.

As a lefty fountain pen user, I can't help but spam your comments. That paper is made for FP inks. The ink sits on top of it because it is coated. It shows sheen really nicely of your ink selection does that. Because it doesn't soak up the ink like copy and other papers might. Great sketch. Love the secret nose picking note.

The Goulet Pen Company is awesome. They're one of the main American distributors of fountain pens and fountain pen supplies. The feed was an Ebonite feed, and the lollipop was from Goulet as well. They include a lollipop with all of their shipments, and their customer service is amazing. And the ink smudges easily because it's water-based and tends to dry longer on Rhodia paper because it's less absorbent. Love the videos, man!

Sometimes when I feel shitty, I come back to watch Peter smelling Noodler's Ahab. Then everything seems okay again.

You get a tiny tootsie pop with every goulet order, along with a handwritten note
As for the hilarious sniffing, the noodlers pens are made from a vegetal resin that's crazy durable, long lasting and also biodegradable (nathan tardiff of noodlers pens has done a video of himself driving over his pens with his car and literally firing them out of a shotgun.) The smell will fade with time, but I actually kinda learned to like the smell. After a few weeks it smells like something vintage should smell.
The feed is "EBONITE" which is super hard, vulcanized rubber. Unlike plastic, it can be heat set using boiling water to form a perfect seal to the nib, which lets you use any number of different #6 nibs on that pen (from zebra comic G dip pen nibs to nemosine 0.6 stubs, to goulet nibs, tons of stuff works, but without the ability to heat set the feed, almost none of them would work properly)
The Ahab is a fiddly pen, but that was its entire point. It's a crap flex pen out of the box, but Nathan made it to be as durable, inexpensive, and customizable as possible, successful to the point where I have three, one with a custom feed, one with a modified indian feed and zebra comic dip nib, and one with a goulet 1.1mm stub. The ahab uses a sweet piston filler designed to look like captain ahab's peg leg, and for $5 on goulet pens you can get 5x "308 reloadable cartridges" which are portable, refillable cartridges that just screw on in place of the piston, which is amazeballs for taking with you on a plane, or dab a little silicon grease on the threads of the barrel and fill that bad boy up with a gallon of ink. I love the ahab pen so much.
The kaweko is a fantastic little everyday pen.

The issues with the ink drying slowly is most likely a combination of ink and paper. Noodler's ink tends to dry more slowly than other inks, but paper type can greatly affect it as well
One thing I think is really cool is that they make special quick drying ink for people who are left handed so they don't have to worry about smudging as much
