Hi Michael, I'm thrilled! Your channel introduced me to the world of 3D printing three years ago. I can't express how excited I feel right now after watching the video. It feels like a dream come true! Keep up the fantastic work, and thanks again for everything!
Thanks for your great work. SuperSlicer seems to be stalling so I'm potentially going to use this as my primary slicer. I've just added a few more printers this morning and I might look into a pull request to add others.
making the same mistake again, it’s another fork of a mainline slicer being created by a single dude… What could go wrong :) of course this will also be abandoned as happened with super slicer, you need a team to support something as complex as a slicer, there is no single person that can handle in a timely manner the complexity involved in supporting it, adding features is easy, supporting and debugging issues is what kills this generous forkers, bless their hearts but I give this 1 and a half years, the toll is too heavy unless you are a rich person without kids or other life goals.
I was skeptical about using the Soft Fever fork on my X1C because the firmware is proprietary and I wasn't keen on using a different slicer but after watching your video I'm going to open it up and give it a go I always knew SF is a fork of BS but it's all still so new I've been waiting to see what a professional like yourself thinks about it Thanks Michael, you have a way of explaining things in simple terms which shows that you really know your stuff
I was reluctant in buying a X1C exactly because of the lack of linux version of the slicer. Thanks to you, I see that this is not an issue anymore!! Thanks for the video (and also for the variety of onshape tutorials!!)
See so much mud slinging toward Bambu for some stupid reason but people accept Ultimaker, Makerbot, Flashforge, Markforged, Snapmaker, etc. without batting an eye. Makes no sense. Bambu did something different and are offering solid machines for a reasonable price. Personally I'd give my right testicle to own one. I want a Bambu so bad. I fully support them because I like what they are doing and they are actually listening to the community and taking all feedback seriously. It's refreshing honestly.
People rightly rip on bambu lab because they have blatantly ripped off open source innovations, then close it up and slap a proprietary label on it while calling it their own. They had already tried to keep their slicer closed, but had to open it because they were caught violating the laws surrounding the open source silence. Their firmware is clearly based off klipper too, yet they keep that closed too. Not to mention their lack of transparency. their horrendous QC and CS issues, and that their CF rods/bronze bushing set up is basically rendering their X1/P1P as throw away printer. There are already new kickstarter printers that are doing things the same, if not better than BL.
I loved superslicer and was really excited when you made a video about switching to it. However it has not seen any love at all for some time now. I switched to prusaslicer but wasn't overly happy with it. BUT this soft fever fork of bambu studio is awesome. I made profiles for all my printers and being able to lay out an entire printing project on their own build plates and have it in one spot is frankly a game changer for me. It's something I didn't know I wanted until I had it considering I just opened multiple slicer windows. Also being able to have web access for my machines running octoprint or mainsail is AWESOME. I'm so excited for this.
Man I LOOOOOOVE the brim ears you can add in SS, unlike the need to add manually circles at the base of your print in PS. It's one of the main reason I use SS, but there are other cool things :D
Have you not heard the word of the Supermerill being back? He was just super busy for a while, but the train is rolling again and he just put out a release candidate that has g2/g3 ported over from bambu, and a notch option which acts like a better version of coasting and is really helpful for getting seams perfect. On top of arachne which he got a decent version up and running before his hiatus that never made it to a full 2.5 release.
@@perrinsilveira6759 Really liking SuperSlicer and very interested in trying the notch option. Where can I get a nightly or rc build on PC? Can't seem to find any on github. I'm a github noob so knowing where things are is difficult. Or do I have to build the release myself? Appreciate any pointers. Cheers.
SoftFever has replaced Cura, Prusa, Super, Ideamaker and Simplify3D on my machines. Integrated calibrations and predefined profiles for lots of printers who easily can be used for other "brands" with similar HW - who actually works good is a gamechanger!
The ability to calibrate flow/pressure advance for each individual fillament is such a gamechanger. And it has almost all the features prusa slicer has. Couldnt ask for more.
Thank you for this overlook. I got my Bambu x-1 carbon and want it to perform perfectly like anyone else. This helped a lot, as well as the geniuses behind orca slicer.
It’s good, but doesn’t give you the option of saving the K-value per filament, you have to remember to change it every time. Also with the issue of not seeing black filament on the PEI plate, the BBL Cali button doesn’t have the tower version of the calibration.
Great video Michael. I will definitely be giving this a try and likely switching. Will try it on my P1P, RatRig, Prusa's and Vorons. May even try it on my Atomstack too! I'll end up doing either a live stream or video to show how each went!
Received my P1S 3 days ago. Have only had time to run the first test print, which came out great! I figured since I'm a Simplify3D user, I might as well try Orca for the Bambu. I like the idea of it having built-in Calibration options 🤘🤘
I've been thinking of upgrading to the Bambu X1 but thought I'd give OrcaSilcer a look first. Historically I've used Simplify3D so this will be my first attempt with an alternate slicer. I'll be using a Creality Ender 5 Pro with Octoprint. Love the channel, keep them coming and Thank you!
Really like your channel and the race car too. I have a CR 10S Pro V1 that has been modified a lot. I recently converted to Klipper to find a much improved printer quality. Then I dropped Octoprint and S3d for Mainsail and Orca. It feels better but I am struggling to dial in the supports and how find the config editor. I am updating the cooling fans to get dual part fans one on each side. I know that will help too, but I need to space the BL touch further left of the nozzle by 28mm. The bracket .STL works but I am unable to find how to recalibrate the BL touch location. Its always some little thing that is hidden in some way that sets these newer systems back. I hope to have one of the fastest 10S Pro printers but it looks like it will take a while to iron out all the wrinkles. Thank You for all do to help and intertain, be safe, Dennis
Just a note on the auto-calibration on the X1 series of printers - it does not calibrate flow rate and never has done. It only calibrates Pressure Advance. Bambu have confirmed this and said that they think it should be possible to get flow rate to be calibrated automatically with the hardware available, but at present it still does not attempt to do it.
"and that's because it has to be" - because Slic3r is licensed under AGPL 3.0 which means if you make modifications, your modification's source code must also be available. (Other open source licenses may not require this, e.g. Apache V2.)
This is very nice. Perhaps in the future, they can add additional tool heads, and I can use this with my Toolchanger. It should be possible as Superslicer allows the addition of several toolheads. Regards.
I really like the orcaslicer because it gives me the option to change the brim width of the tree support. It is very usefull to make the adhesion better, very stupid that bambu slicer itself does not give you that option since it is very important.
Thanks for the video, im eagerly awaiting bambu to actually send my printer..... three days sitting in some warehouse waiting carrier to scan the bloody parcel. I decided to start learning this stuff as by the time my local Aus post gets it to me il be an expert hahaha
As I type this, I am printing something on my qidi x plus 3 that was sliced with orcaslicer and from what it looks like along with past prints using this setup, it is so seamless that It's almost as if orca was built for qidi machines; I barely even use the inbuilt screen on the printer. Also they're just pretty plug'n'play machines so that helps too but I really like orcaslicer.
This is very interesting! Since the only printer I use these days is my X1C and since BambuSlicer plays very well with the X1C - it's like they were made to work together - I probably won't bother changing. I hate learning new interfaces and a subtly different one is actually worse for me than a very different one. (Also, I'm not overly interested in spending a lot of time and plastic trying to get everything absosmurfly 100% perfect, so the built-in tuning is more than good enough for me.) But it's still awesome to see options out there. And given that one of the reasons I prefer the X1C and BambuSlicer is the "it's all just right here I don't even have to stand up" functionality to get a print started, it's truly great to see that capability being extended to other printers where practical.
The dependencies between filaments, print profiles and system printer definitions are also giving me headaches in every PrusaSlicer-based slicer. Having an Ender 3 and a corexy Sapphire Plus, both Klipperized, I'd love to have the same filaments on both printer profiles, but that all falls apart if you use different system printer profiles to start from and although I know there are some conditions that can be mentioned in a profile to match comments in the printer profile, I still have not fully figured out how to just get generic things that work with everything.
I’m having the same issue with TPU not showing up under the E3 V2… the only explanation that I can think of is a stock E3 V2 isn’t considered capable of printing TPU due to its working mechanics and limitations. SoftFever should fork that in as well as other Printer configs like for example an E3 V2 with Ender Extender, Direct drive, and ABL. I truly think if the work was done within Bambu Studio it could become one of the top used Slicers available which would just push Bambu Labs higher up in the printing industry as being “user friendly”. Which my P1P arrives in 2 days 😅I’ve already loaded up on filament and stl files that my maxed out E3 V2 refuses to print… 😂
I gave this version a try, but its packed full of bugs, but that may only be due to me setting up custom printers, I love the interface, its still a little messy like Prusa/Super Slicer, but still not bad, I think I will let it mature a little before I use it, Cura is much more solid/stable slicer in my opinion, but it has its own issues, looking forward to how the project develops, I would love to see a slicer that is built from the ground up to support Klipper.
Thanks for the video! I have heard of it and downloaded it, but was not sure of the advantages. I have two Bambu, a P1P and the X1 Carbon and two Rat Rigs a 500 and 400, this should allow me to integrate them into one process. I'm also in the process of testing the Phaetus APUS and XG combo on a Rat Rig to see if they work as well as my OmniaDrops.
Is the PA value written in the gcode in the corresponding language like "set pressure_advance=xy" for klipper? At the moment i have the values in the filament gcode tab. Im asking since you need some really complicated translation macros if you want to use dynamic acceleration control with other slicers. That also might be the reason why the softfever print on the ratrig was slower, it has dynamic acceleration control on by default
Well thx TT the video is clear as well as the tuto from bambu and so far i tried both option as u for the PA calib but then the PA line same as you i don't have any single diff between each line so i jump on the PA tower calib but same here i have some beam issue but i look at every corner and is nice clear and clean without any difference too..🤔 nice glossy with my black PLA filament !! can't add pic here sad..it's normal or ? run on bear mk3 with just brand new revo !!
@TeachingTech at 10:05 Generic PLA and Generic PETG are the only ones showing up because those are the only system presets that they currently have for the Ender 3 unfortunately. At 10:21 they show up because on the filament selection screen you have the bambulabs printers and ratrig selected up above, so its showing presets for all the printers, not the ones thats are only available for the ender 3.
The only issue I've had with my X1-C is with transparent filaments and with this glow in the dark filament I tried to print with a few times with blobbing and adhesion issues. Everything else has been damn near flawless.
the slicer assigns filaments to specific printers, i have to add everything to my voron but bambu includes all the filament presets to choose from ... even a year later
Hi Michael, I run a 3d printing business selling polymer clay cutters and I just got the P1P. I was really excited to use it, until I saw the final layers being laid down for the cutting edge. I create the stl files myself and the blade tapers from 2mm down to .4 mm to be sharp enough to make clean cuts into the polymer clay. The P1P ended up making the edges way too thick and even had some odd bumps and ridges it pressed into the blade from the top. I am trying to find a slicer profile that will work well for this but it is difficult to find someone with my specific problem. Basically the printer refuses to print anything that is smaller than .5 or .6 mm. My nozzle is a .4mm
The main question I have ( and maybe a reason I would have issues to go for it ) is ... how is the workflow to retrofit new features that are appearing in Prusa Slicer .... as the one we got in Prusa 2.6 ?( embossing / deboss texts ; cut tool with connectors , ...
Great content as always, do u have any thoughts of a comparison video between your rat rig and your carbon x1? I currently have a modified ender 3 and I'm looking for a big upgrade Thanks
@@TeachingTech Thank you. I don't actually have a P1P, I do have the X1C but was thinking about getting a P1P. That would make sense though if they had put a low speed SD card in it.
I tried to enable the default TPU selection as well but couldn't. Notice in the Filament Selection window that you have all of your printers checked. Each printer has a list of compatible filaments, so if you select only the Ender 3, the list of filaments in that window will reduce to ABS, PLA, and PETG. I tried copying the generic TPU files to the Creality folder and modifying the config files to include the "My Generic TPU" but was never able to make it a selectable default for an Ender 3
With this program on the Ender 3 setting, do you know if this slicer will work with the Neptune 2S directly or is there some Gcode modification required? Fairly new to this, thank you
I don't have that printer, but chances are it runs Marlin firmware like most 3D printers. Only sticking point would be the arc support and whether the firmware has it enabled already.
Diferent slicers work better depending on what your attempting to do with it - beyond that it's more about personal taste. Either way, Cura seems to be the most popular slice amongst users. My question would be what makes this slicer shine above the rest and what would the pros and cons be for printers such and ender 3/3 pro?
I like Orca, but is it possible to ad more Prusa machines to it? currently only the MK3s the Mini are supported. I mean it should be doable? It is a fork of a fork of Prusa Slicer...
TPU does weird stuff in Cura too. I added it as a material fine, but when I select it it says there's no profile associated with the material and all my profiles disappear. If I create a new profile it still won't work so I do what you do and just modify my PLA material settings.
Today my Prusa Mk3s got stuck after printing 4 pieces on the buildplate with the option printorder by object ( Print sequence ) 3 parts are different spots not like presentation.. and printerhead stuck on object 3... Blackscreen... Damn i liked the quality of my prints.
Can you tell me how to change the color the model is displayed in? For some reason it’s black which is hard to see details and impossible as a thumbnail on a black background. I went into filament settings and black was the default color for generic PETG. I switched it to red but models still show up in black
As cra ypuser, how does this compare to the current 5.x of Cura? This looks interesting, but I'm not sure of a feature to feature, benefit to benifit comparison, not to mention the learning curve.
the problem you might of had is not changing the bed type. in bambo slicer it wont allow you to print colder prints on higher heat bed types. Cool side plate versus engineering plate for example.
i love your videos, but where is the goats? informative and great learning videos but the goats are sooo cute (sorry bad english) but great vid. i try it out (geetech a30pro witc is a cr10 clone soooo)
The goats are still cute and like to get up to no good. We have built them an extended area in the bush next to the yard. Just need to automate the entry gate.
I'm having so much trouble trying to extract this file and get the exe file . All the videos look easy but I can't even open the application help !!!!! It's getting frustrating now 😒 😑 🙃 😐
@@paulmyfinger It appears that with the current edition it automatically imports the presets when you launch it for the first time, although some of the presets seem to be getting lost in translation.
I did in this video. Use the Ender 3 V2 preset. The build volume is the same. You only have to change things like retraction values if you've changed the extruder/hot end.

I dont
@@JezzyCrazyTV Yeah, me either by now. Found out I was having adhesion/extrusion issues caused by incorrect temps. All is well.
in OrcaSlicer 1.6.2 the 2019 Ender 5 Pro is now supported.
nice one mike mate
GREAT VIDEO!!! Very Informative. Would I have a default option in SoftFever if I install a 0.2mm nozzle on my Bambu X1C?
the slicer assigns filaments to specific printers, i have to add everything to my voron but bambu includes all the filament presets to choose from ... even a year later
I would love to see if its possible to use cura in the bambu printers and to do it
Hi Michael, I run a 3d printing business selling polymer clay cutters and I just got the P1P.
Hi, Michael. I'm getting a p1s shipped soon. And I'm currently using Orca. Can I stick with it? Or should I at least try Bambu studio?
The main question I have ( and maybe a reason I would have issues to go for it ) is ... how is the workflow to retrofit new features that are appearing in Prusa Slicer .... as the one we got in Prusa 2.6 ?( embossing / deboss texts ; cut tool with connectors , ...
Great video! Thank you
don't even need to watch the video. The answer is yes. It's much better
Great content as always, do u have any thoughts of a comparison video between your rat rig and your carbon x1? I currently have a modified ender 3 and I'm looking for a big upgrade
Thanks
I'm going to definitely set this up. Any chance you have a P1P? I'm curious if this would help with the wifi transfer speed at all.
There has been a lot of discussions from my patrons about changing the SD card in the P1P to help wifi speed and reliability. Give it a go.
@@TeachingTech Thank you. I don't actually have a P1P, I do have the X1C but was thinking about getting a P1P. That would make sense though if they had put a low speed SD card in it.
Nice video, thank you!
Will the filament specific PA value overwrite what I’ve defined in Klipper as the standard value?
I tried to enable the default TPU selection as well but couldn't. Notice in the Filament Selection window that you have all of your printers checked. Each printer has a list of compatible filaments, so if you select only the Ender 3, the list of filaments in that window will reduce to ABS, PLA, and PETG. I tried copying the generic TPU files to the Creality folder and modifying the config files to include the "My Generic TPU" but was never able to make it a selectable default for an Ender 3
Great video. I buyed a p1p. Which nozzle size is preinstalled? O.2 or 0.4?
Average Bambu Labs owner:
Great video. Did you happen to check the test print again after you did the tuning for the filament to see stock Vs tuned different?
I like Orca, but is it possible to ad more Prusa machines to it? currently only the MK3s the Mini are supported. I mean it should be doable? It is a fork of a fork of Prusa Slicer...
As someone that is only familiar with cura and ideamaker, should I start with this fork when my x1c comes in next month?
I don't see any point I changing from the standard bambu slicer.
TPU does weird stuff in Cura too. I added it as a material fine, but when I select it it says there's no profile associated with the material and all my profiles disappear. If I create a new profile it still won't work so I do what you do and just modify my PLA material settings.
I used the same file with the same settings in Orca and Bambu. Orca took 11.5 hrs....Bambu took 7. Not sure what the uproar is. They look identicle
This looks interesting, but I'm not sure of a feature to feature, benefit to benifit comparison, not to mention the learning curve.
do you know if your external blower fan works with the p1p and softfever folk. mine wont work on sliced files. :(
they are adding ender 3 s1 and pro soon have you done the creailty sonic pad they have fixed all the bugs fully
Has someone tried this with the Anker M5, can i integrade the camera into SoftFever?
What is a fork, exactly?
I am trying to get this slicer running with my Sidewinder X2 but its giving alot of errors >< hope they can sort these error out.
the problem you might of had is not changing the bed type. in bambo slicer it wont allow you to print colder prints on higher heat bed types. Cool side plate versus engineering plate for example.
my printer have dual extruder and i cant see an option to use my second extruder in orca slicer please help!!
When did the bambu "slicer" become the bar to meet? 🤷
Can you have both slicers installed on one PC?
It's more like orca is just turning options that bamboo turned off. Most which are already in prusa so what's the point other than WiFi integration
i love your videos, but where is the goats?
informative and great learning videos but the goats are sooo cute (sorry bad english) but great vid. i try it out (geetech a30pro witc is a cr10 clone soooo)
The goats are still cute and like to get up to no good. We have built them an extended area in the bush next to the yard. Just need to automate the entry gate.
Where to find this file to copy for klipper
How long before someone forks the softfever and we have yet another level of extraction from the original.
You can see in the early part of the video it has been forked quite a bit already. Some of those might have been to create pull requests though.
has anyone actually managed to fins the klipper g2/g3 support code ? i cant find it
I'm having so much trouble trying to extract this file and get the exe file . All the videos look easy but I can't even open the application help !!!!! It's getting frustrating now 😒 😑 🙃 😐
To be honest I'd rather prefer SuperSlicer to get more hands to move forward and get some polish.
How do you transfer user presets from one version to an updated version since they run from different folders?
Is there not a export or import function. That's all I did in cura
@@paulmyfinger It appears that with the current edition it automatically imports the presets when you launch it for the first time, although some of the presets seem to be getting lost in translation.
When is Bambu gonna be forced to release their forked Klipper firmware?
Forced?
Input shaping is in marlin as well, bambu folks may have just re-implemented it
@@1fareast14 they just stole it from open source and they're violating the license just like they did the first time with slicer
@Martin Wolker Possible, and we can't exactly check due it being closed
@@MartinWolkercan't really steal open source and there not violating anything imo it's a nice grab at straws though lol
Anyone got this slicer working together with an Ender 3 Pro?
I did in this video. Use the Ender 3 V2 preset. The build volume is the same. You only have to change things like retraction values if you've changed the extruder/hot end.
after extensive testing I have abandoned Orca slicer its just not stable and every release gets worse.
Damnit no f1 shirt today hahah
You have inspired me to buy more!
@@TeachingTech hahah, looking forward to see them in the next video!
Nice Video, again! jbtw: your network-connection should be private not public ;-)
I really wish the ams was the primary focus. The poop waste is very bad.
It has no volumetric slope...
Michel, do you know if we can still buy a Bamboo Labs printer?
of course you can - maybe out of stock wherever you are in the world however.
@@sirtexy4554 thank you brother.👍😃
