@neilphilippeocampo4420 Yeah. I have the RG35XXH, and was wondering if this would be an upgrade. The 35XXH fits perfectly in my shirt pocket at work, though which is nice.
Man, I got the V model and now I feel I should have waited for this lol. That said, I don't really have a preference for horizontal vs vertical, and I don't play a lot of games that require analog triggers. In any case, looking forward to that review!
The little rubber bits under the thumbsticks that keep dirt out came out on my left stick (either the first time I used it or was like that upon receipt). No way to get it back in without taking apart the system. Thanks Anbernic
@thuba7572 I personally prefer the vertical form and PS controller/symmetrical stick layout, but I have big hands/long thumbs and I couldn't agree more that the 406V isn't comfortable for long sessions or more demanding/quick input games(fighting games, action, fps, etc.). I wish it was just even like 1" x 1" bigger, an inch longer and 1/2 inch wider on both sides so the controls didn't feel so cramped.
Those are not analog sticks! They are digital and the clickness comes from the microswitches sound! Imagine an arcade stick with a shorter shaft, that's what they are.
Yeah it's good but not yet perfect for PS2 so I guess the 407 might be it, depending on what Anbernic does with the screen and chipset. Hopefully strong chip with oled
if the 556 comes out with a new wifi dongle and these sticks ill spend legit 500 bucks plus tax and like 60 shipping no effing lie take my 1996 carola keys
4:3 with stick over dpad? Come on Anbernic. Hire ONE consultant. You gonna give yourself cramps holding that thing 99% of the time so like 2 psx games feel better?
Nah, he is right, all they had to do was put a little v shape on left side with the joystick and D-pad. Would be way more comfortable. Nearly every reviewer has called out RP5 for not doing this, so it would have been great to see another company capitalize on fixing that issue. 🤦🏻♂️
@@3godzilla3 Yeah, that's my point, if you want to play GC you want the Analog Stick on top. If you'll be playing lowet-end devices, you'll want the dpad on top like the 40XXH. But in the end they have to make a decision on which control layout to put it and it will never be perfect for every game. I prefer analog on top for high-end devices because I will be mostly using them for the high-end stuff. Also, besides PS2 and GC, N64 is a system that greatly benefits from analog on top.
Maaaannnnn... I can't afford any of this handhelds, i only have the cheap Powkiddy Q90 mainly for playing GBA cause im from India and the customs tax is 10% and for the shipping is 30% to sometimes 50% of the product cost.
"We've got a retro stew going" This is the handheld equivalent of having to make a stew during your high school home economics class that you took because you thought it would be a good way to meet girls. When nobody was looking you dumped a couple cans of Dinty Moore into it to thicken it up and give it flavor. Then the teacher came around to test them and absolutely raves about yours being the best she's tasted all day and you just have to like stand there sheepishly claiming that it was an old family recipe you got from your dead grandmother... I love Dinty Moore beef stew. It's one of my favorite food groups on the USDA Pyramid. I'm sure that a bespoke home made stew crafted by French artisans in a golden pot is probably "better"; but, I don't think it's better. I'm sure that there's horizontal handhelds that are "better" than this Anbernic; but, I'm not sure if they're better for me. I'm really vibing with what I'm seeing here. It's compelling, like the promise of a warm can of beef stew after a long day of making other people's yards look nice.
Once anbernic releases a device with tiny bezels - then I will buy one. I can’t justify buying a device that looks like it came from 2012 with monster bezels. I’m sure it’s weird criticism but I don’t like the look of old tech. Imagine how good these handhelds would look if they maxxed out the screen to body ratio.
As great as this constant flood of handhelds is for choice, i cant help thinking the chinese have tapped into a market here which takes advantage of our love for retro games to sell us trash, years old hardware packaged up in a fancy case, one after the other, at some point somebody needs to question the value proposition, are we being played for idiots here.
That is one way to see it. That said, many products have been in storage for years and we still buy them (like the Switch). I personally don't mind as long as the quality is acceptable and they have value for us retro gamers (and for me personally, the value is BIG).
No, besides these Handhelds are Retro Gaming devices not Flagship Phones. All these Handhelds present different types of play. A GBA is not the same as the GBA SP. The GBA SP is not the same as a Game Gear. The Game Gear is not the same as a Neo Geo Pocket. Retro Gaming devices come in different shapes and sizes.
Only if you're buying multiple models and you're not sure why aside from it being new. Ultimately, these companies are just providing a variety of options. Some people just go overboard when they likely shouldn't.
Either kind of D-pad is fine, what is not fine is placing it directly under the joystick. They were thoughtful enough to offset the right joystick and face buttons, why not do the same on the left? Seems like half baked planning 🍻

I really like the design. It looks like a gamepad with steam deck ergonomics. I am hoping for an rg406"w" with a 5.5 oled widescreen.
Honestly I hope Anbernic re-releases the RG556 with these Analog Sticks.
And better plastic
Coming RG557
@@cyc9307That would imply that they added a new Chipset.

@@RetroGamerAJ i feel you bro,already have anbernic rg 351p,rg 40xxh and now i want this one😅
I think you shouldn't buy it if you have the Odin 2 pro. Since you can legit use the Odin 2 for anything
Odin 2 is all you need.
I want this more than the Retroid pockets
@@ninjason57 Same here, to be honest I might buy a RP5 and donate it to Micro Linux for his Channel but I'll see.
I can use one of those donations lol@@Pridetoons

I much prefer retroid devices
This is cool but it def will need to he significantly cheaper than the rp5 for anbernic to not be cooked immediately
Exactly. Anbernic needs to increase the power on their mid-tier devices if they are intending to compete in the mid-tier price point. 🍻
I’ll buy for $100
This ain't $100 😢@@11.darklone

The shoulder buttons sound MAD loud on the H. I think you're better off with the V, my friend.
