Watched it in Hong Kong a month ago. It's a very faithful adaptation of the manga. Brilliant casting as well. I suggest give it a try rather than making judgements before watching.
Jhoshua Torres Right! Even Ishida named him as the only choice of Kaneki if a film was to be made. Masataka's performance in Death Note (TV drama version) was also excellent. Absolutely love how he can portray both innocent Ken/ bloodthirsty ghoul and sympathetic Light/ cold-hearted Kira.
Slickenzi Clamp god They won't even reach it in a sequel. This one ends with the investigators so restaurant and aogiri parts will happen in a sequel if there ever will be one
They are not even close to Hollywoods movie adaptations of comic books. Look at The Dark Knight trilogy or Watchmen. Particularly the Watchman movie follows the comic very closely and is still amazing.
It seems like they not only captured the gruesome tone of the anime/manga but also managed to get a great cast that perfectly captures the look and personality of their anime counterparts. I'm really excited for this
Death note was my final straw. I have ZERO expectations for any anime live action. But that being said, i think you're right they focused on a lot of detail and it has earned my attention.
I may be biased, but Japan is my home, so I know what Japanese is meant to sound like and this definitely isn't it. Every line feels forced and unnatural. They're doing what they think they are meant to do, rather than actually becoming their characters. They are playing very powerful, very disturbing characters, but they really just come across as regular people doing weird things that don't match them at all. None of them come across as genuinely strong or dangerous. The facial expressions are even less convincing than the speech.
The characters and plot are even better in the manga because the anime rushed through most of the character development making the anime feel edgy and juvenile where the manga was not. Also if you're into the violence the manga has more of that... The movie is actually better than the manga and the anime. It's like a more mature and subtle take on the Tokyo Ghoul manga.
1:21 I recognized that scene almost immediately. It's where Kaneki walks in on that little ghoul girl while she's eating. ((Can't remember which episode of the anime that scene is from, but I do remember that scene from the anime))
Movie is actually great , i think . The actors did great job , cinematography and direction was cool enough . And the ost which is BANKA - illion is the best one omg . But the next one"Tokyo ghoul S" doesn't look that great honestly … But who knows , let's just hope
This actually looks interesting, I thought it was kinda bad since most anime live actions are terrible, but this one right here is telling me that this will be pretty good 👌
was hoping that last scene of the trailer of him sitting and study blinking into him tie to the chair in checkerboard room for a secound with static noise, that would've been so cool
This actually looks promising... I don't want to get my hopes up too quickly since I liked the anime a lot but I'm rather impressed that they captured most of the important scenes right away from the series into the trailer. NOTE: I feel this should be seen only if you have seen the anime
for those of you who are bitching this is written by Ishida and most of the scenes are exact manga panels I don't get why you are so upset. and if you are anime only then don't watch it because it's following the manga and it's gunna look different.
I watched the movie recently and the writing was better than the manga at points... where the manga was juvenile and explicit the movie made mature and subtle.
I HAVE JUST WATCHED THIS, and its FANTASTIC !!!! was sceptical in the beginnning , but oh boy, the movie is so GOODDDD!! everyone has got to watch this!
ok cool but pleas don't fcking make Furuta small we all know he is the biggest baddie and tallest so if he'll be small then I will hate thus more than I do now lol
can't lie, this looks decent. we might be seeing the first acceptable live action anime movie ever in this, but looking at former adaptations I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

Hopefully this will be better then death note the the Netflix Movie
Youre talking about the japanese movie or US?
Hopefully actually is. it hit the Box office in Japan
Youd be hard pressed to make something worse than the death note movie.
Nah the Netflix one was pretty good. Japanese ones were terrible though
Not a very hard feat to accomplish
Watched it in Hong Kong a month ago. It's a very faithful adaptation of the manga. Brilliant casting as well. I suggest give it a try rather than making judgements before watching.
Carvar L how did you watch it if it’s not out yet? I’m so confused.
Larissa Reimer Some countries get to watch it earlier.
Carvar L agreed! The actory portrayed ken was awesome
I'm sorry, but I really want to see what Juuzou would look like 😂
Elle Suzuya same

He is not even in the movie.
@Joel Lazarte they're trash

Remember guys, it can’t possibly be worse than Dragonball Evolution
Or Death Note by netflix XD
So true~😂
arbknight12 this movie came out a while ago there's already reviews and it's actually getting good reviews
Oh, well there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel then
Life finds a way.
Come on guys. This can't be worse than Death Note (Netflix)
fight night don't worry it has gotten positive reviews and is one of tge best live adaptation till now
fight night America made the death note movie
cant be worse than berserk 2016
fight night Death Note was better than most Americanized anime...
Have you heard of Dragonball Evolution 😂
fight night
Damn right! I hope that abhorrent death note with emo Kira and da gangsta hood L will flop and company made it go bankrupt
Nah man, I can't watch that centipede part again, especially not in live action.
They’re not going to far ahead probably in a sequel
Slickenzi Clamp god
They won't even reach it in a sequel. This one ends with the investigators so restaurant and aogiri parts will happen in a sequel if there ever will be one
dicecop I seen the movie too bro 😂
boomoperator90 I can't wait
ELOY MEGUCACUBIDEO
This actually looks pretty sick. I don't wanna jinx it but I'm excited
neither do I, hope most of the fanbase here keeps the same mindset.
wont be played in the uk tho
What, sick? Look at all the characters, they're completely different from the manga or Anime, it's disgusting looking
Bree jordan nah u trippin
I watched it and it was really good. It was way better than the anime and sometimes even better than the manga.
Interested yet hugely skeptical

Why all this dislikes!? It looks like the Manga and made by Japanese not Hollywood
Japanese make horrible movies. A big budget Hollywood adaptation would be a lot better.
Per S you clearly forgot dragonball evolution
The Japanese live action movies based on Anime are more good than bad.
They are not even close to Hollywoods movie adaptations of comic books. Look at The Dark Knight trilogy or Watchmen. Particularly the Watchman movie follows the comic very closely and is still amazing.
Per S Dragon Ball Evolution, Avatar movie, lets see what else ..oh yeah tekken smh 😒😑
It seems like they not only captured the gruesome tone of the anime/manga but also managed to get a great cast that perfectly captures the look and personality of their anime counterparts. I'm really excited for this
The thing about Live action anime/manga adaptations. They tend to actually be good when made in Japan.
Skaianet Clearly, you haven't seen Attack on Titan live action
Skaianet *Looks at Attack on Titan Live Action Movies*
Me: ...........
Hahaha
The Rurouni Kenshin live action movies were pretty great
Cristian Torrez that's a old a tire line when their are actually good Japanese adaptations like ruroni kenshin , I am hero and gantz .
A japanese movie with a decent budget, wow color me impressed
This live action has been reviewed very well, and has been said to have been the greatest anime adaptation ever made.
I'm not saying this is gonna be good... But the casting is impeccable
ikr the casting is spot on. I'm already liking Hinami, Touka and Mado's actors.
I just don't like the actor for Rize
Death note was my final straw. I have ZERO expectations for any anime live action. But that being said, i think you're right they focused on a lot of detail and it has earned my attention.
The casting is garbage. Japanese actors are chosen by popularity, not acting talent.
The moment the lead opened his mouth it was obvious.
I may be biased, but Japan is my home, so I know what Japanese is meant to sound like and this definitely isn't it.
Every line feels forced and unnatural. They're doing what they think they are meant to do, rather than actually becoming their characters.

Everyone gangsta till Touka stops looking like Touka
Daaaaaaaaang, the trailer really captured the morbid atmosphere of "Tokyo Ghoul", I like it!
This live action has realistic vibe to it....totally worth a shot.....
Hey, this looks faithful to the anime *cough cough, DEATH NOTE!*
Actually it is not faithful to the anime, but it is to the manga.
the anime is the worst shittiest trainwreck ever. How can people even like the anime? apart from the opening song?
Vito Scaletta It's ultra violent, has likable characters, and has a great plot.
The characters and plot are even better in the manga because the anime rushed through most of the character development making the anime feel edgy and juvenile where the manga was not. Also if you're into the violence the manga has more of that...
The movie is actually better than the manga and the anime. It's like a more mature and subtle take on the Tokyo Ghoul manga.
people like the anime because of the manga
This actually looks pretty nice. I’m going to go see it with my friend next week! Hype!

Death note
Dragon ball
Ghost in the shell
Attack on Titans
FMA:B

Fma:b didnt even come out yet and ghost in the shell is tough
Death note was a success, and I'm talking about the Japanese live action.
Abibyama Cri moar

Ok
"The best live-action anime adaptation to date" I don't think so. It really is hard to top Rurouni Kenshin's live action adaptation.
THIS DOESNT LOOK SO BAD IMA GIVE IT A CHANCE 🎉
This is more faithful than any other live action anime film.
Movie is actually great , i think . The actors did great job , cinematography and direction was cool enough . And the ost which is BANKA - illion is the best one omg . But the next one"Tokyo ghoul S" doesn't look that great honestly … But who knows , let's just hope
Hey, it can't be worse than the anime. I'm hyped!
That scene with Hiname, I cry every time.
All I want now that this to be the gateway to resurrecting the Anime series.
This looks pretty good
Well damn season 3 just got released now I have another Tokyo ghoul movie to wait for.

NOTE: I feel this should be seen only if you have seen the anime
I’m hyped looks like it might actually hold up
anyone here after re's ending?
Holy hell this looks better paced than the anime, more informative too
I'll watch it to support Sui Ishida, looks meh. Please read the manga if you're interested. It is masterful.

Still a better love story than Twilight.
This actually looks really good!
Don't tell me they chose this over a third season
Spirit Edge™
The third season is coming out in 2018
And yes they chose this over the third season which is why it got delayed
{The Inevitable} indeed
{The Inevitable} Where are people getting this information from that the 3rd season is coming in 2018?
Manuel Rios Shitty sources, they say that every year and it never comes. Besides what actual fan would want a 3rd season?
If a 12 episode series couldn't do the manga justice, I don't think a 90 minute movie will
NO WHITE ACTORS? YESSSS
David Pham you know most characters aren't even full Japanese lol
I was here to look at a disaster in the making; realized this actually looks like legitimately good adaption.
Done watching not perfect but better than expected ... Spoilers: Especially when Touka trained Kaneki

Now *THAT* is how you do a live action anime adaptation!
As always Japan like to makes movies that so much BLODDY HELL
If im watch this i think im gonna die cuz of rize eating kaneki😂
This looks amazing , Hollywood need to fund properties like this , it cud b like the new Zombie / Vampire trend
Tokyo Ghoul the Anime would have been much better.......
there is none, there was a pilot of the first tomes of the manga but nothing after that...
you mean that shoddily rushed adaptation that miserably tried to cram dozens of chapters into just a few episodes?
The anime is garbage. Shut up and watch the movie. It is way better.
Vito Scaletta thats the one.
do we have to like everything you like?
Waaw looks Amazing !
No white hair...no movie.
in a 2 hour film i dont think they reached that point tbh, pacing is everything
They can’t tease that tho
This film only adapts the first 3 volumes of the Manga. The white hair doesn't appear till 7.
likely if they do another one they'll cover it but they'll have to recast the actress for touka
david white
Why?? Does the actress have something against white hair?
Tokyo ghoul- everybody bending

They did good with Naruto. Only problem was the fillers. (which you can skip because the shows over)
I just watched the movie recently and it was an almost perfect adaptation of the manga. It improved on the manga in certain scenes and it felt more mature and subtle. The only bad thing about this movie was the CGI. Of course the anime was the complete opposite of this with it's really poor use of tone (something which was actually better in Root A) and rushed character development making the anime feel edgy, the generic art style didn't help.
Madhouse isn't as good as they used to be. Better to give it to Bones or Mappa, or even Shaft.
I loved the anime for Tokyo Ghoul, animation was great, voice acting was perfect, amazing ost, background art etc. The only complaint from me is that they cut things out, that's it :/
watched for Masataka Kubota. :) 2 hour movie, first hour was a hard to sit through, last hour was very interesting. hope they make more.
