I use 4 piece Fatalis and Frostfang helm, it's so good, getting 2 or 3 staggers in a hunt would net you some quality TCS . I like it more than my frostcraft set.
Sure thing! Focus 3 is super important. After that, start building for at least attack boost 4, and crit boost 3 (assuming you can at least hit 90% affinity on a tenderized/agitated weak spot).
@@Matadurr Will do! What other things should I prioritize after that? The three elder dragon quests after Nergigante have been giving us a lot of issues for sure.

While walking up against the hitbox, guard, then while holding guard roll away from the monster. 3. Lightly flick movement to now face the monster 4. Go though normal TCS cycle, if spaced right, your lead up slash on the TCS will miss, but the final hit will land. 5. Beeg numbers!
Thanks! The second build in this video uses frostcraft with the Black Fatalis Blade. It's designed more around the hit-and-run critical draw play style. There are variants of this that focus more on the TCS cycle though, and if you are wanting a more all-around one, go with the Shattersplitter with Velkhana essence so you can have 2-piece fatalis to get agitator 7. I've never thought about running frostcraft on hammer. But given how fast it sheathes, it's a possibility. I'll have to test and see just how much power reduction you suffer from on each hit. Biggest reason frostcraft works so well on Great Sword is because of the big damage modifiers on so few hits.
@@Matadurr oops didn’t even see frostcraft in this vid lol, i was pretty tired. i think a frostcraft build for every weapon would be fun because it works slightly different for each weapon. i’ve even seen it run on dual blades. hammer is one of my fav weapons in world, cant wait!
I've been playing Monster Hunter for a little while now and have shown your content to pretty much everyone that I know who plays as well haha. Doing a big collaborative stream this coming Saturday if you're down to join us!

Aw dang! Sad to say my old 2014 iMac can barely render my videos, let alone run something like MHW. :( Depending on the rumors coming true or not, I may be getting a PC to play Rise if it does indeed get ported to it. I’m spoiled by 4K at 60fps, going to 720p/1080p at 30fps is going to be a pain on Switch... But no, thank you! I appreciate the shoutout. I try to respond to all my comments. Sounds great! I’m getting in the habit of doing weekly community posts (at a minimum), and I try to be as transparent as possible. A detail like that definitely won’t be overlooked, so keep an eye on those if you haven’t already.
If i remember correctly my main file had well over 2000 hours, so the decorations just kind of came naturally over time. I would be careful about the decoration grind as it can be easy to burn yourself out. That said the tempered Teostra event quest in the Seliana Cache is the “easiest” way to farm high-tier decorations.
Nothing wrong with sticking with Anjanath. Has decent raw with some bonus fire damage for monsters weak to it (though the negative affinity does cause issues). If you’re still in base game and looking for a tree to follow to get into Master Rank though I would honestly go for the Girros tree just for the paralysis procs. Girros is also very easy to farm compared to Anjanath.

I'll have more on this probably in a community post. Long story shorter, I tried to see if I could "crash course" Long Sword (and many other weapons that are new to me) to learn it fast enough for a good guide. I found it would take me much longer to pick it up than I have time for, sadly. I'm having to fall back on a weapon I do still know how to play well for my 5th video. However, I'm hoping to pick up at least a couple additional weapons for Rise. It would be great to be at least somewhat competent in half of the weapon roster.
@@Matadurr Thanks for your dedication to the videos. Honestly I found your light bowgun and heavy bowgun build style to be the best videos I've seen. It really helped me a lot because I just started to practice light bowgun since this Thursday. However I have a question, light bowgun doesn't cover any rapid spread 3 or piece 3?
@@kenlam8765 appreciate it, they’re fun to make! And yes you’re correct, rapid fire spread 3/pierce 3 would be very broken if it was a thing (or locked behind both very high recoil/reload). The Aquashot is actually very good for pierce 3, I just personally don’t use pierce on LBG much.
They definitely are, though by the time I made most of my Iceborne videos for these builds, the tempered elder dragon quests in the Seliana cache were readily available for easier farming.
@@Matadurr Farmed them to only get one Attack + 4 from Teostra as he’s easier to deal with then the others, never doing Kushala doara again annoying and very windy. I’m still a long way until Good Decorations will drop for me
@@4hoursleep571 oh I don’t touch that Kushala quest unless I’m going in with a sticky HBG build. He’s such a chore in IB to fight. Much more enjoyable in SB.
@@Matadurr I couldn’t agree more about Kushala in SB, but no hate towards LBG/HBG users, They’re very great teammates and they make mistakes too like accidentally causing TCS, Encore, CB Discharge, and etc. to stumble or stagger and as for Sticky users I applaud them as in the end, Great teammates but no shame in using Sticky ammo we all need a helping hand at times but again it might make some hunts or some new players experience not fun or not as thrilling.
Due to the nature of being a build that uses Safi-Jiiva armor, whiffed hits will punish you with the health loss, yes. Stamina should still be the same as usual though so I’m not sure what you’re referring to.
@@Matadurr one last question for now I’ve noticed it’s kinda RNG for the on hit regen to activate is there a way to increase the chance of the regen with safi armour or is it only RNG
If memory serves me correctly my Frostcraft build was more geared toward critical draw cheese, but yes you’re right if you tend toward following the TCS cycle you would do better getting weakness exploit in there.
Biggest issue of Iceborne isn't even how you deal with things at the end, but getting there. The fact everything moves to Master rank instantly makes Iceborne a bit of a slog.
This is by design, as it is for any master rank expansion. The spike in difficulty from extra moves, more health, and more damage done from monsters does basically reset you to starting from base master rank armor for sure. But at least once you get a foothold, progression feels very much the same to base game.
Dude I swear it's dumb as hell that you're putting out videos of this quality while only being at a couple thousand views/subs Big fan of the MHW content, probs going to watch the Rise ones for when it comes out on PC
Hi, i have a question about the safi’s dreamsplitter build. How did you manage to activate Guts skill with only one part of Bazelgeuse set ? (Boots here). What did i miss ?
Are you still talking about Iceborne, or Rise? It’s difficult to hit much above 1000 in Rise right now because the game is still high rank and there’s not enough damage boosting skills to overcome the relatively low raw of the current weapons.
I opted for the full build info card instead of the condensed version due to it being both higher resolution and full of more data. The condensed versions for each build are readily available on my honeyhunter page.
i dont get why people use great sword besides it being hard to use or for fun its kinda... bad even with a perfect tcs it gets outplayed easily by other weapons give a monkey a controller and switch axe and he uses zsd and does more damage then a tcs combo i was looking into trying this weapon but it gets outplayed by every other weapon

Are you all on Xbox as well? Appreciate you spreading the word! I don’t currently stream (or have the equipment or demand for it at the moment), but I’d be happy to play some on Saturday. Is there a way I can direct message you on RUclips?
@@Matadurr We're all on PC! If you happen to have MHW for PC we'd love to have you aboard! If not, that's completely fine. Honestly I'm just glad you responded! Your content literally makes my day.
In regards to direct messaging, feel free to contact me through the email on my 'about' page!
Aw dang! Sad to say my old 2014 iMac can barely render my videos, let alone run something like MHW. :(
Depending on the rumors coming true or not, I may be getting a PC to play Rise if it does indeed get ported to it. I’m spoiled by 4K at 60fps, going to 720p/1080p at 30fps is going to be a pain on Switch...
But no, thank you! I appreciate the shoutout. I try to respond to all my comments. Might not be feasible if I ever get to something like 10k subs, but at the moment it’s more than manageable.
@@Matadurr Well with your content, you'll grow in no time. I'll be here on the sidelines cheering you and your 2014 iMac on! Regardless, if you ever do get the itch to play and find yourself in the company of a decent PC, my party always has room for just one more Matadurr.
But until then, I wish you the best in making your content! Every video is a treasure and I look forwards to seeing what you create. :)
Sounds great! I’m getting in the habit of doing weekly community posts (at a minimum), and I try to be as transparent as possible. A detail like that definitely won’t be overlooked, so keep an eye on those if you haven’t already.
i litereally just got iceborn credits done rolling about to go get kirin didnt even know thre was this many weapons
How do you have so many decorations bro I don’t ever get the specific ones. You have any tips on what to grind for decorations?
If i remember correctly my main file had well over 2000 hours, so the decorations just kind of came naturally over time. I would be careful about the decoration grind as it can be easy to burn yourself out. That said the tempered Teostra event quest in the Seliana Cache is the “easiest” way to farm high-tier decorations.
@@Matadurrthank you a lot bro honestly for the response
As a new player i currently have the anjanath great sword on wich tree should i focus?
Nothing wrong with sticking with Anjanath. Has decent raw with some bonus fire damage for monsters weak to it (though the negative affinity does cause issues). If you’re still in base game and looking for a tree to follow to get into Master Rank though I would honestly go for the Girros tree just for the paralysis procs. Girros is also very easy to farm compared to Anjanath.
@@Matadurr ty i will keep that in mind!
what's that layered armor your using its clean af
Safi-Jiiva. :)
Could I replace kjarr weapon in the element build? Is it good?
Can’t go wrong with the kjarr for definitely ice and fire. I’d stay away from dragon kjarr though because of how powerful Alatreon’s is.
How good are these Great sword builds mostly the black dragon ones?
Fatalis builds tend to be the most powerful, especially if you can work in Frostcraft for TCS spam. All of them are viable in their own way, though.
@@Matadurr hey thank you for responding and the tip
what armor/layered armor/mod are u using? :OOO
Safi Jiiva layered armor, as well as the Wiggler Head layered, of course. :)
@@Matadurr Thank you for the quick response! You've actually convinced me to go back to MHW, now that I've pretty much finished MHR. I'm loving all the content you produce. You're a top tier Monster Hunter content creator and I hope your channel blows up and gets the recognition it deserves! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you bud! Don't forget me when you've reached the top!
@@EarlyPeso hey I really appreciate it! I only wish I could make more content in a timely fashion. Very difficult while working full time. I will say I’ll do whatever I can, when I can! If you ever want more detailed updates be sure to check out our Discord! ;)
This man could sell me a car
Any greatsword players still here? How worth it is focus for gameplay, I find it kind of hard to slot with my decos rn.
Focus is a core skill, definitely worth sacrificing other skills if needed as being able to shorten charge times enables many more attack windows.
how can I get a wywern impact silver? I like design of this gs so much. Im just start playing this game like a week but i like u content too
ps. sry for my bad english : )
You need to start with the event quest “Every Hunter’s Dream”. After you get enough materials from that, do the event quest “Every Hunter’s Dream III”. Good luck!
Don't you also need the Unity Symbols from the Zinogre/Namielle quest? Or is that only for the layer?
Will you do video about longsword build?
These are all great builds and work so well but the cost is very expensive and endgame luckily for me I have 1/999999 of the decorations I need
@@Matadurr I couldn’t agree more about Kushala in SB, but no hate towards LBG/HBG users, They’re very great teammates and they make mistakes too like accidentally causing TCS, Encore, CB Discharge, and etc. to stumble or stagger and as for Sticky users I applaud them as in the end, Great teammates but no shame in using Sticky ammo we all need a helping hand at times but again it might make some hunts or some new players experience not fun or not as thrilling.
whats name of the set builder softwaree?
HoneyHunter. Sadly the site no longer functions. :(
Another question is the fire build supposed to have low health and stamina?
Due to the nature of being a build that uses Safi-Jiiva armor, whiffed hits will punish you with the health loss, yes. Stamina should still be the same as usual though so I’m not sure what you’re referring to.
@@Matadurryeah your right like my fatalis gear builds/your builds have more health n stuff
@@Matadurr one last question for now I’ve noticed it’s kinda RNG for the on hit regen to activate is there a way to increase the chance of the regen with safi armour or is it only RNG
@@TheDraganer it’s actually not RNG, it’s a set number of hits to land before the regen happens. :) that’s why missed hits suck
@@Matadurrgood to know by any chance how many hits?
in the Frostcraft build you don't use Weakness Exploit, why don"t use it?
If memory serves me correctly my Frostcraft build was more geared toward critical draw cheese, but yes you’re right if you tend toward following the TCS cycle you would do better getting weakness exploit in there.
Is there a insect glave or hammer build coming one day?
Check the end of the video. ;)
@@Matadurr ok
Biggest issue of Iceborne isn't even how you deal with things at the end, but getting there. The fact everything moves to Master rank instantly makes Iceborne a bit of a slog.
This is by design, as it is for any master rank expansion. The spike in difficulty from extra moves, more health, and more damage done from monsters does basically reset you to starting from base master rank armor for sure. But at least once you get a foothold, progression feels very much the same to base game.
Dude I swear it's dumb as hell that you're putting out videos of this quality while only being at a couple thousand views/subs
Big fan of the MHW content, probs going to watch the Rise ones for when it comes out on PC
Much appreciated, I only wish I had time to make more!
Hi, i have a question about the safi’s dreamsplitter build. How did you manage to activate Guts skill with only one part of Bazelgeuse set ? (Boots here). What did i miss ?
Great question, Bazel essence is one of the awakening skills on the GS itself, allowing that skill to activate with only one armor piece.
Insect Glaive we need one lol 😂
🤔... Hammer up next??
You know it! (If you haven’t seen the teaser at the end of the video)
Just got this game DL and can't wait to learn the greatsword! I'm on ps5 if anyone is willing to help a fella out so I'm not fumbling around too much?
bro for sleep i use the cat solo sometimes i get 4 sleeps a fight its insane i just use the weapon that looks like s space ship for the cat
Yeah I think that’s Radobaan’s weapon. Good stuff!
man i used to be so mad cause i could only hit 2k dmg on great sword but now on my new account i can only hit 1.3 k dmg at max
Are you still talking about Iceborne, or Rise? It’s difficult to hit much above 1000 in Rise right now because the game is still high rank and there’s not enough damage boosting skills to overcome the relatively low raw of the current weapons.
How does your game look so good ? 😮
All of this footage was recorded in 4K/60fps from an Xbox Series X.
Bruh do you have background in sales?
I take that as a compliment. ;) But no, I do not.
after all, Why not.
why shouldn’t I subscribe.
Welcome aboard!
Those diagrams of the builds are a little confusing.
I opted for the full build info card instead of the condensed version due to it being both higher resolution and full of more data. The condensed versions for each build are readily available on my honeyhunter page.
i dont get why people use great sword besides it being hard to use or for fun
its kinda... bad even with a perfect tcs it gets outplayed easily by other weapons give a monkey a controller and switch axe and he uses zsd and does more damage then a tcs combo
i was looking into trying this weapon but it gets outplayed by every other weapon
I love you
"And I love you, random citizen!"
So... not for beginners lol
