I sang this song to my wife on our honeymoon , can never forget this one .he had a voice like no other, what a shame he had to leave us. I'll always remember Lefty frizzell.

I was born in Liverpool in the 1950s and raised on Lefty as well as Hank Sr as well as other other top c&w artists of that time! I cry whenever I hear this! So very special! We will never have the likes of these artistes ever again!
Lefty Frizzell had as many songs as Hank Williams in the early 1950's. Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb, Roy Acuff, Lefty Frizzell, and few others is the country music we'll never get back. I know I'm from today's generation but my soul is old and I must say, in this day and age Jake Penrod is probably the only one who sings the songs of the legends, I believe he's sung a couple songs by the Father of Country Music Jimmie Rodgers.
This song was one of my mothers favorites . She would sing this song while cooking, or cleaning around the house. Brings back alot of beautiful memories of my sweet mother.
@@jonsnitsky3421 If you grew up in them days, you'd be pushing eighty...or passing it. I'd rather have missed those times, and been born in your day, and shave 50+ years off. As one who grew up in the late-50's & 60's, Lefty was not readily available to many. Radio was the main source of music, and Lefty was played randomly...with many more artists. My appreciation for Lefty, only came in the 80's, when maturity & beer, and relationships were made and destroyed in one night. Lefty personified a large portion of adult males in his music. Other than his great delivery, if you like the music/lyrics as much, chances are...you can relate.🤠
I was too young in the ‘50’s to even know about a jukebox… but I wish I had been old enough to have heard that sound!!! I have always wished I had been born sooner to have have come of age before 1950!!!
In Sept 1947 a 19 year old kid sitting in a New Mexico jail wrote a song to his wife, begging her to stay with him. This is the song, backside of " If You Got The Money I Got The Time", this is the song but not the original one as this is dated 1959. You can get the original; go to U-TUBE, ask for the song and ask for 1950. It will come up first. Run time is 2:48 min. Two days before Christmas 1950, his first recording "If you got the money, I got the time" went to #1 position. After Christmas "I love you 1000 ways" went to #1 position on the DJ charts. July 18, 1975 he had a stroke that night, and suffered another one on the way to the hospital. He never recovered. Born Mar 31, 1928, died July 19, he was 47 years old. He was one of my favorites in the '50's. I was born 1929.
Thanks Luckenbach Texas 7499 for all these Lefty oldies, remembering when i first heard "Mom and Dad" when i was in Coast Guard Boot Camp 1963 thinkin about my Mom and Dad, please keep all those Old Country songs playin
Lots of folks know this, some don't, so... James "Slim" Hand grew up around Lefty, learned from him, and is still playin at venues and making real country recordings now. He's an original.
Charlie LaFayette Nice to see a comment from someone that can call me a kid...lol You're from 1932, if my math works...I'm from `54. That's not too much difference today, but back then, you were old enough to be my father. Nice to hear "still together" after 52 yrs...that's special. ...all my best
once again I have to ask ,why do we have to loose all these wonderful singers in their prime ,I,certainty feel robbed ,lucky we have people devoted to preserving their memories in music ,thanks,
earl slot your lucky to have been in that time, I wasn't born till 1960, but my daddy USTA play all these song's in his band and I grew up listening so I was lucky in that way, now I couldn't live without listening to Lefty's music that's what I'm doing on here now, Lefty's my favorite, just because of his old beautiful style, I can't hear it enough.
Oh this is what country sounds like .. haha .. great album. I have it on original viynl .. and 500 other classic country artist albums .. here's to real Country music..
My parents loved Lefty and they sent me to the record shop in 1966 to collect this album for them. I was 11 years old at that time and my parents were so deeply into C&w ,especially Hank williams /Lefty Frizell/Hank snow.
what a beautiful tune brings back memories. I was listening to this and more of his music in the 80's when I was a kid. Kids in school used to laugh at me for it but I didn't care I love this music and always will Thanks Lefty for all your awesome music
Nothing wrong with realizing that something is good, I think this song by lefty is one of the most beautiful songs ever written, and was written by lefty when he was in jail to his wife hence the part near the end where he says wait until I'm free, this was a plea to his wife to forgive him for having a fling with a young girl, anyway its a song from his heart to his wife and that makes it a true beautiful song.
I was stationed at Barksdale Air Force, Base in Bossier City, La; and either '51 or '52, Lefty put on a show for the servicemen that a hanger was the only building large enough to accommodate all the people. I believe it was because of the Korean war. As I remember, there was no charge.
i heard merle talk about listening to lefty frizzell so i had to go check him out..i believe merle has leftys sound..both very good...David frizzell also very good. Miss them all
Thank you , David . A great rendition. My father used to sing this song to my mother in the 1950s , in Singapore ! Thanks to Lefty . I sing this to my darling wife often , and I am 77 .
Piano sounds like Floyd Cramer, I believe it is? This kinds of country has disappeared.Oh what a sound this man had... his voice was the real deal. Oh the memories that song brings back
Thank you, LT, for posting this. Great! I have a copy of Merle doing this song live taped from a KVOO broadcast of the Tulsa Opry, circa '79 or so. It's a good one, too. Great song!
I've only listened to this about 5000 times now....
His brother Allen Frizzell sounds so much like Lefty. Real country music talent. Their legacy lives on.
I sang this song to my wife on our honeymoon , can never forget this one .he had a voice like no other, what a shame he had to leave us. I'll always remember Lefty frizzell.
❤
Long and happy life and marriage my friend❤

Lefty... still one of a kind. He passed the year I was born, but still my favorite.
I was born in Liverpool in the 1950s and raised on Lefty as well as Hank Sr as well as other other top c&w artists of that time! I cry whenever I hear this! So very special! We will never have the likes of these artistes ever again!

He was the best country singer ever!!!There is only Lefty!!!
Good song. Good voice too....

Zo klonk het vroeger ook bij Eus. Mooie muziek
I remember playing this version at my first girlfriends house back in 1983.Don Helms intro brings me right back.
I was 12 years old in 1959 but, I remember liking Lefty's music. Still a great country sound.
Same to me, Jim
I was 8 years old in 1959, and I was the queen of the jukebox... I'd drop all my change in and play Lefty's songs.❤❤❤
Lefty has 8 or 10 songs that I would have a hard time choosing from for my top 25 favorites. This is one of them.
a true country music artist
Country at its best
A lot of dimes was spent on this song in the 50's.....There wasn't a juke box playing across the USA that this was not playing 24/7 365.
H
Loved you then, baby, love you still.
Lots of folks know this, some don't, so... James "Slim" Hand grew up around Lefty, learned from him, and is still playin at venues and making real country recordings now. He's an original.

I'm sure they had no idea what real music was, didilajousky, just like the majority of people today.
I like Ferlin Husky, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, too.
Lefty was really something; his voice was just wonderful.
Gotta add Jim Reeves....
