My first tarantula was a Brazilian black named Tito, and I got him as a baby back in March. He's SO BIG now and the biggest sweetheart! I'm not a fan of handling tarantulas, but I'll open the door of his enclosure to look at him up close sometimes, and he'll just softly walk over to me and lay two of his legs on my hand for a few minutes, then go back to hanging out. The first time it happened, I called my husband and was like "OMG BABE! WE HELD HANDS! ME AND TITO ARE FOREVER! AHHHHH!" Love my Tito!!
That's nice, but to get a pulcra right now is close to impossible, be it adult or spiderling. Last time i checked it was 250-650 bucks for an adult. And they are out of sale everywhere😒 Now wonder EL has three of them, buy them at sight🕷️
@@andylaw3222 I believe it! I bought Tito as a sling for $85 + shipping on FearNotTarantulas (they had an adult in stock last time I checked a few weeks ago). The price is definitely steep, but I knew that going into it and really wanted the perfect beginner tarantula. This one seemed like the best choice. So glad I got him when I did! He'll always be my baby ❤
Whenever someone asks me my recommendation for their first T, I always recommend the T. albo. It was my first T, so I am a bit biased. Since I'm new to the hobby, my favorite beginner Tarantula is the L Parahybana. Mine is a eating machine, likes the open space, but remains in hiding whenever I'm doing maintenance or whatever. The growth rate is really good and it is a very hardy species that, I think, is very easy to care for. Love the video, Kat, stay safe and take care👍.
Awesome video of your best beginner tarantulas. They are all so cute. I remember you getting Mew 1, 2, 3, 4. I didn't realise I'd been watching you for that long. I do enjoy your views on how you take care of them, the pros and cons. I watch a few invert channels anyway, and enjoy hearing the ups and downs within the hobby. I generally love all animals, and would probably own a zoo if I had the money (well it's good to dream)I find there's a pro and con to most things, but it's always good to be aware. Awesome video.
My first tarantula is the B. hamorii, named mine Mabon! Got it as a sling and is now a larger sling with color. I have to agree, I found 2 E. campestratus slings last year and I am so glad I snatched them up because I haven’t seen them again on the vendors’ lists that I normally trust.
Yeah the aphonopelma seemanni is my pick. My third tarantula and my first non sling. Very chill, low maintenance, never kicks hair, good eater, rather cheap. Cons for me are that they are fairly secretive ( I see mine if I stay up particularly late). Mine's named zeeb ( don't judge I'm not the best with names my red knee is called hammy and my curly hair is called frizzy lol )
How did you know I was binging your old videos because I am receiving my first T soon?!?! You were the first spider channel I followed when I adopted my first jumping spider 🖤
I love that the 3 tarantulas I have are in this video😭 my first 2 I won in a giveaway so I had a B Hamori that was a teeny tiny sling and a G Pulcra I got as a larger sling, then my sister got me a GBB for my birthday last month. Love all my little spooder babies 🖤🖤
You by far are the most underrated RUclipsr ever, I only watched a few of your videos, and I already have locked in on getting a Grammostola Pulchra, mainly because of how beautiful they look, and I also can't believe a Grammostola Pulchra are a New World species, which in some cases means you can pick them up and let them crawl on your hands quite a fair bit.
Awesome top 5 beginner favourites you got there! I'm happy that GBB is in the list lol. My first were a pair of G. Pulchripes and they were absolutely amazing.
Such an awesome video im getting my first tarantula on Monday so I was searching on their care your vids are really awesome im getting a rose or a mexican red knee and im already subscribed love your info i cant wait for my new tarantula 😁
I got my first tarantula Aphonopelma Seemanni for my 17th birthday, still scared to hold him but he’s pretty chill, I call him my pet rock because he’s rarely to be seen moving, I always get so excited to see him moving, I’ve got a Phidippus Audax that I found dehydrated in my mailbox, she’s really sweet and loves to crawl around on my hands.
Grammostola Pulchra is my favourite too!! Mine was my first ever tarantula. Her name is Legsi and she just turned Black. She's very feisty and she always redecorates her home. She does not tolerate handeling but she is very friendly and never kicks her hair. She'll wave at me.
My first T was a Chilean Rose Hair. I got her as a full grown adult (age unknown) and had her for an additional 10 years. She was really awesome, always hanging out in the open, allowed handling, and typically ate with gusto (except when she fasted for almost a year).
Tliltocatl albopilosus is still my #1 recommendation for beginners. Easy to find, cheap, easy to take care of, and grows quickly (all of mine went from 1~1.5 in. DLS to over 4 in. DLS in under a year). Super cute. They do kick hairs though.
My first spider was a Pterinochilus murinus, and shortly after I got a Heteroscodra maculata . Both beautiful ladies , I love watching their enclosures develope . Thanks to you , Richard , Dave (little beasties ) for all the info , support and help. Excited to add more to my collection.
I just received today two Aphonopelma hentzi slings to add to my collection. I have a couple of A. chalcodes too, and have told my nephews and nieces that in order to inherit my money they will also need to take care of my tarantulas after I shuffle off this mortal coil :)
I have 10 Ts (along with 4 true spiders, and 2 scorps) and my absolute favorite in my collection is my G pulchra (who is kinda in between sling and juvie but almost has its full coloration. Hoping for it to be female as it was a dream T for a long time.) It is the most sweet, curious, interactive little invert I own. Will run over whenever I mess with anything in its container to investigate and eats like a machine. Second of my Ts would be my juvie suspect male A chalcodes. Also super sweet. (Unless in pre-molt. I got a threat pose yesterday for bothering him. lol) I know many people suggest T albo but both of the ones I have are really grouchy, won't hesitate it kick hair, and I've even gotten a threat pose from my sub-adult female. My GBB is also quite defensive.
Thank you for this video! I forgot that this was on the top of my first wish list. I just got 10 tarantulas yesterday! I guess I’m going to have to place another order
My first T was my GBB! I named them Tarantula-lena! And all of my T's are still really small. Tarantula-lena is the biggest they still have their orange and black baby colors.
I would love to see a video on what the best Old World tarantulas are to get for the people who are getting into old world keeping :)) I love all your videos btw!❤️
Love the upload! At 8:51 I noticed your tattoo. Is it "Atoli" from the :DotHack Series? If so that's hella fresh, been watching for over a year keep it up 💪🏼
I just got a caribena versicolor, G. pulchra, and G. pulchripes and I've had a G. Rosea for almost 10 years🥰 even after getting my rosea i had terrible arachnophobia and just recently got over it and started getting more in my collection thanks to your videos 🥰❤ you made me realize I wasn't housing my rosea correctly for a long time and now she is happier than ever !
My daughter has a fascination with spiders of lately. She loves all animals for the most part. She held an Emperor Scorpion not long ago, and enjoyed it. She likes looking at all the spiders and tarantulas, insects, etc. She catches spiders outside to look at and then releases. Not sure where to start.
First T was a rose hair(F) from there I got a curly hair(M) both are amazing. They are so nice and calm. Ferocious eaters. These 2 T's were awesome for my young son and handling. Out of my whole collection, I still regularly show these guys attention. They have a special place in my heart. My OBT won't even let me look it's way.
I have all of these except for #1 😂 Out of these G. Pulchra is definitely my personal favorite. I just recently got a sub adult A. Seemani at NARBC. My daughter named it Ghost, I suspect it’s male, and he definitely keeps me on my toes.
1st T since getting back in the hobby was a gbb she is still my favourite little monster :) just got a xenethis sp light juvenile yesterday aswell as a A.Rufa now we have 28 Ts and 2 jumping spiders with more to come as my teen kids now want jumping spiders of there own to build up to the T hobby aswell 😀
Can you list these in the description? I'm interested in keeping one but its hard to know exact how to spell some of the species you're talking about. Thanks
I was a little scared (not super scared but pretty creeped out) by spiders and this really helped me! in fact I'm even considering getting a jumping spider.
My B boehmei has been a breeze. A little hair kicky in the beginning but she soon settled down after her first molt a few months after I got her. She hardly hides, is pretty chill when I do any sort of maintenance, and has been a great eater. My A seemani is a teeny tiny sling so I have a few decades before it grows up 😂
Hello Tarantula Kat, I am a boy Who as Always been afraid of spiders, not mices or snakes, but looking Whit emphaty at the love you have whith your animals, you are an valid antidote for those Who are aracnophobic, an a Splendid example to love for non-domestic Animals. Thank you. I am Italian and my language no perfect... Have a nice day👍
I have to get that pink zebra one now! I've been looking for my first one after my mom said I should get one to help her with arachnophobia since I already love spiders
I have a GBB too (Queenie). She doesn't kick her hair but she sure gives me her posture. I also have a Brazilian Black (Inky) and she's got "chicken" DNA! When I open her (I hope) cage to feed her, she runs into her hide, so brave! Lol! :-) Merry Christmas and Happy New year to you and all your family!!!! :-)
I just got my first Tarantula back in August and it’s a Grammostola pulchra. I’m hoping for a female and right now, “her” name is Vira. “She’s” molted twice now and is already the size of a half dollar. Very skittish but friendly and always ready to eat. Loves pooping in her water bowel too which is low key annoying 😅 but I still love “her.”
i bought an Aphonapelma seemani as my first tarantula about 1 and a half years ago but now looking back on it there were some red flags i ignored, like the size and price it was a 5" T for €25 or about 30 dollars. needless to say they died within a month of me recieving them so it likely was wild caught and sick or a really mature male or just both. take my advice and pay the extra money because its less likely wild caught, sick or old.
About 35 years ago I had a pink toe or pink knee can’t remember now and I got bit found out I was extremely allergic got rushed into hospital stopped breathing was really sick 🤮 for 2 weeks solid I gave him to a friend of mine who has hundreds of different Ts I’d love a gooty sapphire but obviously I can’t have one so I just watch your videos and enjoy there beauty in safety lol 😂 xx
I looked everywhere for an E.campestratus, and luckily found an adult female a couple of years ago. She turned out to be the most defensive T I have owned. Opposite of what I was expecting. She’ll threat posture if I even open the lid on her enclosure. She’s not moulted with me so hopefully she’s due to this coming year.
my first spider was G pulchra. he's not very calm. neither is my T albopilosus, T schroederi or L parahybana haha my calmest one is my Aphonopelma chalcodes. my first OW was my Chilobrachys fimbriatus. had 0 problems with her and she's always very cooperative with rehouses. never threw a threat posture or anything.
I hope one day I can have a pet tarantula!! I wouldn't care what species it Is as long as it's a new world because the old world would be too challenging to start. My coworkers asked why I would want a tarantula because "they don't have personality" but let me just say some tarantulas seem to have quite a big personality
This vid made me tear up. I want a mother T I think I’m ready I had my Rosie “Itsy” for 15 years and I’m just scared I’ll never find another like her again she never bit or flicked once and was held by so many people :(
Grammostola pulchra, hands down!! In polish arachno boards this species is classified as intermediate, due to keepers mistakes in husbandry mostly. But I disagree! Pulchras are so calm and sweet tarantulas! Yes, they are real beasts when it comes to feeding, but otherwise - oh my God! My G. pulchra is the only T that I am not afraid to handle or do something in her enclosure. She's so calm and chill, and sweet! ❤️ And kinda rare and pricey, so I'm very happy I have her 😁
@@tarantulakat And that's the point - anything that other tarantulas will do. You know there are descriptions etc and they're no different than the one for G. rosea or A. seemani, f. e. Differences are only in humidity and temperature (which is normal, right?) i don't get why they're considered intermediate.
I'm here to find out what I need to do I'm new to spiders I have always have had snakes but I love spiders and I've decided to look into buying my first spider but everywhere I look they hide all the time and which don't get me wrong the #1 was the jumping spider but I want something a little bigger and one u can watch u know
I think I would say Tlitocatl albopilosus still, easy/cheap to find easy to look after, good eaters, dont grow super slow, mostly pretty calm etc. but I dont have any experience of E campostratuses I use to always say any Brachypelma too but this last year or so Ive started to get way more sensitive to their hair and my boehmei and hamorii both kick like crazy and Im finding it kindve hard to deal w them basically Ive realised that icchy hair kickers are a bigger deal than I use to think
I don't have any experience with the spiders or taranlutas but i was hoping that i can keep one as my 1st pet soo what do experience people advice me on this and also what if they bite? Is there any problem or anything like that
my grammostola pulchra sling has been in premolt now for almost a year, refusing to eat or do much at all 💀 I just want a big beautiful black T already, sigh
I'm considering getting a t but I'm also scared at large spiders which is a problem. So I'd need one that's super easy to look after, is really slow moving as I know I'd freak out if one suddenly ran at me, slow growing and preferably doesn't get too big.
Why does no one hardly talk about the Aphonopelma hentzi?? I literally find them in my yard and can play with them with minimal fear. At least the wild ones I experience hardly ever kick hair or go into defensive posture. They usually just try to run away from you no matter what you do. Not pretty and they don’t stand out in anyway but they’re pretty tame even as wild ones
What's your favorite "Beginner Tarantula Species" and did they make it into my video?
Velcro my T Albo was my first and she is adorable ❤️
Mine was a LP Brazilian Salmon Pink, which I knew barely anything about 25-26 years ago. It matured to a male and passed away. I found out through books ( yep feels like the stone ages). Obviously times have changed, information is more available, store shops I avoid, and buy from breeders, and I now own 6 LPs and a Chilean Rose amongst others.
aphonopelma seemanni
i think my a. gen was the most exciting T that i owned early on. for me they have been bold, have a great food response, sassy, fast and large growers and the bonus is that they are always out.
that for me makes them a really wonderful T to begin with. not one if you want a docile T/ one that you can handle - nonetheless fantastic to watch and see develop.
edit: they are also practically bullet-proof and do fine in a standard terrestrial set up with a full water dish and some extra misting near a molt.

Wicked great video o'stuning T's .. Ty ..
My first was a GBB and my second A. chalcodes and than I bought 3 at once 😅 Caribena versicolor, Cyriocosmus elegans and Psalmopoeus irminia
I am a new viewer and u need to know that you are awesome and i love ur videos so much 💚💚💚
I looked everywhere for an E.campestratus, and luckily found an adult female a couple of years ago. She turned out to be the most defensive T I have owned. Opposite of what I was expecting. She’ll threat posture if I even open the lid on her enclosure. She’s not moulted with me so hopefully she’s due to this coming year.
My aphonopelma seemani is incredibly aggressive. Like, similar to Old World aggression. I also bought her for around 25 bucks as a sub adult.
I'm getting my first rose hair sling soon. Will I need a heating lamp or rock ? My house normally sits at 70 but can drop to 65
Great list
Our first tarantula was a curly hair then we got a straight horn baboon and now a black and white Brazilian as well as a apalchicola jumping spider 🕷
The Zebra legs will have to do, currently I'm working building an army.
My first spider I had as a pet was a small wolf spider I caught outside
I'm really surprised G.Rosea was not on your list. Those seem to be everywhere. And was my first spider. I am interested in the bottle blue though.
My juvenile A seemanni is one of the most defensive and skittish spoods I own
I just a adopted an Antilles pink toed today 😊
I was looking for the tarantula part of youtube
The orange baboon tarantula is my favorite beginner.
my first spider was G pulchra. he's not very calm. neither is my T albopilosus, T schroederi or L parahybana haha my calmest one is my Aphonopelma chalcodes. my first OW was my Chilobrachys fimbriatus. had 0 problems with her and she's always very cooperative with rehouses. never threw a threat posture or anything.
Very nice tarantula ❤❤❤
My first one was a brachy albiceps ☺️
I hope one day I can have a pet tarantula!! I wouldn't care what species it Is as long as it's a new world because the old world would be too challenging to start. My coworkers asked why I would want a tarantula because "they don't have personality" but let me just say some tarantulas seem to have quite a big personality
This vid made me tear up. I want a mother T I think I’m ready I had my Rosie “Itsy” for 15 years and I’m just scared I’ll never find another like her again she never bit or flicked once and was held by so many people :(
Nice video, no where near E. campestratus in price range, though I cannot wait to get my pulchra (I need one)
A.geniculata hands down prolly the best beginner just because of how hearty it is and its feeding responces, strong second is the GBB
❤️ And kinda rare and pricey, so I'm very happy I have her 😁
Really? Their husbandry is very simple. Curious what they say it requires 🤔
@@tarantulakat And that's the point - anything that other tarantulas will do. You know there are descriptions etc and they're no different than the one for G. rosea or A. seemani, f. e. Differences are only in humidity and temperature (which is normal, right?) i don't get why they're considered intermediate.
where are the cubes from and how did you make the holes
I NEED A TARUNTULA IN MA LIFE!
My favorite when I was starting was my togo lol..
I'm here to find out what I need to do I'm new to spiders I have always have had snakes but I love spiders and I've decided to look into buying my first spider but everywhere I look they hide all the time and which don't get me wrong the #1 was the jumping spider but I want something a little bigger and one u can watch u know
I think I would say Tlitocatl albopilosus still, easy/cheap to find easy to look after, good eaters, dont grow super slow, mostly pretty calm etc. but I dont have any experience of E campostratuses
I use to always say any Brachypelma too but this last year or so Ive started to get way more sensitive to their hair and my boehmei and hamorii both kick like crazy and Im finding it kindve hard to deal w them basically Ive realised that icchy hair kickers are a bigger deal than I use to think
I don't have any experience with the spiders or taranlutas but i was hoping that i can keep one as my 1st pet soo what do experience people advice me on this and also what if they bite? Is there any problem or anything like that
@tarantulakat
Where is it that you reside because here GBBs are like 150 for a sling
Be here I meant Los Angeles California
very good vid
my grammostola pulchra sling has been in premolt now for almost a year, refusing to eat or do much at all 💀 I just want a big beautiful black T already, sigh
I'm considering getting a t but I'm also scared at large spiders which is a problem.
So I'd need one that's super easy to look after, is really slow moving as I know I'd freak out if one suddenly ran at me, slow growing and preferably doesn't get too big.
Aphonopelma chalchodes! So docile and calm. Slow growing. Easy care.
@@lindsaymcmuffin I'll look into them, thank you ☺️
@@sashascarah6533what did they Say?
It’s the G Pulchripes. Hands down.
Is a gramestola rosea a good beginner spider
is a mexikna red knee a good beginner tarantula
My sling GBB doesn’t even have a hide
Are there any Brachypelma who are not labeled by IUCN or CITES as threatened/endangered?
32 comment awesome video today kat you are the best and the greatest you always inspire me everyday 👍💪💯💪💪👍👍💪💪💯💪💪
Where is a good place to get one for a beginner
My first Tarantula was a chaco golden knee and I gave her the name goldie
