    You’re website is the best. If you google a receipt you’re likely to get a site where you have to read about the person’s life story before you get to the receipt. You’re site is no bs receptive right there and free! You the man!

      shawnbixby1 I know, that’s the reason I hate a lot of these cooking blogs. It may be nice if I’m a fan of the blog but if i just googled a recipe, I’m not trying to hear about how your kids helped you make it or the funny story about your grandma accidentally creating this recipe or how it reminds you of some dumb tv show. I just want the recipe, damnit. Lol.

    Hi! Thank you for this recipe. I thought my late husband was the only one that put mayonnaise in while cooking. He'd put it in even if I'd already put in sour cream, and milk, into a recipe.
    With the hot sauce in it he would have loved this. Although he might have added a fork full of horseradish to it too.
    Thanks for reminding me of my late husband. I'm crying and smiling. He would have loved this dish. Think I'll make it tomorrow. :'-}

    I made this tonight and it was fantastic!!!! If anyone comes across this and is just thinking about making it... you must! It was difficult to make at all... beats anything I've ever made with a can of mushroom soup. Thank you so much for posting. Oh ya, I also took his suggestion and went to his website to print out the recipe. I will be visiting more of your recipes. If they are even half as good as this one I will be happy. I am sure they will exceed my expectations. I used my 12 inch cast iron skillet but you could make this easy in a 9 x 13 pan. Good show!!!

    I was born and raised in Detroit but my parents were from the deep south. And they were older than most parents with kids in the sixties and seventies. My mom made big fluffy biscuits and tasty gravy without milk. I wish you would show more videos like this. Money is going to be tight for families in the future and old 'fashion recipes' like this will help them survive the bad time. Love you and and your family!

    Larry, this creamy, rich, deep-flavored chicken dish would be easy to make into a low-carb dinner. I would substitute heavy cream (thinned a bit with water) to substitute for the milk. Then I'd simply add my low-carb breadcrumbs for a topping! I'm saving this to my "Favorites!" It's too good to pass up!

    • @TheWolfePit
      @TheWolfePit  7 лет назад +1

      John, I don't think you would need to thin the heavy cream, let it reduce a bit to thicken like I did in my LC sausage gravy. That way you can avoid the roux as well!!! Please let me know how you like it!! Thanks for watching!

    Hey TheWolfePit, started watching your videos a couple weeks ago or so and I love them! I'm in college right now so food is an interesting subject to say the least. Cooking on a budget is very much needed. I'm moving into an apartment soon that will have a kitchen (currently in a dorm) and I'll finally be able to cook and not eat out or eat microwave food every day! I plan on using some of these recipes if I can make time to prepare food. Though it may be a bit boring for your taste (totally not a pun), have you thought about making some good crock-pot recipes? Crock pots seem like a good way to start your cooking before classes and having them ready by the time you get back. I'm trying to eat healthy but at the same time be cost efficient as well as time efficient. Just throwing it out there.

    Definitely going on my To Do list!
    There's about a bajillion recipes for chicken casserole (esp in the South) but this one skillet method is the winner!! A very versatile dish that can easily be tweaked as desired, and real comfort food on a cool fall or winter's day.
    And no worries Larry, you *are* a genius (more or less) in my professional opinion - no matter what psychosis your parents may have accidentally given you in your youth ;)

    • @BROUBoomer
      @BROUBoomer 4 года назад +1

      Hi Arianna Nicole!
      I see you posted your question a year ago, but I just found this recipe. Do you have an enameled cast iron Dutch oven? Get one at Walmart around the holidays for about $30 to $50, or so. They are amazing! Easy to clean but retains heat and sturdy cast iron. You can start cooking on the stovetop and finish in the oven no problem. Make sure you have sturdy trivets for the table, because you can serve from them too. I got mine about 20 years ago, from Aldi's. But their merchandise is inconsistent, I've never seen another one there since.
      Get one large enough for your size family, or larger. You never know when company will just show up, and you need room to thin things out to feed more people. They are great for slowly cooking bean dishes too.
      You can also try an all stainless steel Dutch oven, or stock pot. Just make sure they're oven proof.
      Look for a 4 quart casserole dish, if you have a large family. Or just use two 3 quart, the 13" by 9" casserole dishes.
      Hope this helps. Best of luck.

  • @jftmcg

    I have to say this is probably my favorite on line recipe, as well as my most shared recipe as HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG. Add on changes, Skip the ritz crackers and go for a Store crust, You have to stretch roll it out a bit but very easy and you get that pot pie like crust. Zuck's and Summer squash are perfect raw veggies to through in they come out perfect still with a little crunch. Also when cooking the Onion Celery I cook mushroom down separately to get rid of the water content. TIP: do your Jean-Pierre prep, have everything ready to go before you start, I usually am behind on something so have to cool down and restart. Also REALLY GOOD is to prep it the night before and let the flavors come even more together, then add the pie crust and bake.

      Sara - GREAT IDEA! I made this last night but my husband and I are starting low carb next week. I was wondering if putting crushed pork skins on top would be good. Don't think you could do that until the very end... or the last 10 to 15 minutes. I love the cheese idea instead of the crackers. Yes, you could definitely use half and half vs. the milk. I wouldn't omit the flour you really need it to make the sauce. But maybe there is a low carb substitute???? I would make it and use the flour... carb count 1/4 CUP flour: Total Carbohydrate 23.85g 8%, Dietary Fiber 0.8g 3% Sugars 0.08g. It makes a lot so you might be only looking at 5 to 6 carbs per serving. I AM JUST GUESSING HERE - I REALLY DON'T KNOW THE CARB COUNT PER SERVING.

    Looks delicious. I don't like peppers or hot sauce Will it still taste good without those two ingredients? By the way.....I love your channel Larry :)

    Looks good but I'd add a little melted butter to the crushed up ritz.

    Larry, today is the day for this recipe. Do you think a can of cream of mushroom or chicken could be worked in as a substitute for the mayo?

      Yes, I don't see why it would't work Warren! Let me know how you like it!

      I probably wouldn't, but cheese makes everything taste better! Maybe Monterey Jack?

    Hmmm... I bet a big dollop of sour cream would do well dropped in with the mayo... or even in place of it... but I'm weird...
    I definitely see this as a killer use for leftover Thanksgiving turkey, and one of many excuses for cooking one much bigger than what you think you need.

      You ARE indeed weird John! LOL But the sour cream addition or substitution is a great idea! Hope you do give it a try! Thanks for watching!
