What a fun and diverse list of books! I love to see Wistful Ascending on here, book 3 in that series made it onto my faves! And I am soooo eager to read A Drowned Kingdom! Congrats on hitting 50 books, I hope 2024 will be just as great, if not better 🤩

Thanks so much Esmay. I've went missing from most social media at the end of the year so I've missed chatting with you. I hope you are well and had a wonderful 2023. Here's to an even better year next year!

@@chrismohan I've missed chatting with you as well, though I can't blame you for disappearing for a while! I've kept up with the Page Chewing episodes though so it's been wonderful to listen to you ramble on there from time to time ;)

50 books is awesome! 🎉 I still need to read Beloved. Kill or Be Killed is an interesting premise. Great top ten list! Hope 2024 brings you more great books! 📚

I highly recommend Sea of Tranquility by St John Mandel. I personally like it better than Station Eleven, and all her books are interconnected, so its fun to spot all the links. Such a good story and would make for a great film as well.

Hi Josh. I actually read Sea of Trabquility earlier on this year as well. I enjoyed it a lot and like Station Eleven, it did a great job of mixing its timelines and stories in such a way that I didn’t see the solution ahead of time. I have a few others on the shelf for 2024! 😀

My reading peaked one year, a decade ago, and then never got close in subsequent years… until I properly discovered BookTube 2y ago (I’d dabbled lightly the year prior to this ‘proper’ discovery), and my reading subsequently took off. Looking at my reading data I seem to typically slump from January through February/March before picking back up and climbing to an end of year surge. Maybe the end-of-year push takes too much out of me 🤔

Happy New Year Tufty! I know the feeling about how booktube can influence our habits. I don’t think I’ll even try for the same amount this year. Whatever u read I read 😀
My slump is always in and around June and from October on. It’s less of a slump and rather that life gets too all consuming to concentrate or find the headspace to commit.
Hope you have an even better 2024.

I need to get back to «The Expanse» sooner rather than later, have the final two books left!
My Top Favorite Read of 2023, is a tie between «Under Heaven» by Guy Gavriel Kay & «The Veiled Throne» («Dandelion Dynasty #3) by Ken Liu: «Under Heaven» should be teached next to «War & Peace» and «Le Miserables» for GGK’s prose and Ken Liu’s Character Work has few if any rivals! A character that has only one scene in «TVT» (though a series veteran in «The Dandelion Dynasty»), earned with that scene alone my favorite character of 2023: Cogo Yelu!
Next is another tie between «The Retreat to Avalon» by Sean Poage & «The Winter King» by Bernard Cornwell: Poage has written my favorite take on «A Historical King Arthur» and the Seige of Yves Trebon/St. Michel in «TWK» shows why Cornwell might be the best at writing battles!
    The next are unsorted:
«The Winter Road» by Adrian Selby
«The Way of Edan» by Philip Chase (You might have heard about him! 😄)
    «Bold Ascension» by Vaughn Roycroft
    «Salammbo» by Gustave Flaubert
«The Farthest Shore» by Ursula K. Le Guin
«The Name of the Wind» by Patrick Rothfuss
    «Brigantia» by Adrian Goldsworthy
    «Tortilla Flat» by John Steinbeck
«The Little Emperors» by Alfred Duggan
    My Honorable Mentions
«Tehanu» by Ursula K. Le Guin
    «Speaking Bones» by Ken Liu
«The Conscience of the King» by Alfred Duggan
«The Black Gods Kiss» (Jirel of Joiry) by CL Moore

Thanks you so much for this. Plenty of inspiration to get stuck into this year! I have been meaning to get back to GGK having only reading Tigana before. He’s such a beautiful writer. Having another jumping off point is always welcome. Similarly with Liu. I bought the first book of DD after reading Paper Menagerie.
Great to see Adrian Selby and Le Guin who are on my radar for this year. I’m so grateful for you taking the time to share your reading highlights for the year. Happy new year! 😀

@@chrismohan I only have three videos (read: glorified powerpoints 😅) and they are on the mythology of «Tigana»! «Under Heaven» and «A Song For Arbonne» (my Favorite Read in 2021) are great introductions to GGK!
«Grace of Kings» (DD #1) is my favorite «DD» Novel, actually my favourite Fantasy Novel published within the last 10 years!
      Cheers! 😃
