It was a pleasure watching your videos and reading your recommendations for this year 🥰 here's to a new year filled with great reads and even greater memories ✨
So glad to see your love for the Rebecca Ross duology. I am not usually a fantasy reader but I loved A River Enchanted this year and plan to start the second one soon. I’ve heard very little about this series and think it deserves more attention. Adding Almond after you and Jack Edwards both recommended it.
i almost read it until i read a review mentioning the HEAVY military propaganda in it and how a lot of people agreed on that, and then her whole “neutral” stance on palestine happened. so yeah, glad i put it off for so long and decided not go read it lmao

Usually I’ll get past 50% when I lose interest and I think that totally counts! I spent hours reading it- I’m gonna count it. I also started reading Sanderson this year and love him!! I've spent late summer and autumn reading Mexican Gothic, Certain Dark Things, and Gods of Jade and Shadow. Once I finish The Daugther of Dr. Moreau, I'm starting Beautiful Ones. I'm happy to know you liked it alot. I loved Woman Eating.
(Comment previously deleted by yt) Thank you for addressing the publisher boycott. Now, for people like me that don't want to read/buy/support pro-Isr*el/'neutral' authors, this is a list of the books from this video to avoid: - Last Tale of the Flower Bride - The Serpent and the Wings of Night - Fourth Wing If you know more, please comment too. And everyone interested on this, please educate yourself and judge by yourself reading through the social media of each author to learn they statements, and also listen to the people that have read them before, or had seen what the posted since everything started. Thanks
Since this comment is back up I ask again, can you provide the proof for Last Tale of the Flower Bride or The Serpent and the Wings of Night authors being Pro-Israel? Because I searched both authors (Roshani Chokshi and Carissa Broadbent respectively) and couldn't find sources or even discussion against them
I LOVED Vespertine! 17 year old autistic nun gets possessed by an immortal evil spirit who teaches her self care? "The revenant had devoured the populations of entire citites; it was also the entity who ordered me to eat my pottage." It's the funniest and sweetest dynamic i've ever seen. I admit the the plot of the storyline isn't mindbowling/very memorable, but Artemisia's inner dialogue (both with herself and with the ghost possessing her) is absolutely immaculate
Favorite: "Iron Widow" (Angry, raw, messy, morally grey MC and a literal love triangle), "Sorcery of Thorns" (the closest to my #1 author, Tamora Pierce's, writing I've found), "The Last Graduate" (THAT. ENDING.), "These Are the Words" (poetry I want to gift my niece when she's older), "Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries" (swoony bickering romance, great winter vibes, Emily is me) Worst: "Empire of the Vampire" (technically DNF'd, but read 500 out of 700 pages), "Better Than Fiction" (I've come to realize I am NOT a romance girlie) Disappointing: "A Lesson in Vengeance" (great vibes, hate the doomed lesbian trope), "Empire of the Vampire" (misogynistic AF society, story felt slow and clogged despite interesting ideas and premise) "The Book of Life" (major conflicts were SUPER rushed, felt like not much happened by the end) Biggest Surprise: "If I Have to be Haunted" (a little rushed and cliched, but the romance was still cute), "I Capture the Castle" (the romances were a little annoying, but the themes and settings were great)
i’m in my hunger games era too 🙈🙈and i could not be having more fun if i tried im currently on catching fire and once i finish the books im gonna watch the movies omg i’m so excited
A manga/anime recommendation for you is Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End!! I think you would absolutely love it! Very cozy fantasy vibes but also has a strong plot that doesn’t make it too soft and fuzzy!
14:18 "The main character? 100% girl is a Libra. She can't make a decision to save her life" HAHAHAHAHA, I feel attacked but I laugh 'coz that's so true on so many levels 😂😂😂😂😂😂
you would LOVE mexican gothic. i read it last year and i still think about it all the time! velvet was the night is another good book by the same author :)
Favourite: A Man Called Ove, and The Gentleman Bastard Sequence Least Favourite: Fear the Flames Most Disappointing: Ariadne, The Alchemist, Children of Virtue and Vengeance Most Surprising: I don't think there were any this year that were particularly "surprising" to me, because I went into every book with the intention of enjoying it, but I'd say the two I enjoyed more than I thought I would were The Handmaid's Tale and To Kill a Mockingbird
i feel the same way about feeling my year was divided!!! it's so weird but you put it really well. i think part of it for me is at the beginning of the year i was in suuuuch a different place than i am now and so the books i read in that beginning time feel attached to like... a whole other person lol
I was so freakin happy 😊 when I got the notification on my phone you uploaded a video ❤ some of my favorite books from this year where The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks, Live Your Best Lie by Jessie Weaver, I also read The Little Prince this year, I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jeanette McCurdy, and The Woman In Me by Britney Spears . So excited for 2024 and I definitely have books that I can’t wait to get to ❤
I love your videos and how pationately you talk about the books you love, it is truly inspiring 💗 My favourite and honestly most surprising books of the year was everything from the grisha verse✨ I discovered shadow and bones on a flea market and wasn't aware of how big the series was and I read all of them in january, they literally altered my brain chemistry. Expecially SOC and CK were SO good I'm still mad I didn't discover them a earlier in life I read them like three times this year bc they're so good😭 I also reread the hunger games series and tbosas and honestly I agree with everything you said, it is really a life changing expierience to read them now having more knowlege of the world. Suzanne truly is a genius Generally this year was really good for me bc I didn't read any book that I would rate below three stars which is awesome.🙌 I'm so excited for 2024 and I hope I get to read all of the books I bought this year (which is a lot lol) I'm wishing you and everyone who reads this a very happy new year and I'm excited for what's to come! 💗🎉✨
I have a love hate relationship with the daughters of the moon goddess. for my initial read there were a few teething issues that made me dnf the book, however i came back and enjoyed. did i hate the love triangle, yes but at the end of the book she chose the right one so was happy. i was about to buy a heart of the sun warrior but wisely chose to read a few reviews and it changed my whole perspective. so in the end i did not buy and now consider daughter of the moon goddess a stand-alone. tbh, it wouldn’t surprise me if the author wanted to appease both shipper crowds.
raeliana is profound TO ME. the girls who get it get it (ive reread it 3 times send help) tbf im obsessed with these type of manhwa and raeliana is my favourite cuz it's just so funny
please read a far wilder magic by allison saft! sometimes our view for certain fantasy novels matches up, and sometimes we completely disagree. im interested to see how this one fares :)
I understand why u were disappointed by Adventures of Amina Al Sirafi but please give the author a chance to redeem herself by reading the Daevabad Trilogy its incredible 😭
I agree with what you said about Amina. I think if you knew the kind of fantasy it would involve, you would have liked the second half more. I’m really excited for you to get to the Daevabad Trilogy!
Are Belladonna and Foxglove more heavy on the fantasy or the romance? The synopsis sounds super interesting, but I usually don't like a lot of dark romance books or books that focus too much on how hot and sexy the characters are. And the marketing seems like it's one of those, so I've been hesitating.
wondering if you’ve read Elise Kova’s ‘Married to Magic’ series, seems like the type of fantasy romance that’s right up your alley. Duel with the Vampire Lord is my favorite!
Favorite: - "A Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue" by Mackenzi Lee Worst: - "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe Surprise: - "Are You There God? It's Me Margaret." by Judy Blume Disappointment: - "The Only and Only Bob" by Katherine Applegate
My favorite book of 2023 was: Yours truly by Abby Jimenez. And was most disappointed by: Holly by: Stephen King Yellowface by: R.F. Kuang The Exchange by: John Grisham.
I’m not sure if you mentioned it in any video or not, but I’m just curious; are you going to be getting any of the books from Cassandra Clare’s Kickstarter as part of your book collection or even to review? I haven’t heard (that I know of) much booktubers talking about it, so I’m curious😊 also I love watching your videos!!💜💜
I love you book reviews and wanted to share some of my favorits this year 🥰 5star reads this year The Ballad of songbirds and snakes Sorcery of thrones Happy Place ( also my favorite E.H. I can‘‚ understand the people who don’t like it 😂 ) Mexican Gothic Fahrenheit 451 The Starless Sea + a few rereads And the series : (Red Rising Series Folk of the Air Series Poppy Wars Series)
And I also loved A Study in Drowning! Conversely, I loved both What Moves the Dead and Starling House and I didn’t care for Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries
In 2023 I started Terry Pratchett's Disc World series and I'm currently on book 14 of 40ish, and I can really recommend it. Of course, not all books in the series are equally enjoyable, but overall I'm having a really good time with them. My biggest surprise was The T in LGBT by Jamie Raines and it is an autobiography/guide on being a trans. I expected to like it as the author is one of my favourite RUclipsrs, what I didn't expect though, is that this book would make me realize I'm trans masc. So yeah, literally a life changing read for me. My biggest disappointment however was the Harry Potter series. I grew up with the books and the movies, I love the UK audiobooks narrated by Stephen Fry and overall this series has had such a big impact on my life, to a point where I had made it my Christmas tradition to read the books every December. Unfortunately, the author absolutely ruined this experience for me, because this year I witnessed up close all the harm her hateful views cause, and I ended up taking every sentence in her books apart, to a point where I had to DNF halfway through the series. After that I decided to sell my books and continue to only enjoy the very queer fanfics and cosplays the books inspired. I still don't judge anyone for liking the books, I understand that it's a huge childhood/nostalgia thing, but I personally can't enjoy them anymore, so why waste my time on it?
Thank you so much for speaking out and supporting the boycott of SMP! I’d say R.F. Kuang’s Yellowface was my biggest disappointment (I had super high hopes since I adored Babel) while The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin was my most surprising while how life-altering it was. Also I fell in love with Anne of Green Gables. ❤
it would be great if u could address the boycott happening. in the last video you said you were going to add a link about it but never did. i think its essential to spread the info beyond saying you support it🙂

Since this comment is back up I ask again, can you provide the proof for Last Tale of the Flower Bride or The Serpent and the Wings of Night authors being Pro-Israel? Because I searched both authors (Roshani Chokshi and Carissa Broadbent respectively) and couldn't find sources or even discussion against them
The comment was deleted because I tried to provide it. Please search for yourself on social media
@@kiiro5260 I literally did though. Which social media? What usernames provided the proof?
You are absolutely amazing.
ENDING.), "These Are the Words" (poetry I want to gift my niece when she's older), "Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries" (swoony bickering romance, great winter vibes, Emily is me)
Worst: "Empire of the Vampire" (technically DNF'd, but read 500 out of 700 pages), "Better Than Fiction" (I've come to realize I am NOT a romance girlie)
Disappointing: "A Lesson in Vengeance" (great vibes, hate the doomed lesbian trope), "Empire of the Vampire" (misogynistic AF society, story felt slow and clogged despite interesting ideas and premise) "The Book of Life" (major conflicts were SUPER rushed, felt like not much happened by the end)
Biggest Surprise: "If I Have to be Haunted" (a little rushed and cliched, but the romance was still cute), "I Capture the Castle" (the romances were a little annoying, but the themes and settings were great)
My day ended on such a good note because of this video ❤
i’m in my hunger games era too 🙈🙈and i could not be having more fun if i tried im currently on catching fire and once i finish the books im gonna watch the movies omg i’m so excited
I also feel like the reading I did in the first six months of this year happened much earlier than that.
Lover this video it brightens up my day every time you do a video ❤
I loved reading the last tale of the flower bride and a study in drowning too. Though Happy Place was my least favourite read this year.
Happy New Years🎉
Favourite: A Man Called Ove, and The Gentleman Bastard Sequence
Least Favourite: Fear the Flames
Most Disappointing: Ariadne, The Alchemist, Children of Virtue and Vengeance
Most Surprising: I don't think there were any this year that were particularly "surprising" to me, because I went into every book with the intention of enjoying it, but I'd say the two I enjoyed more than I thought I would were The Handmaid's Tale and To Kill a Mockingbird
Reading Ariadne just made me appreciate Circe even more😅😂
i feel the same way about feeling my year was divided!!! it's so weird but you put it really well. i think part of it for me is at the beginning of the year i was in suuuuch a different place than i am now and so the books i read in that beginning time feel attached to like... a whole other person lol
Enjoyed hearing your thoughts in this one! My absolute favorite read of the year was A Goblin of the Glade by McKenzie Catron! Sooooo insanely good!
So excited for 2024 and I definitely have books that I can’t wait to get to ❤
I love your videos and how pationately you talk about the books you love, it is truly inspiring 💗
My favourite and honestly most surprising books of the year was everything from the grisha verse✨
I discovered shadow and bones on a flea market and wasn't aware of how big the series was and I read all of them in january, they literally altered my brain chemistry. Suzanne truly is a genius
Generally this year was really good for me bc I didn't read any book that I would rate below three stars which is awesome.🙌 I'm so excited for 2024 and I hope I get to read all of the books I bought this year (which is a lot lol)
I'm wishing you and everyone who reads this a very happy new year and I'm excited for what's to come! 💗🎉✨
i love your videos and book thoughts so much!! have a lovely new year~
I was just thinking about how much I wanted to watch a video of yours 🎉
about to add more books to my huge tbr after watching this 😈
I have a love hate relationship with the daughters of the moon goddess. for my initial read there were a few teething issues that made me dnf the book, however i came back and enjoyed. did i hate the love triangle, yes but at the end of the book she chose the right one so was happy.
i was about to buy a heart of the sun warrior but wisely chose to read a few reviews and it changed my whole perspective. so in the end i did not buy and now consider daughter of the moon goddess a stand-alone.
tbh, it wouldn’t surprise me if the author wanted to appease both shipper crowds.
the Rebeca yarros books are on the BDM list because what author have said about the gene****
raeliana is profound TO ME. the girls who get it get it (ive reread it 3 times send help)
tbf im obsessed with these type of manhwa and raeliana is my favourite cuz it's just so funny
please read a far wilder magic by allison saft! sometimes our view for certain fantasy novels matches up, and sometimes we completely disagree. im interested to see how this one fares :)
I understand why u were disappointed by Adventures of Amina Al Sirafi but please give the author a chance to redeem herself by reading the Daevabad Trilogy its incredible 😭
i still plan to read those! i think i’ll really like them!
I agree with what you said about Amina. I think if you knew the kind of fantasy it would involve, you would have liked the second half more. I’m really excited for you to get to the Daevabad Trilogy!
Happy new year 😊💙💜🤗 I will finally read Secret Society of irregular Witches and Babel in 2024!
Oh yes, finally.
Alexa, play ...Ready for it?
yes all props to Happy Place by Emily Henry! my favorite book of hers!
Happy New Year Hannah! Thank you for your videos this year as always. the joy and comfort of your work means so much to me 💞
Happy Place is also my favourite Emily Henry book!!
Happy new year hannah❤❤
hannnah!! have you decided a new book for the book club?
oh my gosh, yes! Happy Place is the best Emily Henry book!!!
Favorite:
- "A Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue" by Mackenzi Lee
Worst:
- "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe
Surprise:
- "Are You There God? It's Me Margaret." by Judy Blume
Disappointment:
- "The Only and Only Bob" by Katherine Applegate
me: sees a notification from Hannah’s channel
also me: looks at my tbr as it is being crushed under the weight of all these book recs
I think you just created my 2024 reading list :)
My favorite book of 2023 was:
Yours truly by Abby Jimenez.
And was most disappointed by:
Holly by: Stephen King
Yellowface by: R.F. Kuang
The Exchange by: John Grisham.
Omg I loved holly! But I listened the audiobook. What didn’t you like? She’s my favourite character of his
I did like "Holly" the character. I didn't like that you know very early on who the killer is😊. Took away the 'mystery'. Thank you for responding.
I love you book reviews and wanted to share some of my favorits this year 🥰
5star reads this year
The Ballad of songbirds and snakes
Sorcery of thrones
Happy Place ( also my favorite E.H. I can‘‚ understand the people who don’t like it 😂 )
Mexican Gothic
Fahrenheit 451
The Starless Sea
+ a few rereads
And the series :
(Red Rising Series
Folk of the Air Series
Poppy Wars Series)
Oh thank god I feel the exact same way that you do about Amina Al-Sirafi
it would be great if u could address the boycott happening. in the last video you said you were going to add a link about it but never did. i think its essential to spread the info beyond saying you support it🙂
Idk if it was there when you commented, but there is a link in the description about the boycott
it wasnt! thanks :) @@MaxximusP
loved your videos this year! my favourite book this year was In Memoriam by Alice Winn its so brilliant!
ThanksMuch for sharing !
Random question: I noticed you have a lot of hardcovers, which I prefer. However, I feel like I mostly see paperbacks in book stores. Do you normal buy your hardcovers online? I love going to bookstores but get disappointed when I don’t find a hardcover version.
I haven't read the new Hunger Games and now I want to read them all!
Have you read Kim Jiyoung Born 1982 by Cho Namjoo? I read that one as well because Namjoon recommended it and I loved it a lot! 💜
I've asked this before but are you going to read the Fragile threads of power by V.E. Schwab? I remember you used to love her way back but havent mentioned Schwab recently at all. Has something happened about her I'm not aware of or has your taste changed?
Yeah she used to love Shades of Magic in particular so I am not sure why she hasn't been interested in Threads
it’s just been so long since i read those that i’d have to reread them before reading threads of power! but it’s on my tbr for next year!!
@@AClockworkReader omg thank you for replying and well that's totally fair I have a memory of a chair lmao. But shades of magic is my favourite series ever and i remember I came across it because of you specifally so I was hoping to see you talk about Fragile threads of power too. I haven't gotten to it yet myself either but I hope to soon. Oh yeah and happy new year! :DD
Good morning, I’m new to your channel and I’m just curious if you have ever heard of or read the demon days and vampire nights series? The first book is Born in Fire. It’s a fantasy romance.
Hi! Where do you find so many of your beautiful versions of books? Like Once Upon A Broken Heart and The Cruel Prince? The covers are soooo pretty!
Chain of Thorns…and Roses
reading almond because RM read it is so cute but so real 😂😂😂 i did the same thing
If you haven't read Dracula yet, please do!
Do not trust any of the adaptations, though. I swear to god, they all get it wrong.
