You're having a hard time with restarts because the end of the rod gets like a glass/silica coating on it when you stop welding. Once you're more comfortable laying a bead you learn to flick your wrist when you're done to get rid of it. For now, you can use a file to make it clean again and the start should be easier.
@@mathewlawrenceml If you really want to dig in with some great instruction, the channel "Making Mistakes with Greg" has an entire series about learning to stick weld. He breaks things down in a really understandable way and it's geared at the beginner/novice. (Not affiliated with him in any way, other than being a sub of his :) )
Subscribed. Neat channel.
Thanks.

MIG welder is easier for sheet metal
Cant weld real thin metal with a stick welder as a beginner, flux fore wire welder is alot easier to learn
Core I meant lol
Thanks, I did wonder if the sheet metal I have is too thin to practice on. I need to get hold of a thicker bit to have a go with.
Your rods are to long get the short rods and read the manual that would help you out a lot
I was unaware they did short rods, shall have a look thanks
