    In today’s episode, I speak with Paul Theroux about and his new book "On the Plain of Snakes: A Mexican Journey" (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt 2019). We also speak about a variety of topics including road trips, death, immigration, NAFTA, and how Donald Trump inspired him to write his new book.

      @@jeremybassetti the Old Patagonian Express and the Great Railway Bazaar. Also, the Mosquito Coast. We just started Deep South.

      @@jeffreymika --- Good choice --- Deep South is an often overlooked tome on the South --- memorably, his chapter on the 'Black Elite' of Atlanta; 'tis eye-opening, and a culture rarely written about from an outsider's perspective ----

      @@jeffreymika if you like Mosquito Coast, check out the movie with Harrison Ford but please avoid the TV show! Also, I would recommend Dark Star Safari and Happy Isles of Oceania

    P. Theroux is a man with curious outlooks (e.g. his dislike of universities expressed in this book ). And yet all told as a writer he is so deep..
