    Hi Mike, as usual, your reactions are so intuitive, always correctly sensing the spirit of Elvis. Here, he fights off the misery of a cold/flu knowing that he has a concert in one the worlds largest venues. His world famous hair is crumpled and usually bright eyes are look tired. He sniffs and coughs then explains it all away with a joke claiming he is not used to fresh air. Sadly, I believe that Elvis knew he was perceived as superhuman. Never wanting to disappoint, he kept the circumstances of his health to himself always, thereby giving his detractors the opportunity to claim drug abuse. What a great injustice to a great man.❤️

    Mike, here I am with another Elvis tidbit. This time it’s from Ray Walker, bass singer with the Jords. “I think the most revealing thing about Elvis Presley was that he didn’t feel that special. He didn’t act special. As far as thinking he was somebody hot, he never thought that. Never did. I mean, he dressed up for his fans and enjoyed doing that - I think he was a clown. He enjoyed looking the way the fans expected to see him and wanted to see him. Elvis realized that was part of his life.
    But when he was on his own, he had on jeans, a cowboy hat - just regular clothes. When he went out, he made sure that if anybody saw him, they saw him at his best. That was part of his life, and a tribute to his honesty and love for his fans."

    When Elvis was a teen he didn't only have access to church music and the radio. He played records of all kinds.
    And he went to all-night Gospel sings. His real love was Southern Gospel Quartet Music.
    Did you catch what he said at the end about 'Message Songs.' He wouldn't want everything to be a message song like "In The Ghetto."
    There's something to be said about the entertainment value. And leading up to the Hawaii Special of 1973 he said there would be no message songs --just pure entertainment.

    elvis was always genuinely himself no matter what
    you can find some fan filmed footage from this huston show online as well as some great photos!
    its a shame we have very little interviews with elvis after his return from the army but there is a lot of fantastic ones from the 50s out there!

    Please don't be concerned about not being able to react to more content. You have your own life and other responsibilities and it is completely understandable.
    Thank you so much for reacting to these interviews...it gives us a chance to see a bit more of his personality. For someone who had no professional training in singing, playing guitar and piano he was so gifted naturally. My understanding is he did not read music but had a natural ear for understanding how to create the sound he wanted in songs. Thanks Mike for another great reaction.🌻

    Mike, the Astrodome shows were part of the " Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo ", which is still held today, having first been held in 1931. It's part Agricultural show, part Concert and also one of the biggest Rodeos annually in America. Elvis played six shows, over 3 days on a revolving stage in the centre of the Astrodome, to a combined crowd of 207,494. The first show, on a Friday afternoon, drew a crowd of 16,704, which left Elvis with a crisis of confidence. The next 5 shows had much bigger crowds, the biggest being 43,614 for the Saturday night show. The shows broke all existing attendance records, and Elvis returned to the Show in March 1974, to play two more shows, the combined crowd being over 88,000 ... hope this is of interest !

    I really do love and appreciate the attention and thought that you put into these reactions. I also love that you seem to understand Elvis. There was really no need to apologize for the syncing issues, because if we are watching this reaction then we have watched this interview already ( a thousand times for those like me 😂 ). As you noted, Elvis doesn't seem to be feeling too well during this interview. Regardless, he gives a great interview anyway. Aside from the interview when he came home from the army, there are a lot of interviews that aren't on video, but are fantastic anyway. Many of them from the 50's and one of those happens to be one of my favorite interviews. Thank you ever so much for this reaction, you are the best! ☺

    At the Texas Astrodome show he was told by the organisers not to bring "the black girls" meaning "The Sweet Inspirations", so Elvis told them If they aren't coming neither am I, and at that point Elvis had sold out the Astrodome so the organisers had no choice but to relent. And after that Elvis made sure during the concert they got treated royaly and were given anything they asked for. Even before the concert started Elvis had Kathy Westmoreland (Elvis' high voice singer) drive The Sweet Inspirations around the inside of the arena, some of this footage can be seen in "Elvis and the Black Community."

    • @rawschri
      @rawschri 23 дня назад +4

      I don't think it was Kathy Westmoreland, the Houston shows were 27th February - 1st March 1970 and Millie Kirkham was the soprano at that time. Kathy first sang with Elvis on 17th August 1970, taking over from Millie halfway through the Vegas engagement. My understanding is that it was the blonde daughter of the organising Committee Chairman who drove the " Sweets " ..

    The promoters of this concert said to leave his colored girls (Sweet Inspirations) at home. Elvis told them if they don't come I don't come. Elvis won. During the rodeo to promote the concert they had Elvis driven around in an open top Bronco or Jeep and Elvis had another Jeep behind him driving the Girls around. He hated bigotry and racism.

    A few thoughts:
    Elvis said he didn't have anything in the works regarding movies, so this was before plans were finalized for "That's the way it is" which was filmed about 7 months later in August
    Elvis doesn't look as good here as he did in the June '72 MSG presser. However, someone here noted he had the flu, so that would explain it.
    I don't recall ever seeing any fan footage from this concert.

    Sam Phillips of Sun Records took time in showing Elvis how recording studios worked. Elvis learned very quickly and was heavily involved in his production all through his career with the last 2 years being the exception. Elvis didn't own his own PA System until about 72 and relied on the stadium to supply. This caused all sorts of problems in the Dome to tbe point where after the matinee Elvis said he would walk if it wasn't corrected.

    This was another good lesson in how to conduct a nice, calm & interesting interview. From what I know, a "live" concert from Houston is audio only with some still photos, & the audio isn't that good. This is the state where he was told he could "leave the Black girls home" & he said if they couldn't be with him he would not do the concert. He then rode around the stadium in an open convertible showing them off to everyone cheering.

    Elvis was unwell but I'm sure the colonel made sure he was present at the interview. He had a lot of lung problems and later in Vegas he started using an inhaler before and after shows. He was never really healthy, His mother's parents were first cousins and he inherited a gene called Alpha one which was a double gene just like when British queen Victoria married cousin Albert, their children had endless health problems. Sadly his mother and her two brothers all had it and died in their middle 40's. Elvis was 42 and his mother was 46, her two brothers were in their 40's also. In the book "Destined to Die Young" by Sally Hoedel she details how Alpha one was unknown in his day, and could have been the cause of Elvis' Identical twin brother dying 35 minutes before Elvis was born. In the later years like his mother he developed heart disease, Liver problems and Lung problems. He took prescriptions drugs, given to him by his doctor. He had early onset Glaucoma and had emergency surgery on his right eye in 1969 to save him from blindness. Media was never told. He had prescriptions for everything. Media wants to say he took street drugs but he didn't nor did he drink. His hair dresser Larry Geller said in 1975 Elvis had a heart attack in his presence. Elvis swore him to secrecy and never wanted his fans to know. As you see his appearance in his last year, the bloating face, torso and hands, were not from overeating, as media claimed but his Liver was not filtering out toxins. Hoedel says in her book, because of his over whelming family history he would have still died in his 40's had he never taken a drug. Thanks for listening. Elvis was a trooper who wanted to make his fans happy, and gladly answered reporters and never was ugly to anyone. Thanks Mike.

      Mary, I have told elsewhere and your value appears in-tuned with viewing facts in a broader light. The body changes began upon Gladys and were done by a man quite close to The Presley's. Elvis has zero responsibility or participation in what became; nor did Gladys, Vernon or Lisa Marie. Find Gladys' mother and father; they are gorgeous like she was. Fine features of great depth is often sought after by outsiders and there you shall find the culprit. Behind the backs of everyone, a "lie" has backed a way of life allowing transfers done that exchange what someone "is" upon another one; then to their group. Common sense has declined throughout the constant plague of this crew. Elvis's genetics brought no chest hair as can be seen throughout his movie career and early Vegas. We all knew that! Puberty long gone, his chest is suddenly covered in hair and falsely inflamed, along with the appearance of his entire body. Inflammation is known as a response to something "foreign" invading someone's space. No part of Elvis's body remotely resembled 🤔 him, nor did Gladys. Go see who "the foreign is" behind the loss of The Presley Family. Gladys will appear as a near identical copy of this man, while Elvis was The Right-Hand Man of the Man initially lied on. Elvis's power and knowledge stopped such profound exchange as we can see from Gladys; the result was one bad version of this outside man upon Elvis. Think of it like someone trying to trade places with Elvis. We all know why! Their own angry, inflamed image goes upon their targeted host, while they get back what is required to survive; an authenic human life. Study parasite life and how it operates. We all know that no one with the outstanding lung and heart chamber Presley always had is likely to have breath and heart failure! There are, archiacally known, (😂 somehow, now lost) 7 levels these degenerates follow; Anger, jealousy, wrath, envy, are part of...... These foul states are used criminally at each of these 7 levels. Think of it like rungs of a ladder they use daily to climb the back of someone. They have carried this nonsense so far, we are having court cases over who owns the lyrics to "Hotel California!" ..... another parasitical move to take the place of ..... Mary, my name is Rebecca Ann Grubb and those fools have lost! 😊 1977, Charleston, West Virginia, Mister Elvis Presley let it be known to me in no uncertain terms! 😅 Mary, his power! Shew!......7 Scrolls are falling apart from my....Love! Someone like you! ❤ The Lion from The Tribe of Judah

    I love watching Elvis in interviews, there are so few of them. But, to me, he always seems a little bit uncomfortable. If you compare an interview to an onstage performance, or even a movie performance, there is a stark contrast. In interviews, Elvis always seems a bit reserved, a bit unsure of himself or nervous. But in performances, he's on top of everything. He knows exactly what he wants and gets it by subtle cues to his band, backup singers and even the audience. He's very much in charge and everyone knows it.

    • @Mary-d5x6g

    Hey, can you react to one night 1970 Las Vegas by Elvis?

  • @sallycook
    @sallycook 23 дня назад +1

    Mike, just to put the Houston shows into perspective, Elvis returned to live performances in July 1969 in Vegas for month long engagement. He returned to Vegas for his 2nd engagement in late January 1970. He did not tour between these two engagements. This press conference came just a day or two after he finished his 2nd Vegas engagement. So, yes he is tired. 30 days of two shows a night I guess takes it out of you. Houston is in fact Elvis’ FIRST tour date, outside his work in Vegas. The Astrodome is massive, it’s in the round, acoustics are terrible and Elvis is a long way from his band. Houston was a tough gig to kickstart his live arena tour return.

    Unfortunateoy, it is the movie years where Elvis was left behind from the changes and progress that was happening in music world. He was cutting edge in fifties, even upto 1962 as far as sound is concerned, and it would be 1969 when he worked with a visionary producer Chips Moman- leading to the sublime American Sound sessions. In the seventies, he was plagued with mediocre producer, publishing woes and personal problems. So no, movies years didn't contribute to any innovation or creative excellence for a person of his talent.

  • @sallycook

    Mike, I tried really hard to find you some audio/footage from the Astrodome but everything I listen had such horrendous sound. The acoustics were terrible. The delay as the sound travelled out the audience and back to Elvis cause him a real challenge. Sorry! Hopefully someone else has better luck for you.
