Although he wished more than anything to return to the US, it must have been extremely difficult for him to come home and face the fact that his mom wasn`t there anymore to greet him and that his beloved Graceland felt somewhat empty without her.
When you`re young, two years is a long time. When you`re young and a celebrity and you`ve been absent for two years, it may seem like a lifetime. In Elvis`s case, the changes he experienced personally and the changes in the musical field after two years were mindblowing. For two years he lived in a time bubble only to be pushed back into the everyday life and the changed musical arena.
In 1960, he returned as a changed grownup man.
In the 1950s, his influence on young people was too massive for the US government.
They considered Elvis a threat because they believed him to be a rebel, which he never was, at least not deliberately.
Removing him from the spotlights, sending him away, and washing his brains was a clever manoeuvre and his manager was all for it.
To this day, we can only speculate why Colonel Parker signed this contract.
I am convinced there was far more to it than Parker ever admitted.
But there is always the possibility that Parker was ignorant of the plot.
Those who don`t believe me should study John Lennon`s assassination.
Another entertainer with too many liberal ideas and an enormous influence on the masses.

Elvis is truly a beautiful man physically. He was kind in this interview and we get to see the real Elvis as a 25 year old man. He was no longer an adolescent but a man. He lost his mother during that time and had to adjust to an empty mansion in Memphis. A huge adjustment. A true Adonis. He recorded “Surrender” and “It’s Now or Never” both songs demonstrated his ranges bordering on operatic.

Elvis is stunning in all categories...even his talking voice is mesmerizing. The fact that he's a twin is a lot to comprehend sometimes.
A beautiful human being. There's a documentary called King of Kindness about some of his charitable contributions that you should check out. He was so much more than what we saw onstage.😊❤

Yes Elvis being a twinless twin is an extremely hard concept for anyone to understand. I believe his chronic insomnia, anxiety and chronic sleep walking were part of his inner mind & being looking for his twin that was with him in his Mama’s womb. And when he lost his Mama,, that was something so hard to deal with because SHE was his connection to his twin. The devastation of losing your mother (she was only 46) while being in the military (which tore her up emotionally) along with his growing popularity, fame, riches & fans (also tore her up emotionally) plus having to argue with the military heads because they didn’t want to give him emergency leave. Elvis had to threaten he would go AWOL for the military to finally grant him emergency leave. Yes he and Vernon were devastated by her passing and unfortunately, Vernon in the heat of his despair, blamed Elvis for her passing. I know Vernon didn’t really mean it. His emotions got the best of him but it must’ve hurt Elvis really bad. I’m sure Elvis eventually realized his father’s despair but it still hurts. Elvis had said that his Mama was his best friend, he could talk to her about anything and she understood. Growing up, it was basically Elvis & Gladys. Vernon unfortunately was sent to prison for a fraudulent check. They lost their little sh*tgun house & had to move around a lot living with different relatives and friends. Elvis lived on what was once called, the other side of the tracks, meaning in the extremely poor black areas of Tupelo, Mississippi. Gladys worked the fields as a sharecropper, worked in factories etc. Vernon also moved around trying to get jobs. Most believe Vernon was one who sold liquor (moonshine) and that’s why they decided to head out of Tupelo to Memphis. Better jobs etc & many think the law was about to catch up on Vernon’s moonshine ‘business’ allegedly.
      - Elvis was always trying to make his parents life, especially his Mama, a better world! Elvis was beyond devastated by her passing and said he would dig ditches for a living if it would bring her back even for a few more hours.

OMG, Beautiful man, who was possibly still missing his beloved mother as he arrives back to Graceland. After he did his service in the Army more men respected him who had been his biggest critics. And he wasn't bragging, it was pandemonium when his ship pulled in to that German port. That's a great video too, he was shocked there were thousands of people who couldn't speak English, yelling "Elvis". They had their national guard just to get him on the train. You are the man mike I appreciate this great reaction.😘

Elvis did make friends in the Army: Charlie Hodge who performed on stage with him and Joe Esposito who was a business manager, both served with him.
The public perception of Elvis did change because of his service: he went from a dangerous rebel to a patriotic good boy. Of course, this eventually hurt his career as he became the boy next door in his movies, he lost that dangerous edge which he didn't get back till the '68 Special.
Elvis gives very thoughtful, intelligent answers here, belying his high school education and poor upbringing.

This interview took place in the office on the grounds of Graceland. It was so sad in a way because his mom had died and he bought Graceland for her. It must have been so hard for him to step back into that house after being away 2 years. And his father met a woman in Germany who eventually became his wife. So Elvis probably had so much on his mind. But this is definitely one of my favorite interviews.

What a beautiful man. From when Frank's daughter Nancy Sinatra said, and it's on film, when she carried him the gift and met him for the first time, she said, he melted her heart. She ending up doing a !movie later and was a dear friend to Elvis. Frank's show was faltering so the producers thought getting Elvis on a Welcome Home show was ratings gold, which it was. Frank was A little jealous of Elvis at first but later was A friend . In fact when Elvis died Frank was terribly affected by the loss. "He said, I was just a singer but Elvis changed !music and culture he was a kind and generous man". I can't thank you enough for this reaction. You are the best.

      @melvis170w4 5 дней назад

Well, at first, Frank didn’t like Elvis when he broke through and rose to superstardom in 1956. Frank didn’t like rock n roll. Then during Elvis’ height of his career, he was drafted. Yes, the only child, the only boy, the only one to carry on the family name & who was the main financial support of the family, was drafted. Many conservative groups & religious groups, along with Frank didn’t like Elvis. Elvis was publicly called nasty names & many wanted his head shaved because of his long hair and sideburns. Judges along with the police taped Elvis’ concerts because Elvis was banned from moving his body onstage. Elvis joked about it in his 1968 Special, he could only move his pinky. LoL
After his stint in the Army. Actually the military wanted to use Elvis to entertain the troops & meet dignitaries but ol Parker wasn’t going to approve that so Elvis was a regular soldier in the Army & met some friends who became lifelong buddies. When Elvis was honorably discharged, he already had the Frank Sinatra Show contract. Frank changed his tune and liked Elvis. They became friends. Frank lent Elvis his plane when he got married. There was a little rivalry. A beautiful actress who co-starred with Elvis in G.I.Blues, named Juliet Prowse. Elvis & Juliet had a heated romance. Juliet was also dating Frank and they announced their in 1962 but their relationship ended in six weeks.
Juliet said that Frank was difficult to be around after he’s had a few drinks.
About Elvis, Juliet said that they had a sexual attraction like two healthy young people! She also said about Elvis, “He would make a damn fine dancer - he’s got fabulous rhythm!”
Juliet later claimed that she and Elvis never had an affair and only went out a couple times. Me thinks they most likely had that hot romance. The only thing that makes me think maybe not is Elvis not wanting to make any problems with Frank because that’s why he supposedly didn’t date Nancy Sinatra….. he didn’t want any negative repercussions from Frank.
That makes a lot of sense. Especially in show business.
Elvis was also the kind of guy that if a woman had a steady boyfriend or was married, she was off limits.
The only thing about Juliet’s comments about Elvis and her was that first remark in which she talks about them being two young healthy people, which to me, sounds like something really went on & they both were adults about it. I’ve seen her footage making that comment and it’s believable, to me! Oh, if we all could’ve had that with Elvis!!! Well, we can dream, I’ve been dreaming since the days when Elvis was with us! What a wonderful time! Listening to the radio and being so excited because Elvis just arrived & his shows are sold out! When tickets went on sale, those were the days when ya had to stand in long lines to buy tickets and they were always SOLD OUT within minutes.
Elvis could have charged a lot for his shows but wanted everyone to be able to buy his concert tickets to see him. Another great thing about Elvis and why we love him so much. Elvis was a very beautiful man inside and out and was loving, talented, kind, caring, gentle, generous, humble, respectful, decent, down to earth man who loved God, his family, friends and FANS but also loved those who didn’t know him well and how he would change their views of him with a song. Elvis had the most beautiful comforting voice ever and sang songs that most folks could relate to. Yeah he had his money making bubble gum songs but he loved his Gospel, Country ballad songs that can touch all of our heart and souls! Elvis was an extremely special beautiful spirit with a loving heart and soul sent to us as a gift from God.
✨And on the 8th day, God blessed us with Elvis Presley.✨

Great reaction, Mike! You do such a wonderful job of picking up on so many nuances. And yes, Elvis is beautiful!
A great book to read if you really want to get to know Elvis, and how he felt about his career, Army stint, Hollywood years, as a young man is “Elvis’s Man Friday” by his cousin Gene Smith. Gene was really like a brother to Elvis, and he loved him and tells you a lot about what Elvis was thinking and why during these years. Also, the book “In the Twilight of Memory” by June Juanico-there is a documentary about the summer of 1956 with June-it is really good with 8mm footage.

Sergeant Elvis Presley, honorably discharged, March 6, 1960 is extremely tired because he literally just got home to Graceland from a long trip back to the states after serving 2 yrs in the Army. Elvis had traveled home to Memphis after his press conferences at Ft Dix & also met with beautiful Nancy Sinatra. As he traveled by train home, he met with fans along the way. Once home, there’s more footage of Elvis walking outside his beautiful Graceland mansion, taking a nibble of a guitar cake that fans made & then walking into the office (Vernon’s office) a building on the Graceland grounds. Elvis was tired & said he hadn’t ate anything. - Folks may get confused about his answer about being careful answering questions in regard to girlfriends. 1st thing is that he had a difficult time trying to communicate with females in Germany because of the language barrier. If he did date anyone, he needed a translator and many times it was just frustrating. When he met Priscilla, all the guys thought she was a lot older & many of the guys, who were G.I.’s were wanting to dance with her. Yes, Elvis was taken away by her beauty. He made sure the guys left her alone & protected her. (She went to his party alone with permission from her mother & stepfather) Elvis enjoyed talking with her because she was American & well yes, it was nice to speak to someone from home. Now the reason why he said what he said about being careful was because he had a long time girlfriend, Anita Wood, who he dated from 1957-1962. Anita didn’t know anything about Priscilla until later when she found a letter from Priscilla to Elvis inside the pages of a book & basically that was it. Anita walked out. Everyone, including Elvis, Vernon & even his Mama Gladys (before she passed) thought they were going to get married. Gladys liked Anita and wanted grandkids. Elvis, thought he would eventually marry (because of the times, proper thing to do) even though he really didn’t want to marry. - And as for the Army, Elvis had to serve because he was drafted. Thing is, he was an only child, only son who also was the family breadwinner. At the time, the government, the conservative groups & religious groups didn’t like Elvis at all. There’s footage of people mostly men calling him bad names etc. The government feared his popularity & power so me thinks what better way to control this young man, use him for photo ops for the military & quiet those groups who opposed him, so Elvis was drafted. He didn’t want to go away for 2yrs during the height of his career that literally seemed to happen overnight! Elvis had to take the lumps & make the best of it. Imagine if Elvis didn’t get drafted. Hmmm, He did become the ‘American boy’ but perhaps he had his own take on his destiny.
While stationed in Ft Hood, Texas his parents would often visit with Elvis & they stayed at Eddie Fadal’s home but his Mama was becoming increasingly ill & eventually passed away. As for traveling, Elvis traveled a lot. 1954, 1955, 1956 Elvis & the Blue Moon Boys traveled by car mostly the backroads throughout the South & Midwest. Elvis did travel to Canada and toured there in 1957 in his gold lame suit. During the movie years, Elvis first thought he would make movies & have concert tours but Hollywood machine couldn’t have fans split their money on a concert or a movie, Hollywood wanted their money out of him so no concert tours while in contract for film making. Fun fact about Elvis, he didn’t like movie musicals. Elvis wanted to be a dramatic actor, not a version of what Hollywood thought he was. Producer Hal Wallis said, Only sure thing in Hollywood is an Elvis Presley movie. He made his money off of Elvis then invested that money into independent films. Elvis didn’t like that & told that to Hal Wallis. Elvis Presley movies also saved a major movie production company. Same thing with Vegas. By the late 60’s there was a steady decline in Vegas. Young people were going to concerts and not going to Vegas. Rat Pack wasn’t playing in Vegas anymore. 1969, Elvis is the new force in Vegas & revitalizes it! Parker loves it cause he could gamble while folks from around the world visit Vegas to see ELVIS! Elvis literally performs 2 shows a night & then a third show was added in ….. the napkin contract Parker made to pay off his gambling debts …..

Oh I must add …. there’s footage of the press conferences in Germany & at Ft Dix March 1960. (Also footage of Private Presley during his induction, physicals, famous hair cut in which Elvis said, “Hair today, gone tomorrow” as he feels his new buzz cut) Elvis was also interviewed by Tina Louise in 1960 Ft. Dix - Tina is most known later on for her role as Ginger in Gilligan’s Island a TV sitcom.

Elvis had to be careful because "the girl he left behind" was the marketing campaign with Priscilla as the model hired to make the commercial pictures. Elvis could not imagine that she would use it to totally erased the fact that they were only friends at that time. In Germany Elvis could speak English with Elisabeth who had much more time with Elvis than Priscilla (who will become more important after Anita had left Graceland almost 3 years later).

    • @melvis170w4
      @melvis170w4 5 дней назад +1

I have no idea what you’re talking about in regard to Priscilla being a commercial model for Elvis’ movies …???
In regard to Elizabeth Stefaniak, a German girl who spoke English also, she became Elvis’ Secretary in Germany. Elizabeth did date Elvis for a brief period, she also slept with him in bed (just as a sleeping companion) because Elvis who had chronic insomnia ALSO would SLEEP WALK. For his own safety, he needed someone with him basically all the time when went to sleep. This sleep walking was something he had since a child. IMO it probably had to do with him being a TWINLESS TWIN. Always needing that other twin with him as he (Jesse) was in the womb but unfortunately was stillborn. Also, Elvis, later in the ‘70’s dated Joyce Bova who was a twin herself and he wanted to know so much about her and her twin sister being twins ….. the nuances of being twins, something he lost because Jesse was stillborn. Elvis was always the searcher.
Back to Elizabeth Stefaniak. Elizabeth began dating Elvis’ good friend, Rex Mansfield. They did marry and Elvis wanted both of them to work for him regularly in the U.S. however the rock n roll lifestyle wasn’t for them and they went on to live as a happily married couple.
When Elvis was in Germany, yes he briefly dated Elizabeth and yes she spoke English HOWEVER, he still wanted to meet and go out with other women. He was frustrated that he had to have someone to translate (meanings & feelings get lost many times in translation) Elvis himself said he was frustrated with that.
When Priscilla went to his party. She was beautiful and she was like a breath of fresh air …. she was an American girl so she was someone he could talk with easily. Plus they had some things in common. Elvis lost his Mama & Priscilla had learned that her real father was James WAGNER a Navy pilot who died in a plane crash when she was a baby. Priscilla thought Paul Beaulieu an Air Force officer was her real biological father until she found hidden paperwork. Paul married her mother in 1948 & they had children together. Priscilla felt like she was somewhat different from the rest of the family and siblings. She felt as though she had to take care of her siblings and she didn’t want that. She wanted out of that. Elvis and Priscilla talked a lot. Elvis was someone who enjoyed good deep conversations and he also enjoyed good jokes etc. Later on in their relationship, Elvis (who was a jokester) said Priscilla wasn’t someone who enjoyed humor & pranks etc. He said he kinda understood that because she lived in a military family. In the end, I don’t think Elvis and Priscilla were ever really a good match. I could go more into that.
Important fact, Elvis didn’t want to get married. It was a sign of the times, one gets married, especially if they happen to live together. Elvis never wanted to get married. One of the reasons he broke up with Linda (besides her cheating with Elvis’ keyboard player, David Briggs) was because of common law marriage. I always thought Linda was probably one of the better girlfriends (also June Juanico, Ann-Margret).
After their breakup and after Elvis passed, she went on to make money on book deals stating she left Elvis etc. Well, since Elvis isn’t here to state the true facts, Elvis broke things up with Linda, PERIOD.
Then there was Ginger …… ughhhh…… according to those who worked & lived in Graceland, they had a tumultuous relationship. And again, Elvis wasn’t going to marry her either. And for those who think otherwise, Priscilla racked in the alimony from Elvis by taking back to court a few times. Does anyone really think he would want another ex-wife to do the same? Elvis created his legacy along with the monetary benefits, he didn’t want nor liked anyone who threatened his legacy! If Elvis wanted to give away cars, homes & money, that was HIS decision to do so.
      Aloha’oe 🤙🏼 🌸

Mike, this interview was done as soon as Elvis came home from his military service, March, 1960. He was at Graceland, in his father Vernon’s office, which is a separate building on the Graceland grounds, not far from the mansion. Elvis was very tired, it was a long trip, had press and camera men following him. At every stop he made, there was a press conference, and many pictures taken. I have to say, I always felt that Elvis looked his very best coming out of the service, his hair, his physic al beauty couldn’t be matched! When his first album came out at that time, called: “Elvis Is Back” I thought it was one of his very best!! The songs on it were outstanding! Pick all or anyone of those songs, you’ll be impressed to say the least. Thanks again Mike for a spot on reaction to Elvis, and his very likable personality! 👍💗🕺🎶

THE best, most cool-headed, polite person to ever do an interview. I would love to hear what he had to say after some press conferences & interviews once he was off-camera. @@therewatchproject Yes. Well there is that issue of genetically inherited health problems. Elvis' maternal grandparents were first cousins. This can lead to various inherited physical problems. Information indicates the gene for alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, which affects the lungs & liver, was inherent in the family. The family health information is quite convoluted, some of which has been questioned for accuracy, much of which is correct. But we do know about Elvis’ multiple health issues which he inherited & had to live with for many years.

Yes, Graceland is second only to the White House. Graceland is a privately owned home so in THAT regard, it’s the number 1 most visited private home as the White House is of course a publicly owned home. Graceland is a most wonderful place to visit. I can remember being there few times when Elvis’ cars were still there in the carport. Visitors were allowed to sit on the lawn and stay as long as possible. Only if you’re inside, you must stick with the group and not wonder about by yourself. Security was tight. During that time you weren’t allowed to use the flash on your camera. Yes, it was still the old days, no I phones at the time. I was an avid photographer and I had to use my flash to get some decent photos. I did the unspeakable, yep, I used my flash not once but a couple times and BAM security seemed to appear from nowhere, maybe behind the drapery! LOL They were going to take my camera from me but I pleaded how I didn’t know how not to the flash. LoL Security was strict and stearn but nice enough to let me keep my camera. Ah such great memories! Graceland is really really a beautiful and peaceful place to visit. When you enter Graceland thru that beautiful front door, you actually FEEL Elvis’ presence and feel as though he’s greeting you while walking down those stairs from his bedroom. I’m not the only one who has had these feelings. Over the years I would read about many other fans visiting talking about their experiences at Graceland and it the same experience I had years before! You can actually feel Elvis’ presence at Graceland and that is why many go back, if they can, because that feeling you experience is somewhat similar to a spiritual feeling or awareness/awakening. Thats why Graceland is so special. I haven’t been there since the new hotel and major changes with the museum across the street. I hope folks still feel Elvis’ spirit at Graceland. I know beforehand Graceland and the surrounding area was more intimate. Yes the planes were there and even his bus was there and I went inside it. The bus is long gone. Cars are inside the museum which is good although, being at Graceland with his cars still parked there was like yeah Elvis is here. I’m sure there are fans who most likely will feel Elvis’ presence there. I hope so! Another fun fact about Graceland is that it was known for Gladys’ spirit being present. Doors slamming or loud sounds could be heard during Elvis’ lifetime. Lisa Marie has talked about it. Those who worked at Graceland have also known about the spiritual activity at Graceland. There should be a video of Lisa discussing the ‘ghosts at Graceland’ during her time growing up at Graceland and if I remember correctly, even as she has stayed at Graceland after it opened up to the public. During the years when Graceland was first opened, Aunt Delta was still living there along a few other relatives. Aunt Delta was someone ya didn’t want to mess with especially after a few. Heck even Elvis had his times dealing with her while flying in the Lisa Marie plane! LoL funny stuff! Anyway, Aunt Delta would make back door deals with visitors selling Elvis’ stuff. (Allegedly) lol Elvis was probably cracking up laughing watching her from the spiritual world. Elvis always said the stuff he gives people (from his jewelry to the cars) he gives to folks so if they need to sell it to help themselves, it’s there for that reason. Elvis was always way ahead of the times and so much of what he did, people didn’t understand, many still don’t understand, but he was always caring & helping people who were struggling because he knew firsthand how it felt and he never forgot that and he never forgot where he came from. I highly recommend everyone to visit Graceland. It truly is a beautiful and wonderful experience.
      ‘Until We Meet Again,
      May Gud Bless You,
      As He Has Blessed Me’

Also some more footage of this interview of him walking at Graceland and eating a guitar shape cake. Regarding his trip to Paris, it is interesting to know from an interview given by John Expetito (one of the .Memphis mafia members) after Elvis' death, about the excitement of the fans in Paris and after their visit to the Moulin Rouge, and the invitation of girls to Elvis' suite, the manager of the Moulin Rouge show called and asked John Expetito to persuade the girls to come back because the show at the Moulin Rouge could not start. It is also sad to know that due to his service in Germany and the conditions that prevailed, for example, having to stay in the snow for hours, his superiors in the army administered the first substances so that the soldiers would not sleep and would be alert, something that brought him into contact with prescription drugs for the first time and is one of the reasons that Elvis was not with us longer, to give us his incredible talent.

And I guess you’re some kind of musician who would actually know, right...? Hmmm, me thinks NOT. Just a couch potato trying to get attention cause no one loves ya. Well if you actually have some time, I’m sure you have a lot of time, you can read about Elvis’ life. Elvis was a twinless twin who was born into poverty. Elvis grew up in what was called, the other side of the tracks, meaning he lived in a property stricken black area. Yeahhhhh that white boy you’re TRYING to make fun of, was born & grew up in poverty in the black areas of Tupelo, Mississippi. His friends were black. When he had to go to school, he hated that he couldn’t go to school with his friends who were black because he HAD to attend the school for white students. Those kids didn’t like Elvis very much because he was a poor kid who wore denim overalls. That’s the reason why he never wore jeans as an adult. Wearing jeans back then meant you were poor. My how the times have changed. So you understand when someone grows up in a certain environment, those experiences influence you as a human being. Elvis has the most beautiful comforting voice ever. Listen to his Gospel songs, his Country songs and songs like If I Can Dream from his 1968 Special. You do realize how many black musicians actually were influenced by Elvis…. A LOT and still are influenced today just like many other artists of other ethnicities. Jimi Hendrix was an Elvis fan. He went to see Elvis in concert as a kid on September 2, 1957 in Seattle at Sick’s Stadium. Jimi drew pictures of Elvis. And as an adult, Jimi didn’t know if he should continue with music anymore however, after watching Elvis in King Creole, it influenced Jimi to continue with his music. Led Zeppelin was also influenced by Elvis and Elvis met them. Elvis also introduced Led Zeppelin during his concert as they were in the audience. Elvis also had the Beatles in his audience, his good friend Sammy Davis Jr who went to many of his concerts & one in particular, Elvis stops the show to say hey Sammy, I love you Sammy, I love you Sammy Davis Jr. My goodness, I could go on and on because Elvis was well respected and loved by everyone in the music world, especially the black community. You see, when Elvis broke down those doors way back in 1954 and by doing so helped the black artists. Elvis hit it big time in 1956, Elvis was severely criticized by conservative groups & religious leaders that he was no good, he was a rebel, a demon, but of course worse words were used. Judges banned Elvis from moving his body onstage. He jokes about it in his ‘68 Special that he could only move his pinky finger. But back then in ‘56, judges went to his concert along with the police who were filming him for proof if he had moved his body. The whole draft was the government trying to control Elvis who was already superstar , the first superstar. Elvis busted down the doors in the music industry and it was beneficial for black artists! You really have no idea what you’re talking about and I feel so sorry for you because the guy you’re attempting to hurt would have helped you in a second. Listen to his songs, really listen to his voice and there ya go, you will be a better human for it and this, Elvis will have helped you!

Hi Mike, you mentioned Elvis being humble when he said something about bragging. I wonder if that humbleness also applied when he was not quite truthful about “eating out” and saying he didn’t go anywhere except Paris. There are a number of stories about him going to different spots such as Munich (which was a multi day trip). Elvis was very conscious that a percentage of his fanbase was from poorer socio economic circumstances, so maybe his responses were in deference to them, trying to minimise his social advantage. Also, Elvis absolutely hated people seeing him eat, which meant, even in Memphis and Hollywood, he mostly ate at home and used room service when he toured.

I wish he was not so polite. That and the need to maintain a public persona, drilled by the conniving Colonel, it did contribute to his issues later in life. Of course, his fame had no rulebook yet.
