One of the things I find most delightful about people I know well is when they do or say something that is SO who they are, it makes me smile. Your repeated phrases give me that same, comfortable, easy feeling. It doesn’t matter that I know very little else about you. Those repeated phrases make you seem like an old friend. I have a few favorites (Commence to removing this tennon, Left hand on the switch right hand on the gouge, As soon as I get my mask on). Familiar is good. Then when you throw in “it’s sanding sealer, DUH,” I laugh out loud. If you change your presentation I’d miss those things, but you do you, and if you’re bored with yourself, we’ll adapt. 🥰 Thanks for your terrific content every week!

There is comfort in routine and tradition. Those of us who have watched you for a long time know that you will teach techniques, safety, and creativity as you turn your works of art, so that no matter who is watching, those good messages will be heard. What a shame if a new viewer didn't have a chance to understand the wood worm screw, or see the sand o flex smoothing bark, or watch the magical removal of the little nub. As a fellow named Mr Rogers always said, "I like you just the way you are".
The bowl is beautiful! Thank you and Happy Birthday to Tuffy! Thank you Phil!

Thank You Phil...I forget which one that was. Could it be Silk Oak? I put some leaves in a zip-lock bag in the bottom and a description of the tree? Or not, cause I also forget. Silk Oak comes from Australia/New Zealand and used for landscaping in the Bay Area....Gee Phil I would probably have trouble sleeping Thursday night if you stopped doing your spiel, ha... until next time ...TM

PLEASE continue to talk us through what you are doing!! Sure, I've seen and heard it before, but reminding is always helpful. When I first started watching your videos, I was wintering in Yuma, Arizona, so I didn't have my wood lathe with me. So when I got home, I watched more and could go right to my lathe and practice! Also, there will be some new viewers, and they would need to listen, watch, and learn from you. We "older" viewers can still learn! A side note: I have discovered that with shellac, you can add an additional coat, and the shellac will fuse with the former coat, and not just add a new coat on top of the old. That's why you can keep your brushes for so long--the shellac just softens the old shellac on the brush, and it all blends together. And be assured that I do like the shape that you made. It is beautiful wood, and a beautiful bowl, as well!😊

Hey Phil, so glad that you eventually came 'round to liking this piece. It looked for a moment as if you were going to be sad and disappointed with something that is actually quite nice. :-). The slightly unusual color and the dark spots on the wood make it visually interesting.
It will be interesting to read other people's comments about going over many of the same steps in each turning. To long-time viewers, the repetition might be dull, but to new viewers, the information could still be valuable.
In any case, thank you for another fun video and thanks to Tuffy for sending the wood.
    P. S. The notion of celebrating your birthday by giving something to someone else, (as Tuffy seems to have done), sounds intriguing.

I turn a lot of wood of unknown origin, I am always pleases with the results. I too have to change my horse in the middle of the stream to get my results To begin with, it not looking like the results you were expecting and expressing how disappointed with the looks you were going for, all your changes worked, I would show it off to everyone the result was a beautiful bowl. I would always keep on explaing what you are doing and not should not bore anyone. We all need a reminder once in a while. If you feel you are too good to be reminded, you might miss some of Phils valuable teachings. He tells us HOW, WHERE, AND WHEN he accomplishes to get the professional look out of all his turnings. Hi Phil, I think you find is called Pippi oak, I remember from years and years ago I was working doing subcontract work for a organ building company back in the UK, and we had to make the whole casement, And veneer panels were done in it, Great job, Phil, and I think you’re right it is better using a turning tone to remove the pip ha ha, then it is to use a hand chisel, as you cook quite easy not quite cut it properly and remove a dibit in the centre, Great work, another piece of work for your art collection,

Morning Phil, My tea is cold again LOL.
Great video Phil and a lovely looking live edge bowl.
I know the words you say off by heart when you remove the tenon and your videos would not be the same without them.
I do not know anyone who removes the nub so perfectly.
So please keep it all in.
    Take care my friend.
    Cheers, Huw

I like the shape. It looks like a old woven basket. I love the talking, I don't subscribe to folks who don't tell me what they're doing.

Very nice bowl. Like the character in the grain and dark areas. Like that’s it has a low glaze finish. 👍

i love all the little dark spots and fissures and the chocolate bark really sets off the lighter wood

Thanks Phil for another lovely bowl. The shape turned out great. I thought when you cut the tenon and set the bowl bottom it would come into the shape you were looking for. Never stop talking. I like to hear you tell us what you’re doing and why. Don’t stop.
    Thanks for the show.
    Joel

Howdy Phil, Your bowl is a thing of beauty indeed. Very nice grain and finish. I have some Live Oak that I salvaged from a throw away bin at a nearby lumber mill. They salvage whole trees that have either fallen from wind storms or have been cut by the city or requested to be cut by property owners. What I have is mostly the outer part of the trunk so has a lot of the bark still on it. I've sealed it and it's just waiting for my attention. I have other projects ahead of this though. I was thrilled to see you work this as I now know what's ahead for me. Thanks. Take care and keep turning. Bill Riley.

I wasn't sure I was looking at your video. After checking, I finally hear you at 1:07 minute. So many other wood turners don't speak at all! I like dialogue. I recognized wood as live oak. Most of the oak trees in my area are live oak. Nice bow, Phil!

    Good morning, Phil.
Excellent project video. Regarding stopping or changing your describing what you are doing, I would maintain the routine. Some of us follow along with you, word for word. Others, new to your videos, not only see what and how you turn bowls but also hear your verbal description. I believe that is part of why many people follow you.
Your bowl is amazing. Great shape for sure. Always look forward to your work and videos. Until the next time.

Phil your videos are great! I am a bit dismayed watching without you talking. I get so much enjoyment from your videos and you talking about what you are doing and such. In all honesty I did not complete the video. I give a thumbs up out of respect for you, but not my thing without commentary as the vibe and enjoyment comes from you talking through video making it a personal experience. Mad respect for you and your quality work.
