Ringer Jake I have been interested in half-muffled bells (in spite of the bittersweet sound) ever since Princess Diana's funeral. At the time I didn't know about half-muffled versus unmuffled, though. I *was* an adult, and have *always* been a music geek; but the minituae of the funeral was a lot to take in I just thought "it sounds bittersweet". It was a couple of years ago, when I started using RUclips regularly, that I learned about half-muffled and fully muffled bells versus unmuffled bells. One of my friends said she also noticed the bells sounded different (but couldn't define what was different about it.) She sings but doesn't play instruments. I'm hard of hearing but I am also an Aspie so I notice details and nuances in music, especially in my favorite instruments (organ, oboe, and bells.) I don't play oboe or bells but I play the organ. I used to play the piano but the organ beats it to a frazzle.) I only started on piano because my ears were too sensitive for the organ until about 30 years ago. It still startles me in the first measure of the processional hymn, but that's because of the transition from silence to fortissimo. I notice different timbres even more than the average amateur musician, because of being an Aspie.

Don't bells 19cwt & heavier need two or more people to raise & lower them?

Max Ganesh not at this tower. We have a clapper turner when ringing it up. Don't need 2 on ringing down.

I have rung down a 35 cwt bell on my own pretty well. I no longer can ring bells at the present moment.
