Its hilarious how people think that they're not good drift cars. They actually are, its just that gen pop tends to not have skills high enough to drive them to that level and thats okay.
People dont drift them because people take the boring easy option mx5 every time. Chuck a torsen from a mk3 into a mk2 and it'll slide all day long, if youre fast enough to catch it. You dont react to a mid engine car sliding, you turn the wheel to catch it as it steps out, or youre too late basically.

Maybe it's not easy to put MR2 in a drift because of mid engine and catch a moment of oversteer for the rookie but it just mean you need to practice a lot to be good in this. And this method could be applied to any drift car, so you need to practice!

For sure mx5 is always the obvious choice but mr2 isn’t for the faint of heart but love them cars 👌
