This RUclips Exclusive series will be 5 Episodes covering some the good and bad of the NA, NB, NC and ND cars and what it is like to drive them.

nd miata is one of the best modern sports cars I’ve ever owned. No driving modes need to be chosen, only one push of button to switch esc/tc off, lightweight, manual, torquey engine, reliability etc. It teaches you to be a better driver, let you know how to control your car on the limit and be a part with your car. People don’t understand miatas until they drive it.
Same with my neon canyons handles like a dream
Too bad it looks like poop
Love mine as well.
@Damian Chiliński The Miata RF might be the best looking Miata of all time
Met Tom Matano at a Miata gathering in Sacramento a couple months ago. One thing he said that stuck with me was He wanted to build a fun car with the cost of ownership like a Corolla. Not just maintenance and gas mileage, but insurance too. He said that convertibles were more expensive to insure and that keeping the HP down, they could keep the car affordable.
Did you ask him why they made it so under powered
@@behindthen0thing525 that answer is in the comment.
@@Technoflicks he could've made it more powerful without making it more expensive

As an 86 owner, I have great respect for Miatas and the efforts they've put into this platform. Always would love to come across with them as both the 86/brz and mx5 community seem to have somethings in common. Lightweight, RWD, High-Revving NA and most importantly, the handling and balance from both cars. Tackling through the twisities and mountain pass is where these types of cars truly shines.
One of the best miata centered suspension companies (Xida/949) actually just started making coilovers for the 86.
My best friend has a BRZ and he is so happy that I am getting an ND2 MX-5. We are like brothers. Best friends for nearly 20 years. I love his BRZ but would never get one. He loves the Mx-5 but would never buy one. They are both amazing cars. You have to get which ever one draws in more. They are like brothers, just like my friend and I.
Have owned an FR-S and an NB, your comment is very true. Both cars are very rewarding to drive, and I like to feel I am using more than 50% of the car's ability on a regular basis.
I wish the 86 and Miata came with NA Inline 6's, that revved to 8k RPM. That would be pretty cool
@@93455Driver Whats the biggest differences in your opinion? I had a NB for a long time but never drove a FR.
I'm here in 2023 and I love my NE Miata. By far the best Miata yet.
so it has 4 EV motors powering each wheel and it's self driving?
@@aceofspades6667 Sounds like it has a flux capacitor as well :)
@@daveprice4982 nope just the future of automobiles.. all tech no balls
NE is the fiat 124. NF is the 124 Abarth. The next miata probably won't be an N platform if they make one. It'll probably share with the new sports car they're developing like the NC did with the RX8.
@@aceofspades6667 Eww hell no. Dual Core single package Electric Motor to the Rear Wheel with a 4 Speed Manual Shifter. That's the dream NE Electric Miata.
www.motor1.com/news/380563/ford-mustang-lithium-manual-sema/ - similar drive train swapped into Mustang S550.
Just two minutes into this series and it's magic. Hats off to you, SG.
I love the hell out of my NA and have spent way too much on my car, I recently had the rust sorted out professionally and gave it a new laguna blue paintjob. Cost me a kidney and a half but the joy my car provides to me is priceless. My car's always there for when I'm feeling kinda down and if I want entertainment I always find a way to wrench on it and have fun. I love my little friend, always bringing out a smile out of me.
As a ND owner as well as 440i owner - I can say Miata is always the answer
kudos 0000 pretty sure he meant Miata. Long live Miata!
I wish this documentary engaged with the younger crowd (20 somethings) too. I started a Miata club in my state because the older generation of owners already had their club and with their retirements/free time, the younger crowd went by the wayside. So the new younger club has more modifications, helps with builds, have barbecues, and go on drives as well. (not as often because of work and school, but still!), it's a car that really does mix generations together, it's always a blast. I love the older folks who talk to us and shoot the shit.
M N what state are you in? 🙂
Nora Brown MN = Minnesota. j/k 😄
The older ones bought their first Miata when they were still young. When you're the old guy, you'll understand.
Anyone else here Jonesing for the NC episode that was supposed to be released today?
Can't tell you how many times I've refreshed my RUclips tab looking for it - LOL.
Im 28 and I love my 2017 mx-5 fastback launch edition. Its the perfect car to zip around in, I get around 30 mpg too. Its my second miata as i had a mazdaspeed turbo'd one in highschool and you cant beat the way it handles at that price point. Down the road i'll put the edelbrock supercharger on it, heavier sway bars, and a posi to make it really fly and make it handle great. The nappa leather is beautiful too and mazda really knows how to make a good 6 speed manual transmission.
sweet the '17 RF launch edition with that brown/auburn interior on the machine grey is a sexy combo!
@@aceofspades6667 its a good looking car. Has the black painted roof too. It even came with a torneau watch numbered with the car as its only one of 1000. Its number 460 something. Definitely a keeper. Had to own one previously and applied online to get it. I remember the email saying I had one reserved for me. Only option was auto or manual as it had every bell and whistle for that year.
Be easy on that 17 transmission, they explode
@@Shakshuka69 I heard that it was about 2016 productions. I own 2017 mx5 rf. I love my car but i always feel hesitation about transmission. Can you eleborate your statement? If there are any links to forum pages i will be glad.
@@ddogukanakcay every year they have been improving the transmissions. Currently they are on v5. They strengthened 2nd and 3rd plus improved the synchros. As long as you don't autocross it or drive really hard you should be ok.
Can't wait for the rest of the videos. Just bought my first miata, a 92 mariner blue, that I just had painted, and I'm finishing up an interior restoration, including a dash swap, new seats, carpet and top. Can't wait to drive it!
You’re the reason I bought a brand new ND2, savagegeese. Thank you for this Christmas gift to car enthusiasts everywhere.
Same here. I just brought my 2020 RF home yesterday. I’m in love. Haven’t been this excited about a car in a long time and I’ve had many.
@@kogrady2409 congratulations on that! I just got a club .
Ah, a documentary of the miata, a car impossible to hate if you're a car enthusiast. Except if you're too tall or too insecure. I happen to belong to the first category, though i still respect what mazda did with such a simple concept.
the bmw z - series should fit tall people i think. but those cost more:(
Look into lowering brackets for the driver's seat.
6'3 NA fits me

I’m excited to see this series. You really are good at what you do sir! It would be a real loss if you got bored and stopped making content. So please keep doing what you do, the way you are inspired to do it. Because we love you for it Mr. Mark S. Goose, you hear me? We freaking love you. -happy holidays from Maui🤙
The miata is such a great car. For 2k I get to enjoy what to me is an exotic driving experience. I love my miata and I will never sell it.
Owning a Miata is a liberating experience. Especially if your coming from a Porsche Boxster. The Boxster is great but is higher maintenance and not as much fun to drive. Miata is lighter and much more nimble. It’s just the most nimble fun car I’ve ever driven and fast enough because it’s so light. When you own a Porsche you worry about mileage and it’s condition. The Miata is bullet proof and easy to live with. It’s cheap to buy and cheap to keep!!! Fun and easy to live with on a daily basis.
Thanks SG! I want an ND2 so badly I can taste it and in the next 3-6 months those '19 models should be right around the $25k price point. RWD + ST + MT + light weight + high-revving NA engine = perfection
Ace of Spades I know someone who bought a 2019 Sport for 23k new recently. I bought one for 26k early in the year. Best value in new sports cars.
If you’re cool with used, these get cheap fast, and plenty of 19’s have already been traded in.
@@thatoneotherotherguy I require at least the Club trim non Brembo/Recaro/BBS package or the Grand Touring GTS package. An LSD is necessary for proper handling.. I'm not impressed with Bilstein dampers so would prefer the Fox setup from Flyin Miata and will go aftermarket for Wildwood brakes and better wheels. Finally the ND2 powertrain is a 100% must have for me as the ND1's didn't rev nearly as high which for me is so much more fun.
@@aceofspades6667 : You have it exactly figured out, except I would advise that you buy NOW, and not wait a few months. Inventory will be low of the most desirable model -- which happens to be the one you want. Mazda is offering 0.9% financing for 60 months and no payments for the first three months right now -- no telling when they will change that. No payments for three months -- that's like another $1,000 off, on top of the below-market interest rate. In effect, Mazda is paying you now to not wait the two or three months you're thinking of waiting. Also, dealers are already taking around $4K off the $30K MSRP. Dealers could go lower, but not much lower. If there's a Mazda in your household (even if someone else owns or leases it), you get another $750 off. Search out current inventory online and make a deal for what you want now, before it's gone.
Like you I lusted for an ND and bought a Sport model new for $24,800. So there’s no need to wait. If you don’t drive it competitively you don’t need the Club. And hold off before modifying it. An ND2 Sport will deliver all the real-world driving fun you could ask for.
@@johntechwriter Thanks John and I plan on driving the teets off of it... I live in Utah so plenty of mountains to pound around and we have a nice selection of auto-x and the miller motor sports racetrack within 30 min. IMO the LSD is a must for driving at 8/10+. Glad you're happy with yours as $24.8k is a killer deal.
Watching this in my NA with a dead battery while I wait for a jump
Really looking forward to the whole series SG. Your videos are way above everyone else. I was glad to see you getting a shout-out and recognition from R & T. Justly deserved.
Looking forward to this series! Your way of telling a story has always been compelling so cant wait to dive deep into the Miata legacy.
Mark and Jack, thank you so much for putting the time and effort into creating this amazing video series. My respect for the MX-5 and the people behind it has grown tremendously because of your videos. In an era where most car channels focus on people acting goofy or showing off their latest exotic car purchase, it is refreshing to watch content that has actual useful information. Thank you for the hard work and dedication.
Production value is out of this world! Looking forward to watching every episode in this series.
Amazing video and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. The production quality rivals many big budget documentaries, and I'm again reminded why this is my favorite automotive channel.
Awesome video, geese. I can't wait for the next videos. This one is easily one of your best
You put a lot of work in to this video and it shows, looked awesome on my 4K TV ! I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
Mark, your videos are the only ones I will only watch on my TV because of the production values. Thank you for all the effort!
Mark, thank you for a wonderful Christmas gift. This chapter on its own is an appropriately epic introduction to the greatest sports car ever built. The Miata will keep alive for future generations the British tradition of the affordable, great handling, fun-to-drive roadster.
Really something an each Miata enthusiast must see, especially for the parts with Mr. Coleman. His development stories bring a superb added value to the entire Miata legacy, especially about NC and ND generations. I don't know if you do this YT channel for a living, but I really envy you this job ;) Greetings from Poland.
Never thought a car review video could be this elegant, great work!
This video series is a great idea. I'm really looking forward to the future installments.
Watching this video you would probably think only 60+ year old people drive miatas...
thats what im thinking
If you took a look at the photos of the Miata club in my state you’d think you were looking at a hospice center. I just got an ND2 but I feel like I’d age 30 years if I ever went to one of their events.
ToxicHorsePucky I was thinking the same. Looks like the same demographic as Harley riders.
I would LOVE to buy an old miata and convert to electric.
It said ep1. I think (hope) there will be a follow up with the younger fans not just the “wine and cheesers!”
production value 12/10
It always is with Savagegeese! Friggin art.
Agree completely. Camera angles and composition are world-class.
I have always been a big fan of your videos but you have brought the production quality of recent videos to professional network grade. Well done, sir! Thank you for producing such enjoyable and knowledgeable content on this often overlooked automotive segment. I look forward to the remaining episodes in this series. - Current AE30 ND and former AP1 owner
Yassss so cool to see this, thanks for putting this together! Can’t wait for the other episodes!
World class review. You knocked it out of the park! Look forward to the remaining series.
Such a great series! I first watched this over a year ago and made me want to buy a Miata. Now I proudly call me the owner of a 2000 NB Miata and I am watching the documentary for the second time. Keep up with the great job SG
Really looking forward to seeing the rest of the series, great work.
Owned my 94' Miata for 14- years. Did all maintenance myself and it was the best and most fun car I have ever owned. I will buy one in the future again. Just a great car that stemmed from an automotive philosophy. Mazda had the vision and guts to stick with it! 👍
Cannot wait to see the remaining videos, a fantastic job you have done with the first segment!
the most i love about this channel is how soft story telling. mild. nice so smooth. it gives you a very nice feeling while you are watching
OH MY GOD, YESSS! Thank you for doing this! It was always a question to me - with all of the love for s2000 and all track RWD car talk in every episode, why hasn't there been an extensive episode (let alone series) on each of the miatas, as they appear so different yet still a popular choice among car enthusiasts. Thank you so much!
I really can’t believe this is the 30th anniversary of the Miata
And the best thing about it is that it kept its simplicity even as a modern car and it’s still fun to drive
Another excellent high quality video. Love what you are doing with your channel. You are honest and informative. I actually purchased a 2002 AP1 because of your buyers guide. Keep the great content coming!!
Honestly i feel like Mazda is one of the greatest car companies to ever exist. They just got something about their brand, it hits my feelers
World class videography. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Thanks.
Excellent job. The production is top notch. Can't wait to watch the entire series. Thanks for this Christmas present!
Wow. Be proud of this video. This is tv-quality stuff right here. Beautifully shot and edited with a coherent story that flows perfectly.
reliability is spectacular for most all NA- but the early 1.6L had a possible crank wobble issue- short nose crank issue. It was later fixed with the "big nose" crank 1.6L in, what, mid 1991 perhaps. These are still autocross weapons. Although I'm an s2000 owner, I really love the miata all the same. Long live the manual!
Driving is so easy it has become more dangerous. Manual keeps one focused on the road. If self-driving vehicles havn't matured by the time my kids start driving, they getting a stick shift lmao. "daaaaaaaaaahhhhaaaaad wtf is this" XD
@@oculophilia918 The ND's continue to have terrible manual tranny reliability in 2nd/3rd gear keep getting grenade'd even into V5. Other than that the current gen has been bullet proof.
Goosebumps! Thank you SG, cant wait for this incredible series.

As magical as Miata is, you sir are the one who does it proud with your stellar documentary during it's 30th anniversary.
We are proud a part of your flock. Thank you!
I've owned both an NA and now an NB, and enjoyed both and especially the power increase in the NB. Can't wait to see the NB documentary on 12/30. Very nice job documenting the car's history. Interviews especially insightful into the reasoning behind the car's development. Thank you for doing this!
I have professionally repaired and driven every generation of the Mazda MX-5. They are all awesome! Awesome beyond belief. These cars are brilliant in design. Everyone should drive an MX-5 at least once in their life. You will have a smile with every mile while driving any MX-5.
Well done and played, Mark. Looking forward to all installments of this series.
Really enjoyed this video and looking forward to the next. Thank you and the guys from Mazda for the time and effort to make this
Great video! I can't wait for the following episodes. I owned a 1990 NA for 4 years (was my daily driver) until this past June, I bought a brand new 2019 ND Club. Best life decision I've made so far.
This is a pleasant surprise. Great editing and music. I never gave Miata's a chance, despite being a huge JDM nerd in the early 2000s. I finally drove a lightly modded NC about 5 years ago at Harris Hill out in Austin. It blew me away how fun it was, how perfect the steering felt, how I could carry speed through every corner and just rip it. I was instantly hooked and traded my 328 for one a couple weeks later. While the stock NC is a bit of a boat, no doubt, coilovers and a few exhaust bits make this car a blast to drive every single day. I'm in the Miata for life club, for sure.
Christmas came early this year! Best new series a guy could ask for
You have obviously been working your ass off, I hope you make a million dollars as this channel grows! Such a great series!!! You are the people's champion car reviewer with a healthy side of sarcasm and wit. Thank you for what you do.
Thanks for this Mr. Goose. I’m fortunate enough to have purchased an NC2 last month. I’m loving every minute in it. 👍🏼
This is so good, so pure. I don't even like Miatas, but good lawd... cheers savagegeese! You are killing it!
What's not to like. They're perfect
What a great Christmas present, thank you Mark !
I now pronounce you man and Miata.
Thank you for making this series Goose!! Well done!!

There's lots of competent car shows that could learn a few things from your videos. This is so great.
Your hard work shows, SG. Really well shot video on my favorite subject. Love all Miatas, especially my ND2.

Love Mazda’s
Came here via Road & Track. Very well done! Looking forward to the other episodes.
I drove my '94 from '96, when I bought it, until 2014. 18 years. I never even had to replace a light bulb.
Mine was black with a tan leather interior. Speakers on the head rest, tweeters on the doors. Great sounding system. Great car. I sold it in 2014 with about 85k miles on it for 6 grand! It looked perfect. Always garaged. The top was perfect. Great machine.
Great video, pal!
Outstanding video!! I’m really looking forward to the series!!
The 30th Anniversary model makes it 8 Miatas for me as well, though I've been addicted since 1993 :) Thanks for contributing to the legacy of this great lineage, with your video series!
Great vid as always Mark. Congrats on passing 300K subscribers! You deserve a great many more. I own three 911s including a 2018 GT3 and have garage space issues. However, I just can’t get myself to sell my 2014 NC PRHT. Great fun to drive.
Awesome video. Cant wait to see the rest of the series. Congrats on 300k!
Spectacular Doc, looking forward to the ND. Also, shoutout at 3:15 to my office building in the background right there by JWA.
Fantastic work, looking forward to the next three episodes. I’m just bummed I will never be able to enjoy this vehicle from the driver’s seat being a husky 6’ fella. You can see all the work that went into this video; so much so that I am reluctant to beg you to do more video series like this....
Beautiful!! I needed this to lift my spirits in a very tough month for me after losing my dad... he and I worked in one of the Miatas I had... it always brought us closer. Need to find another one... thank you Mark for making this video. Muchas muchísimas gracias!
Good luck brother. Keep your head up. He's always here trust me. He didn't go anywhere...
I wish Netflix or similar picked you up to do a series as this needs to be shared with the world. Such a great piece. Thanks Dr Goose
Thank you for representing Mazda in a great light! We appreciate it. Much love
The production on this video is perfection! Christmas and New Year made!!!
Owned an ND. Amazing car. Then sold it and got a NC2 as the passenger legroom in the ND was just not good enough for any regular sized passengers. Active bonnet in the ND was also a pain point for me. Turns a slight bump with no damage, into a $4000 repair if you hit the smallest Kangaroo/Koala at about 5kms an hour (like I did).
Did you have the factory subwoofer? I think I saw an article on miata.net where a person removed it to add a ton of leg room
"just not good enough for any regular sized passengers."
It works for small asians.
@@alansmilealot I did not know about the footwell mod. Seems interesting. However we still had issues with my partners legs hitting the dashboard as the seats don't go back far enough to avoid the dashboard. (Shes 5"10 for reference). Its still not enough space in the footwell for the bare essentials (eg, handbag, hat, drink bottle). NC takes all this easily.
@@mrcn119t6 A manlet or a small petite asian at around 5ft would be the only thing that could comfortably fit? But the ND really designers really should of sorted out the passenger area better.
FORGETFULFOOT what do you mean by active bonnet?
You make car videos so interesting to watch! My favorite car channel.
These videos are right up my alley. I have an NA and NB. Looking forward to those videos.
This is going to be good. I'm pretty excited about this series!!
