"Baraw (knife) is not meant to be seen, is meant to be felt" it means the knife is not to be shown off but to use it.

Sensei Smith, The guy you watching in this video he is the one who able to helps many defense team from all over the world and he's always carries the art of Kali(weapon based martial arts, and natural combat meant to focus on finish anyone with or without weapon as you're the weapon what you carries that's an extension of yours.) the clarity of likewise persons are insane as they dedicated their lives only for this. I request your to please react on channel called "Funker tactical" i m sure you'll love it.

Good that you found that channel. There is another video with Doug discussing the connection of Kali with the Philippine folk dance. You might want to check that out.

Weapons are meant to be felt not seen. What he means is that weapons are made and carried to be used, its not made and bought to simply be on display. An attacker with a weapon will likely use it on you and not display it. Hence to be felt and not seen

When he said weapons are meant to be felt means that an opponent should never see the knife until he feels it stabbing him.

Figthng in the streets of the Philippines is about survival not fairness. You thought your against one. Until you turn your back another one came out of no where with a knife stuck in your back.

Very very true, theres no such thing as mano e mano, You thought some people are just there to watch some just hit you unexpectedly

Weapon is not for show off He means.
And fighting is not for a friendly thing in real life. Always remember that there's no fair fight in real life.

I love those little stories you include in your video. Thanks for sharing those adventures you had. Here in California is getting uncontrollable, one must learn how to get away from sticky situation.

2:50 he meant, weapon is meant to hurt people not for intimidation.

it meant caught them off guard, dont let them prepare so you gain advantage.
if you show them your weapon in advanced, they will also get one and them being prepared means harder battle

It's meant to be felt by the receiver. Not to be seen by him. If you show your weapon, the opponent will already know what to do.

Think of it as Ninjutsu. Their weapons are meant to be hidden most of the times.

Weapon is ment to be felt. Example if I bite you my weapon is my tooth. If I scratch you it is my finger nail. But nothing beat my technique the run and hide technique.

The deadly weapon is always hiding if bringing weapon will you expose it like bringing a grocery bag?

  • @davidmcnaughton7486

Felt not seen meaning the only one who should know you have the weapon is you. By the time they have seen it you would have already been mixing it into the fight and have damaged them

The instructor needs to know a true double leg take down is not as easy to “catch” as how he demonstrated.
