Great video, have had my Evo for a few days and think this is a good and fair summary. I thnk the speakers may be subjective because I think they sound great but others really don't like them. I also think the d-pad is very nice (though I'm mostly in it for the fighting games). My gripes are really the fact that the buttons are just a little small, close together and a bit loud (totally a nitpick), but the lack of an audio jack is unforgivable in a unit this size. Am pretty happy with it though (I have the white one and the design is just gorgeous and it's super comfy to hold)
Got my white production unit for 3 days, love the screen, ergonomic are pretty good, sticks very nice, horrible speakers compared to SD oled, ally x, odin 2, psv etc. good battery life for my use case which is mostly streaming from my home pc. btw the stick caps are interchangeable with kk 2 pro controller, they sell a pack of 3 pairs of different heights.
The D-pad is too much directly under the joystick, have to bend your thumb back towards your palm to use it for a longer game session or hold the device in a way that is not allowing you to enjoy the great hand grips to the fullest.
the top red buttons are not programmable yet thats incorrect info you gave, however I emailed them to please allow this in a future update and they gladly took the feedback so hopefully soon.
i don't see how 165 Hz is ever going to be used on a retro emulation device. does anyone have any suggestions of where and how it could get used? I feel like the target audience for this device is actually "competitive" mobile fps gamers and gacha game players, it will run these very well and probably reach over 100 fps on them. and i think for *those* people, it would be worth it.
@@B_Machine does streaming at a high refresh rate even work? the bandwidth must be enormous, even for wired, which i don't think android can even do at all. besides, any latency advantage is eaten by streaming. so no point?
@@cheater00 I'm not sure how bandwidth intensive it is or what the fps cap is, but I know higher than 60 is certainly doable with sunshine/moonlight within your home network.
@@cheater00 Higher refresh at 1080p isn't that bad. 1080p 120hz at 4:4:4(uncompressed) is about 8.25 gbp/s. Wifi 7 highest speeds should be about 11.7 gpb/s. Though that would be in an ideal scenario. Also the expense of a wifi 7 router would add to the cost of the device. All would need to be tested and confirmed. Might be possible to buy an Anker 2.5 ghz usbc-RJ45 adapter. That should do the trick but it'd add an additional cable.
One thing to look into is drive/compatibility issues with the G3X Soc, some android games are not compatible at the moment, even with spoofing. Other than that this device has smaller face buttons than the odin portal. Also, Ayn just has better software. Outside of that, it seems better in every other way.
@@Darkmetamorphosis1 I thought about it but I've learned my lesson with devices that have directly above/below joysticks or dpads. Makes for a terribly uncomfortable experience.
I feel like a Ferrari.... Is overpriced. But there are people who are over rich and Ferraris are a very clever way of taking their money away from them.
I'd love to play my old PS2, PSP and PS3 games but i can't spend the time or energy to try to rip all my old media. If i get any handheld it would be the Ally X and play my pc games. I don't know how you retro guys spend all that effort to jail break old systems. If i really need to play old games, I just play them in the old systems.
FYI: Ferrari is overpriced. Not because of engineering is because of exclusivity. When a Brake rotors cost between $6,000 to $8000 each you understand that a blue collar person would be able to maintain a car like that
the whole POINT of a ferrari is to be overpriced. it's a status symbol that says: I have enough money to literally flush a hundred thousand dollars down the toilet. And if you want to see the quality of what you're buying, go to the metalworking subreddit and search for 'ferrari welds'. You'll see a lot of testimonials as to the quality of that business.

Unless someone has money to burn the top models don't make sense. Early bird pricing on the cheaper models started at $380 and as mentioned in the video, would be fine for most use cases. RP5 is a good pairing since it's a smaller device with the a better dpad but weaker chipset, smaller screen and without full size sticks. So it's different use case for the EVO. EVO should work well as a local streaming device with the higher refresh AMOLED screen, a bit sleeker than the Deck with options to emulate on the go.
If it matters, I've had the Evo for a while and am a huge fan of fighting games and I think the d-pad is great, I was immedaitely able to dragon punch and fireball my way to victory. Objectively, it doesn't feel as nice as the vita-like d-pad on the Odin 2 or the Pocket S (my favourite d-pad on any device) but it's certainly not bad.
1:32 man I hope they release more and more devices like this and start changing people's minds about mobile gaming, it's not all gacha noncence, the subscription services have been pulling some cool indie pc games, like dead cells, or the gta trilogy, square has a decent catalog of classic RPGs. Netflix just yesterday announced their squid game game that might be good, Crunchyroll started getting some games like 9 years of shadows and enternights Please stop saying it's all gacha nonsense, they are going to stop getting us cool ports and give up if people don't change their mind and try the good games on mobile. IMO the biggest problem with mobile is the controlls, not just that touch controls feedback isn't as good, but you can't have as many because of clutter. But with devices like this, that's not a factor. I hope we keep getting them so they consider adding controller support more often
He didn’t even say steam deck? There’s android options with beautiful oled screens that do everything this can do for cheaper too. Even one that basically does more for less because unlike this, it also has a headphone jack…
@@dgevert the man’s name is steamdeckknight, and I’m well aware of that since I own several of them, the portal just looks off to me so I decided to go with the evo
@@dgevert That's why there are different options for different people, no one is forcing you to buy anything. Sure there are cheaper options but like he said, it is nice to have the option to be able to purchase a premium device like this one, which is why I bought this same exact one.
It’s massively overpriced 😂. Look at what it’s capable of and what you’re getting. $800 for 20-30 year old games and Google play store games. Just about any mobile phone can do what this does. Steam Deck or Ally are the sensible purchase and you have money left over to buy some games. This does not represent value for money and should be in the $200 price point. Hence being overpriced. Also, 165hz to play games locked at 30fps? They know their target market for sure 😂
It's not overpriced for the hardware you're getting, it's just that this hardware is complete overkill for gaming on Android... But the hardware is comparable to flagship phones that are over $1000. It's made for someone that wants absolutely no compromises on performance and screen, that costs money (and I also would not buy it, no way, but that doesn't make it overpriced for what it is).
Its primarily for streaming. Android = long battery life and it being great for emulation is a win win. Having a oled high rr 7" screen is a dream for most moonlight users
