G'day J. Some very nice finds and goes to show if you put the time and effort in it does pay off............. although I think after this one I'll start calling you Midas as nearly everything you touch turns into gold lol. Well done mate. Cheers for now aar.
Haha thanks mate. Midas does have a good ring to it.... But youre absolutely correct, you really gotta put the time in, the gold doesn't find itself. All the best. JG.
You're doing a great job making these videos Jay, hope you will continue sharing your experiences, very exciting to see what things come out the ground. cheers mate keep it up!
Cheers Barry. Thanks for your support. I love making the vids and it motivates me more when i get feedback like yours. Ill be making them for some time yet so fear not. All the best. JG.
Thanx for posting.......nice work! I've got a mate just like you.......seems he is like a magnet to Gold too, haha! I'll be hitting the GT goldfields later today so can't wait to get back into it. Thanx for the incentive, keep the finds coming.....
Glad you liked the vid mate. Go hard out there today, leave no branch unturned! Keep me posted on how you go. I love hearing how my viewers are getting on. I hope its a big one!!! JG.
Good to see your still finding the good stuff, you certainly had a great day Jay. That heavy scrub doesn't make it any easier but when your on a run like that it's worth effort for sure. Hope you found more their, as sure you had a return trip again in daylight. Good video. Cheers Peter T
Gday Pete, yeah had a good run out here. All up around 80g. I went back the next day and did pretty good as well.. Ill be posting up that vid next week when i get back from NZ. Have you been out much? JG
That's a nice run, Haven't been out for some time, the arrival off a couple of grandkids has me busy with family stuff, Intend to head out to an old mining area next week for a while for search about.Cheers, Peter
i have always watched gold hunting videos on youtube but yours are the best it really gets you interested in whats going to happen next keep up on the good job :)
Great stuff J. The scrub looks a bit like around Inglewood or Wedderburn. Finding a spot like that is very difficult. Do you mind me asking how long did it take you to find that particular area? Well done!
Impressive finds indeed.I know how hard it is finding some good runs here in central vic.My local goldfield is the Maldon,Muckleford area and the gold hides it self pretty well out this way....cheers.
Yeah it was a pain. But totally my fault, and Minelab were great to fix it for free. I did take the opportunity to dust off the SDC, got a few little bits, but I was hanging to get back to the patch. Good luck out there. JG.
Another great video. Congrats on finding that patch. Just interested in how you actually pick an area to detect in? I generally do loads of research on GeoVic, Tully and Stones maps etc. I then look at old diggings and work back from there but even though I do generally get gold every trip, its normally 2 or 3 bits and never in a patch. Any tips?
Gday Pat, i pretty much do what you do. In fact, youre probably more organised then i am, I mostly just wonder around and hope for the best.I reckon a lot my finds are just luck but i do put a fair bit of time into it. I think what gets me most of my gold is i move a lot of dead branches an bushes etc. When i find a piece, i then spend days looking in the surroundings. Sorry i cant be more definitive. I think the best thing to do to maximise your yields is just hard yakka and putting the time in. With regards to not finding a patch, id say that someone had been there before you/us and the GPZ is getting what the older machines have missed. That happens to me a lot, just getting the scraps. Just remember where they are and hit them up again with the new coils or newer tech. Good luck. JG
Thanks for the reply JG. Glad to see I am not too far off the mark. I can only get up to the GT once a week, generally on a Saturday and after driving for a few hrs I find it hard to spend a lot of time in an area that doesn't appear to be productive. If you ever see a white Mercedes Vito van (with Central Appliance Service written on the side) in the middle of the bush, be sure to drop over and say gidday.
Hi there JG, you were careful not to strike that one with the pick so will you be selling that nugget as a piece of jewelry? Is it worth more as an unblemished nugget (in that area) than its weight in 24 carat refined gold? I really appreciate your no BS style of video making.
Gday Stan, All the big nuggets are better off being sold as a complete nugget, rather then melting it down. You can usually get a 10% premium on bigger stuff, and the bigger the gold, the more premium you get. The nuggets are about 23k, usually have a bit of silver and copper and some other minerals in them. I try and keep the vids real, about gold and nothing else... noting worse then someone rotting on about garbage and the junk metal they find along the way. Cheers, JG
Thanks PW. What a lot of people dont understand is the amount of effort it takes to find gold, especially these days. It doesn't just jump into your pocket. Thanks for the comment. All the best. JG.
Do it mate. If it aint me, some other bastard will beat you to it.!! Although its been a bit wet lately in the GT, makes for less then favourable detaining conditions. All the best, GL and HH. JG.
Yeah it certainly is a good feeling. There was indeed, mostly ironstone with a sprinkling on quartz on the surface. That's what attracted me to the area in the first place.
Nice work ol mate, i would call that a ‘dream’ day out with my gold monster. Bet you cant wait for the dse to do a burn off round there so you can go back and get fairdincum. Cheers pal
Thanks Mitchell. I got lucky here. Someone had been on this patch in the past but left a few nice bits. I reckon he did alright though. Some pretty decent holes were dug. All the best. JG
Great videos mate , presume you need to obtain a mining rights licence before you can hunt , is the land you hunt on privately owned , or is it owned by mining companies ?
J Gold - The best videos and narrative from an Aussie. Nice and quiet without tone noise from detector. Nice use of pin pointer. Cut background and detector noises makes your videos very desirable to watch. Practice cutting the tone off detector.Trying to understand you blokes and hearing wind noise and tone sucks, yeah huh!
haha, thanks mate. Its a work in progress, I'm trying to make the vids more watchable as we go on... Its not as easy as you'd think, keeping you blokes happy! haha.. Thanks for the feedback. All the best. JG
There is no water nearby so id have to cart it around which would very difficult when detecting, plus we cant use machinery to dig so it would get very laborious for potentially little yield. It would defiantly be feasible in some situations but not something i really consider as i just like digging up big nuggets... Its also a time issue.... if i spend a few hours panning for a few grams of gold dust, i could probably find more with the detector.
Cheers Tom, yeah crazy hey. He defiantly found some gold alright, but was kind enough to leave me a few. I aint complaining.haha. How you guys getting on? Been out much?
yeh getting a few also mate, Just been going out close to home. Getting harder with this weather though... Im itching to get out more. Will sneak out tomorrow for the day.
Yeah I've heard of a few situations when huge nuggets have pretty much been on the surface, it makes you wonder how 40 years of gold detecting have missed them. Gives us all hope there are more out there!!! GL and HH. JG.
I think It has lot's to do with mineralization, old VLF detectors used to go off a lot in higly mineralized ground and it was fustrating, today PI detectors are much better at ground cancelling.
Yeah mate, there is heaps of gold in Aust, there was a hell of ally more but the old timers took it all!! I just keep the gold. Ill sell it eventually. Cheers.
Well done on a great day out! Could you suggest some settings? Mainly sensitivity, threshold and smoothing. Do you run with audio smoothing on or off and if so- low or high? cheers Garry
Gday Gary, my settings depend on the day, ground and EM. If the ground is hot i run a lower in the vicinity of 10-12, higher if the ground can handle it. Threshold is always around 23. Smoothing for me is a remedy for EMI, if there is a lot of EMI i run smoothing on LOW. I never use HIGH smoothing though, id rather back off the sensitivity. I hope this helps. Cheers. JG.
Good video! Today's gold hunting metal detector enthusiast needs to become a "real" prospector and not just travel to the already known sites that have been picked over by 1000's of other metal detector operators. Well, a book has been published recently that has received the highest ratings possible from gold prospecting experts around the country. Examples of some of the gold prospecting expert's comments: "The author amassed a cornucopia of gold prospecting information that can serve as a bible for first time weekend enthusiasts as well as many long time recreational gold prospectors.", "It is written in terms that is easy for anyone to understand and contains an enormous amount of information that should be useful to anyone looking to better their knowledge of prospecting or metal detecting.", "FINALLY, I am really happy to see that someone has put so much information under one cover. I have, probably, most of the information in the book already but it is scattered through many studies, research papers, government documents, and other books (the accuracy of which sometimes is questionable). That is why I can foresee this book becoming THE GOLD PROSPECTORS BIBLE.", "Finally someone has written a genuinely useful book that tells readers so much more than the usual gold prospecting books do. Kudos to Tim Rapp for raising the bar in the genre and compiling a great resource that people can read and re-read again and again.". Note: At a time when gold prospecting books sometimes are priced at $60 and $70 and contain little more than instructions on panning and sluicing, this book is a veritable BIBLE of gold prospecting information and is available from Amazon.com for less than $10 for the Kindle, and less than $15 in a high quality PDF format from the author's website: www.theessentialintroductionfornewgoldprospectors.com/? Do your prospecting friends a favor and let them know about this resource!
I would have to be chased away from there at the point of a gun! why do anything else!? I got the fever from half the way around the globe, just watching!! lol
Gday Snowwie, this vid and all my others are just out in the state forrest and you can come and go as you please. But you do need a miners right which costs about $90 for 10 years..
That's giving you a lot or freedom. Do you pick your choice of location in the Forrest randomly or do you do research before you starting looking with the detector? Like I said before, it's a pity we don't have such area's over here in The Netherlands. I would love to do this as a hobby. I think about the excitement you have each time you nearly got a nugget. Every time it could be a big one. And I mean I real big one, because there have been nuggets found which are least a few kilograms. And what do you have to loose? Nothing. It's a free thrill ride. How often do you go to these state parks to look for gold? Do you always go alone?
I usually just go to the gold fields and try and area. If i dont find a piece within a few hours i move to another spot and try my luck. It really is just using a bit ok knowledge and hoping for the best. I try and go once a week, but lately its been raining and I've hat a lot of work, so I've not been out as much as id like. I always go alone. Sometimes my dad tags along but id prefer to be by myself. All the best. JG
Gday Katta, sorry I usually mention settings...... Sensivity: 14 Auto GB volume: 8 target volume: 9 Threshold: 22 Smoothing: low the rest are factory settings.
+katta172 persistence my friend. You've really gotta put the time in, what you don't see is the countless hours I spend finding nothing at all. Patches like this are a rarity these days, and they only get discovered by slogging it out. Keep at it, if you've still got nothing in a few weeks, get back to me and we'll work something out. Good luck mate. JG
Lachlan Thistlethwaite No you don't but you do need a miners right and you must get permission to detect on private land. I would recommend that you contact a prospecting shop and hire a detector for a week and see how you like the hobby before committing to the best detector that you can afford. Good luck.
It's called alluvial gold and Australia's Golden Triangle has produced millions of tonnes of it over the past 160 years, mate! That's exactly how it was discovered by the old time miners in the Victorian gold rush of the mid to late 1800's.
I think it was staged. An ounce of gold metal detecting in a day? You never know what they're selling anymore. Im surprised they dont talk about his terminally ill son that needs this gold, to buy a kidney to save his life. LOL
Hello Jay. Awesome footage. Love it. You and everybody else love to spend their time with prospecting, are warmly welcome to publish your movies and pictures in our PRO GOLD PROSPECTORS GROUP in Facebook. Cheers facebook.com/progoldprospectors/

Terence Rea This is not acting terence,I have done this for years and I tell you ,it was a blast when I hit 97 nuggets in one week. If you ever get a chance to hire a decent detector and hit victoria do it at least once.
Congratulations! Nice to see your GPZ 7000 successes!
would love to try one out in Malaysia. but im broke
That detector is $8,000 bucks on amazon!

Chesrs MGR, i know the feeling, its taken me a year to find this good patch. Now its all gone and the search continues for the next. GL and HH. JG.
Well done Jay you've cracked a nice spot there. Great videos. Cheers rick
Cheers Rick, yeah I got onto a good little patch. It takes ages to find them, so I was pretty stoked finding this one. All the best mate. JG
Top stuff Jay. What a shame about the detector shaft, nothing worse than broken equipment
Yeah it was a pain. But totally my fault, and Minelab were great to fix it for free. I did take the opportunity to dust off the SDC, got a few little bits, but I was hanging to get back to the patch. Good luck out there. JG.
yeah fair enough.keep em coming.cheers
You little ripper! Bet the adrenalin was running high😜
Certainly was Chris. Nothing beats it! Cheers mate, JG

Great going. Betta get to the GT with the sdc and get some before you find it al haha
Do it mate. If it aint me, some other bastard will beat you to it.!! Although its been a bit wet lately in the GT, makes for less then favourable detaining conditions. All the best, GL and HH. JG.
What a run Jay, hopefully some deeper slugs in the area mate.
Yeah mate, it was a good run that's for sure, a few deeper nuggs in the next vid. Hope you're getting a few. JG.
+Jay Gold
Well done mate, it's a great feeling when you get a great run like that. Is there much iron stone or quartz around.
Yeah it certainly is a good feeling. There was indeed, mostly ironstone with a sprinkling on quartz on the surface. That's what attracted me to the area in the first place.
Awesome mate, keep the videos coming there great.
Nice finds Jay!
I have found the gold never nuggets we do have them in the UK in certain places , looks like you could do with a wash plant and a digger
nice run, successful outing, indeed ~
If I find iron stone in sand stone is that a good area to search?
read, then someone can ask YOU! :)
Good effort Jay.
Cheers Nev, keep an eye out for part 2. All the best. JG.
thats so amazing im going to get me a metal detector this week.lol. great vid i have to subscribe . looking forward to more videos. take care
Great news. Good luck with your new detector. JG
Nice work ol mate, i would call that a ‘dream’ day out with my gold monster. Bet you cant wait for the dse to do a burn off round there so you can go back and get fairdincum.
Cheers pal
Yeah defiantly, i always check the burn schedule. Good luck out there mate. JG
now thats a good session
You continue to impress me good work jay
Thanks Mitchell. I got lucky here. Someone had been on this patch in the past but left a few nice bits. I reckon he did alright though. Some pretty decent holes were dug. All the best. JG
+Jay Gold you work hard mate that's why you find it
Great videos mate , presume you need to obtain a mining rights licence before you can hunt , is the land you hunt on privately owned , or is it owned by mining companies ?
I just prospect in state forrest. All you need is a miners right which is about $80 for 10 years. Cheers. JG

gold, even though it's small it must be money 😉😉😉😊😊
is there a reason why you do not take the dirt around where you find these nuggets and pan it out?
There is no water nearby so id have to cart it around which would very difficult when detecting, plus we cant use machinery to dig so it would get very laborious for potentially little yield. What a patch!!!! Well done. What was the person doing in that area before you got there..?? Certainly left you some goodies.
Yeah its too cold or too wet! Oh well, hope you got a few today.
We don't have those little charmes here in Maryland. Bummer.
My biggest one was about an inch under also, i obviously found heaven around that area too :D
Yeah I've heard of a few situations when huge nuggets have pretty much been on the surface, it makes you wonder how 40 years of gold detecting have missed them. Gives us all hope there are more out there!!! GL and HH. JG.

Yeah mate, there is heaps of gold in Aust, there was a hell of ally more but the old timers took it all!! I just keep the gold. Ill sell it eventually. Cheers.
Nice vid! At 17:20 it looks like some kind of crystal set in the nugget. Is that quartz or something?
Yeah mate, thats quartz. Common in a lot of nuggets in Aust, along with ironstone which youll see in a lot of my gold also. Cheers, JG.
Ah cheers mate. I really like that! Do you ever keep pretty nugs or are they all money in the bank? Be nice to see your keepers if you do.
Well done on a great day out!
Could you suggest some settings?

wow beautiful nugget
cheers
how long does such a metal detector work since its out of energy?
im not sure what you're asking
I think hes trying to ask how long does the battery last on the metal detector...
+Jay Gold the battery goes flat after about 11 hours
SWEEET !
Wowee!
Haha, you watched!! I apologise in advance for all the metal detecting videos youtube will probably recommend for you now. :)
Rippa!!! What model Minelab? Nice day mate...Cheers!
Gday Doc, its a GPZ 7000. Cheers. JG
can you pick them up with magnet? is it possible
Unfortunately not. It would be great if you could.
TOPNOTCH JAY!
Cheers
I would have to be chased away from there at the point of a gun! why do anything else!?
I got the fever from half the way around the globe, just watching!! lol
Cheers Old Nice, i spent a lot of time here. My next video the 18g nugget was at the same location. Good little patch. Cheers, JG

What metal detector do u use
Its called a Minelab GPZ 7000
K thanks
Do you need permission to search for gold at that location, or is just somewhere in the bush?
Gday Snowwie, this vid and all my others are just out in the state forrest and you can come and go as you please. But you do need a miners right which costs about $90 for 10 years..

JG

always had the pin pointer?
Yeah, I've had it for about a year now. Makes life easy when getting close to a big nugget to avoid hitting it.

+Jay Gold we've had absolute zero luck with our gpz your killing it mate
+katta172 persistence my friend. You've really gotta put the time in, what you don't see is the countless hours I spend finding nothing at all. Patches like this are a rarity these days, and they only get discovered by slogging it out. Keep at it, if you've still got nothing in a few weeks, get back to me and we'll work something out. Good luck mate. JG
+Jay Gold hi mate I'll keep trying , fingers crossed
Chat soon , also best RUclips prospector 👍
haha, cheers. Keep in touch and let me know how u go. Persistence is key. JG.
Do you need a claim to use a detector in australia?
Lachlan Thistlethwaite No you don't but you do need a miners right and you must get permission to detect on private land.
I would recommend that you contact a prospecting shop and hire a detector for a week and see how you like the hobby before committing to the best detector that you can afford.
Good luck.
ye, he just finding piece after piece near the surface, makes you think , was it staged, setup ...?
It's called alluvial gold and Australia's Golden Triangle has produced millions of tonnes of it over the past 160 years, mate! That's exactly how it was discovered by the old time miners in the Victorian gold rush of the mid to late 1800's.
I think it was staged. An ounce of gold metal detecting in a day? You never know what they're selling anymore. Im surprised they dont talk about his terminally ill son that needs this gold, to buy a kidney to save his life. LOL
Any gold in south Australia
david kasminin Yes but not much.
Most on private land.
مشاءالله الله يرزقك ويرزقنا
