    My dad was attached to various units in the war there and I had some pictures of him and his unit of p40s and other air craft dotting the various beaches they were on on most of these islands. One in particular showed all the animals in their tents. It amazes me. He as in China working when the war started in the Pacific. One thing. They were a good generation in war but politically doomed under FDR. McArthur said several times to the cabinet towards the end that we need to deal with Russia then and then turn to China. He predicted the problems we would and are having with these communists. I love watching this as I saw my turn in 1970-1974. Thanks for the work and film

    There is a lot of good film archive that doesn't seem to be main stream WW2 footage that they use in most films..
    Also names of islands and towns that haven't been mentioned in most historic documentaries.
    Well done.

    My father spent 1945 on Morotai Island as part of the A.I.F. (Australian Imperial Forces). The base was a joint Australian and American base.

    I can’t believe Iwo Jima received such short schrift in this film but this is primarily an Army film.

      My thoughts exactly. I'm surprised they even mentioned Tarawa, Peleliu, or Okinawa for the same reason they island-hopped over Iwo: Marines did the dirty work and the Army came in later to mop-up. And I thought we were all on the same side. Sheesh!

    Amazing footage. Every thumbs down gets a middle finger up! Fools have no clue of the needless loss of life, nor the source of its violence, which goes back to the first "war in heaven."

    Sounds like Dougie McArthur narrating. Likes to emphasize the last letter of the last word of his sentences. Yearssssss, warrrr, you get the point.

    When was that film produced? "1960" seems late.

      The series was first aired in 1951 (Korean War era) and continued well into the late 60's. I'm guessing this episode dates from '56 or '57. I remember watching it on CBS when I was very young.

    General MacArthur handled the surrender and occupation of Japan brilliantly. It was a classic case of the right man, the right time, the right place doing the right thing; with the stroke of a pen, he achieved one of the greatest victories while saving the lives & health of millions of American soldiers--my father among them--and millions (tens of millions) of common Japanese citizens.

      Once again I say those elder politician/business/military higher ups sure knew how to have a PULL OUT/STRAGHTEGY in place way back because most of them were brought up in big business/construction/factory output production/logistics planners/military forcast planners looking ahead to WIN THE DAMN THING and agreeing on most issues to get the WAR OVER WITH! The nation was a majority in the same THINKING/ DIRECTION and BELIEFES in surviving as a WHOLE ONE NATION--hate to bring it up but today the all mighty news outlets/conspiracy forgers (as soon as WE come under a threat/attack they throw in the ole OH WE WONDER WHAT WE DID TO MAKE THEM MADE AT US ROUTINE) there for we now seem to have a not to smart to have:DIVIDED NATION/THINKERS/QUICK TO BLAME the defenders keeping US safe*the 1940s tru 1963 is long long gone from the majority of our mindset****

      Yes he did but in Korea Truman fired him because he wanted to use nukes against the Chinese forces operating in the Korean Peninsula. He was right back then maybe we wouldn’t have problems with china if McArthur had used them we would have saved many lives

    I don't understand how american command can't destroy the bunkers, caves, tunnels inside de islands 15 inch guns from ships and lower calibers, 500 pounds and 1000 pounds bombs or bigger or napal o white phospours, that's they don't know where the japanese are, some is missing, like in Tarawa send soldiers when the tie is low, that's shame for the comand!!! Why no use Tallly bombs, Disney bomb, or Grand Slam in Okinawa, or something powerful for sweep fortifications????

    Clearing the island corregidor;
    An M4 Sherman tank fired a shell into a sealed tunnel suspected of harboring Japanese soldiers but which instead contained tons of stored ammunition. The subsequent explosion threw the 30 short tons (27 t) tank several dozen feet, killing its crew and 48 US soldiers nearby, and wounded more than 100 others in the immediate area.
    Can you say "Nasty Surprise?"
