the process is very good so it makes me easy to understand. greetings of success, sir. 👌 from me a sofa craftsman from Indonesia living in the city of Manado👐
Do the work on site for a start. Also you could do all the flutes separately so you can make adjustments easily. Wouldn't do a 90° on one board! Keep your eyes peeled for www.thefaceliftacademy.com
What kind of wood did you use & how thick. How thick is the dacron you use. I know you said you had an allowance for the width of the flutes, but do you cut the height the same size as the base board? I want to thank you for your video. I have a customer that asked if I could do something like this. In my head it made sence to use the technique you have demonstrated here, then I founf your video and it gave me confidence to approch this job. It's going to be a floating backrest above some cushions (that I will also be making, making cushions is one of my favorite things to do) 2 walls meeting 1 about 100" and the other about 90". I know it will be a challenge but I think I got it all worked out in my head.
Hi Patti! One channel would have to go all the way to the wall and the other would butt up to it. So you’d have to make allowances I.e make the one against the wall slightly longer and the one that butts up to it would be slightly shorter. So if the total length of the channeled back rest was 100inches by 100inches. You’d make one back 100 and the other 98 (if the foam and wood measured 2inches thick) If that makes sense 🤣
This is one way to do it. There are 2 other ways to do channels, too. Just split the base board with 1/ 2-inch space and pull the fabric through it, and the other way is to stitch the fabric in channels and stapler it between each foam channel.
I have a 4" memory foam mattress topper that we don't use any more, could we use this with this technique for making a headboard do you think? What thickness MDF did you use? is it 18mm
Hey!! I would give about 3mm (total) of space on each flute to allow for the padding and fabric so I would do 14.7x60 if you want 8 flutes total. Hope that makes sense 😊👍🏻
Hi Julie. Sorry for the delay in responding. I use either industrial strength Velcro or a baton and industrial strength Velcro so you can take it on and off for easy cleaning.
Great tutorial. Overall with the mdf boards and the foam/material, how thick do you think this was from the wall? We have limited space (depth), do you think it could work with 1” foam?
Hi Samuel! You could use thinner MDF for the back board and the flute boards to save you some room and you could absolutely use 1inch foam on the flutes. They wouldn’t look quite as round and luxurious but it would still work 😊👍🏻
I came to see how to reupholster over pre-made purchased fluted headboards WITHOUT taking them apart into separate pieces, which I cannot do. I guess the only way is to cut the fabric and leave a split close to the edge but I'm afraid it will weaken and rip there.
Hi Emma, thank you so much! You could screw them together. I did this after, however I just find pinning is quicker just to hold it in place. This fabric is by Sunbury Design and it’s called ‘Nappa’ - it’s an aqua-clean fabric too 😊👍🏻
You can save a bit more time and get a clean look by drawing a line on the back of the wood to staple to...then every one has exactly the same look and tension and no dips or cat pulls.
I was not prepared for how quirky the voice behind this video was going to be. I was expecting a formal training video, not weird noises and finger guns. I'm really pleasantly surprised.
Weird noises and finger guns 🤣 unfortunately that’s me!! But I’m glad you were pleasantly surprised and not put off and it’s not everyone’s cup of tea - but thank you for watching, I hope you found it helpful 😊
Hi Guys!! Come and follow me over on Instagram too 🙂👍 instagram.com/faceliftinteriors
This is my favorite tutorial yet
Loved that clean corner
😊🙏🏻
This is very satisfying to watch.
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching 😊
Brilliant! Fluted sections can be replaced individually if there is ever a need. Love the look! Thanks!
I just love that teeing off sound effect! great video Neil.
Haha thank you!! 😊👍🏻
I've learned something new from each of your videos. Very good teacher.
Thank you
Hi Naureen! That means a lot to hear, thank you so much! I’m glad you find my videos helpful 😊

Hi there! Thank you for watching my videos, I’m glad you find them helpful. Good luck to you being a sofa craftsman and best wishes to Indonesia 🤝
Hi love this video. How would you go about doing this with two 90 degree corners? Any tips. Thank you

Very informative and looks good mate, thanks very much.
Cheers Danny! Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Great video, thank you
Thank you 😊👍🏻
Очень красиво, вы молодец👍
Спасибо, очень любезно
Brilliant idea and easy enough for my non DIY brain 😆 great to see a video from a fellow Brit too 🇬🇧
So sorry for the delayed response! Go for it, would love to see how you get on!! 😊👍🏻
excellent job
Thank you man 😊🙏🏻
Love this tutorial. Thanks. Any tips on seat pad thickness if you are making a solid base rather than on top of a wall?
Could you please do a video on how you would also upholster the rear of the panel, so that both sides are covered in fabric with clean edging
I'm actually doing these today
Let me know how you get on. Send me some pictures on Instagram! 👍⛏️📎✂️📐🧵
Great job
Thank you! 😊🙏🏻
Amazing job! Can you send a link to the foam? Thanks!
Hi there! I don’t have a link to the foam unfortunately but I get my upholstery foam from GB Foam. I hope that helps 😊👍🏻
Great videos keep it going well done
Thanks a lot David, means a lot 😊🙏🏻
@@faceliftinteriors trying to make my own banquet seating for a bar I'm opening so your videos will be watch many times
can you also do tutorial for round channel tufted head board thank you
Brilliant, thank you!
Thanks for watching 😊👍🏻
Really great video thanks! I am wondering if you happen to have a video showing how you attached it to the wall. I would really appreciate that.
Thank you for watching! I used industrial strength Velcro for this one. It doesn’t move at all but can be removed if required 😊👍🏻

That’s really kind, thank you Angelica! Thank you for watching 😊👍🏻
How did you secure the board onto the wall or how would you secure this to a wooden frame
Can you do a video on a wing back chair inside wing ? I’ve torn down mine 4 times !
Hi Donna! Of course, as soon as I get one in I’ll be sure to make a video for you 😊👍🏻
@@faceliftinteriors thank you so much!
No problem 😊
when making individual channels for mounting on a wall in a commercial space, how do you handle the corner where two walls meet?
Hi Patti! One channel would have to go all the way to the wall and the other would butt up to it. So you’d have to make allowances I.e make the one against the wall slightly longer and the one that butts up to it would be slightly shorter. Hi Tony, I find this way is cleaner! Sewing them in never turns out great imo. Hope you are keeping well! ✂️📐📎🧵⛏️👍
Hi Neil, what board are you using? And How thick is it please? Thank you
Hi Marie! Thanks for watching - I used 11mm MDF boards and pinned and screwed then on to another 11mm MDF board. Hope this helps 😊👍🏻
Neil why would you use dacron and not 1/2 foam? Is it just preference?
Dacron allows the fabric to move more freely and the foam causes friction! 📐🧵⛏️✂️
Great video! What type of foam did you use? How thick it is? It looks really nice 👍
Hi there! Thanks a lot 😊👍🏻 I used 2inch white foam 👍🏻

hi, I have a question. If I have a 120 × 60 cm board, can I make eight flutes of 15×60? or do I have to leave some space between the flutes?
Hey!! I would give about 3mm (total) of space on each flute to allow for the padding and fabric so I would do 14.7x60 if you want 8 flutes total. Hope that makes sense 😊👍🏻
@@faceliftinteriors yess makes sense thank you 😊
How was the board attached to the wall?
Hi Julie. Sorry for the delay in responding. I use either industrial strength Velcro or a baton and industrial strength Velcro so you can take it on and off for easy cleaning.
how thick were those pieces of wood?
Hi there! 12mm wood 😊👍🏻
Thanks. A great video and my go to when I start my own.
@@mrlimey That's really great to hear! Thank you so much for watching and I'm glad you found it helpful.
Loved the video :) Great technique
What type of foam is better to be used for this project? Medium density (23-130) or High density (36-130)?
Could I somehow do this with cardboard to add as a headboard cover rather than a replacement
Do you mean making it out of cardboard rather than wood?
@@faceliftinteriors yeah!
Hi mate, I'm doing a pub , so no matter what the length just take 3mm off ?
Hi mate! Yea mate, that’s what I would do if it’s one panel 👍🏻 take the 3mm per flute.
