    I'm also a latecomer to the CRJ but l found your series of 3 videos extremely helpful and learnt so many aspects of the airplane as l found it very difficult to fly at first after being looked after by the Airbus A320 and B737! So much more hands on and more rewarding once you have mastered it. Thanks again.

    Watching these again now that I've got enough hours in the CRJ to know what consistently goes wrong with my approaches, it's a revelation, I'm getting *SO* much more out of these than I did the first time round ! You look to have the same problem I did (and lots of other people) with the default eyepoint being too low. Under settings > general > camera there are sliders for height, left-right, and zoom, this sets the centre point for the cameras and it MUST be set to 50 / 50 / 50, if I had to guess I'd say your height is 26. The sim seems to calculate camera positions as offsets from the central point which it assumes is 50/50/50 even if it's not rather than as absolute positions, so if your sliders are at anything else the eyepoints get offset from the wrong place. If you put your height up to 50 (then never touch any of them again) it will fix virtually every plane you get into and as a bonus the command that got added to save the VFR viewpoint (ie change the default view) will work properly as that is also saved as an offset from 50/50/50.

    • @BritishAvgeek
      @BritishAvgeek  2 года назад

      Glad to hear you're finding them useful still! The viewpoint is a nice point I forgot about actually, I tend to just have a preset view for Alt+1 for the Cockpit View I want as a custom view but I'll definitely change the height value now!

    7:13 Easier way to fix a discontinuity is to press the soft key and bring the duplicate waypoint down to the scratchpad, and then simply press the soft key to overwrite the one above. Much faster than clearing each field individually. So for this case you would bring the second REDFA down to the pad, then click on the first one to overwrite it.
    Also to avoid any guess work on FPM while descending, just go to the DIR INTC page on the box. It will give you the required FPM to reach the correct altitude of each waypoint.

    I love to be able to follow your Tutorials, but the CRJ causing my sim to crash and then I can't reload it again unless I remove the CRJ folder completely, it seems I am not the only one and it could be just those that updated from the Marketplace rather than from Aerosoft, but Aerosoft say it's too few customers for them to worry about it so £42 down the drain.
    Great stuff though and well worth the watch.

    • @BritishAvgeek
      @BritishAvgeek  3 года назад

      I always advise against building from the marketplace because going direct supports the developer more. I'm sure if there's an issue they'll fix it soon but for those with the Aerosoft.com version it's very good and any issues you just log back in and download a fresh install package.

    • @BritishAvgeek

      So, the CRJ can't fly fill RNAV approaches, it can fly LNAV only RNAV approaches in real life according to the real crj captain who helped me learn the jet. Effectively VNAV is mostly advisory so you need to decide the vertical speed etc yourself and for RNAV approaches, you can only do the ones that are LNAV only

    Man, these videos are so clutch,. You've got a fan. I've dug deeply into the channel with at least 6 hours of watched content so far. Great job!
    Anyway. . i do have a question though regarding the instrument approach here. At 15:15 you enter the ADF for the ROT NDB. I see this was found on your ILS chart for Rotterdam. However, at the time of me trying to learn this, the procedures have been completely updated and the approach is now REDFA 3R. And the ROT NDB is not on this new chart. Any ideas where else i might find this for future reference when i have to do this on my own.

      @BritishAvgeek  3 года назад +1

      Hi! Glad to hear you're enjoying the content! Of course they'd be updated again 🤣 the little NDB Symbol where the frequency is (or just 3-4 numbers) usually shows an NDB but if it's been removed since with a procedural update then I wouldn't worry about tuning it.
      You could also just leave the aircraft to auto-tune the frequencies as I've shown on recent live streams providing it's an ILS - at 15nm or so from the airport it'll have the ILS autotuned - you could then use the DME Hold function on the centre console (on the radio stack, the little H) to prevent it autotuning to something else and to lock into that frequency if that makes sense?

    • @charleshemphill7602
      @charleshemphill7602 3 года назад +1

      @@BritishAvgeek the auto tune function seems to work well enough so far. What your saying makes since on a minute scale. I’m still learning. Lol. I feel like I had everything going swimmingly. Hey British Avgeek. Done a Vatsim flight in the CRJ for the first time in awhile (sad british avgeek noises). For my arrival, I usually enter in my simbrief arrival just so I have something in. Was flying into Louisville, and I always expect to change it. However, changing the STAR mid flight seems to overlap other STARs? Anyways, my FMC was completely screwed and I asked the kind ATC guy for a hold and he told me to hold at DLAMP I think. Well low and behold I enter the hold properly and it doesn't even direct to the hold. I tried going direct to it, but it didn't want to. At that point I just asked for vectors and just slapped the ILS frequency in the rad page.
    In a nutshell, is there a way to change the STAR without slaughtering your FMC like me? This isn't the first time this has happened either and I think the first time was in France at Charles de Gaulle and man those guys had croissants in their mouth the entire time I couldn't understand them 😂😂

      The centre line is what you want - if the glideslope diamond goes up above the centre guidance line, you need to reduce rate of descent as the glideslope is moving away above you and you're below profile.... And if the diamond goes down below the central horizontal guidance line you're above the profile so need to increase rate of descent.
      Also note - importantly that on final approach, pitch for speed... Throttle for rate of descent - seems odd but it'll make sense when you do it

      @@BritishAvgeek Nice! Ye I can pretty much manage every aspect of the landing without problems but I'm having a real hard time keeping the diamond on the centre line in the CRJ700. Just need more practice then! Thanks for the information.

      @@jjkhyl5776 well, try not to chase it too much - make a control input to get back on profile and let the aircraft settle. If you're slightly under for example, maintain the same pitch but apply some throttle - basic principles of throttle for rate of descent and pitch for speed helps ✈️

      @@BritishAvgeek I don’t think the pilots can see the wings from the cockpit actually. I need to check this next time I fly.

    Yeah, what a MAJOR pain in the ass this aircraft is. I made it as far as the top of decent, then it just started going wacky. I was hoping to be able to master this thing, but the aircraft, the FMC and the interface of the cockpit by Bombardier is a mess of a confusing disaster. And Aerosoft did a great job replicating this. I really hate this thing and if I did not enjoy small airliners so much, I would just delete it, but there isn't any other one I've found yet. Maybe an ERJ is easier and more logical? Idk. I did like the FSX simple CRJ a lot better.

    Make sure you're at or below 250 KIAS at 10,000'. The video shows about 275 knots passing 10,000' which is a big no-no. Also, in the modern ATC system there's no reason to not operate your transponder on ALT at all times.

    • @BritishAvgeek
      @BritishAvgeek  3 года назад +2

      It does indeed yes but ultimately I'm recording, planning, thinking about what I'm going to say etc all whilst flying and managing the aircraft so these little mishaps happen - if you watch my other tutorials and streams you'll know I leave them in as a learning point rather than edit it out and pretend I'm perfect 👍
      That aside, I hope you enjoyed the rest of the tutorial

      I think with everything you need to do (especially with no autothrottle) it might be a little difficult unless you have hardware like the Turtle Beach VelocityOne Flight kit which also works on Xbox
